Begged Me For Rejection, He Regretted

“Orion, you really got the moon goddess’s blessing for you and Hannah? For real?!”

The noisy young wolves in the club’s private box all pause at the daring question, their eyes fixed on the starts of the day. Orion is grinning brightly, and Hannah with a shy smile.

“O, M, G! I thought you would never ask!”

“I knew it!”

“Finally! The Alpha heir and the pack’s princess! You two are so made for each other!!!”

Someone makes a loud whistle, and then the whole room boiled at the love birds’ tacit confirmation. A door away outside the room on the hallway, Lilith freezes by the door at what she just heard.

Orion...got the blessing?...with another girl?

Wolves can feel their mate bonds, but they can be wrong especially when the bond is not strong enough. So when young wolves find their mate, they need to go to the pack witch for  a check to see if their souls match. If they do, the pack witch would grant them “the moon goddess’s blessing”.

The kids call this spell “match making” for a joke, but it’s mandatory by the pack law because the more two souls match, the stronger their offsprings would be. It’s for the pack’s future.

Being the Alpha’s son, Orion is not allowed to ask for the blessing without a complicated process, so Lilith has waited and waited. Guess it’s not that complicated after tall.

Realizing Orion lied, wronged tears brimmed Lilith’s eyes. Orion delayed it with her, only because he wanted it with another girl.

Standing by the door, Lilith no longer knows how to enter.

“Wait, what about your little tail that lives with you?” Clark nudges Orion on the shoulder. Orion’s grin fades at his words, but Clark doesn’t seem to care.

“Oh, yeah! What was her name? Lily?” Hannah’s best friend Freya joins in, “Didn’t that bitch join the pack in the hope that you would claim her?”

The room falls into silence yet again, but this time with a heavy tone. Some look at Freya with surprise at her nasty words, some look at Orion for his attitude. Orion leans back into the sofa with a sullen face, staring at Freya coldly.

For a moment, Freya almost could not maintain the smile on her face, but then Hannah speaks with a chastising tone: “Freya, her name is Lilith,” Hannah turns and hugs Orion’s arm gently, continuing, “an orphan the Lady took in. Being rude to her guest is a disrespect to the Lady.”

“The Lady” is the title of Orion’s mother.

Letting out a long breath, Orion returns a spoiling smile to Hannah. “She is just mom’s charity work, and I see her merely as a little sister...” After a long pause, Orion continues, “It’s actually gross, thinking that she is lusting after me.”

His words stuns Lilith dizzy. Her ears burn up, Lilith felt a sting of humiliation before the sorrow of betrayal kicks in. If he stopped wanting her, why couldn’t he just tell her straight? Why did he have to tell her to wait and wait longer, only to secretly get the blessing with another girl? Did he think she would cling on, or make it ugly for him and his new love?

Why did he have to make her find out like this? This...Ugly and dirty.

Hannah looks up at Orion with a satisfied smile, rubbing her ear on his chest. Orion lets out a indulging laugh, and the room snaps back into the heated excitement as if the little cold moment didn’t exist.

Lilith backs away from the door, realizing this was all a trap.

She was invited to the party, and the door wasn’t closed tight when she arrived. If anyone really looked, they would have seen her. But instead of asking where she was, they asked Orion to cut her heart out.

Whoever invited her wanted her to witness Orion’s love manifesto.

They wanted her to see the ugly truth and to back off from the bond the moon goddess herself blessed. And they succeeded. The laughter in the room tore the image of the boy she loved for years into a twisted mess, and all she could hear besides a continuing buzzing in her ears are his cold words--

Gross. Little sister...lusting after him.

But that’s not true. She is his mate. He said so himself. He said when he became the Alpha, she would be the woman by his side.

Is this what he meant? By his side as his sister?

“What happened to our little bunny?”

Only by the time Lilith was taken into a warm hug, did she realize that her legs dragged herself home when her mind was wondering. The Lady calls her that only when she cries. No need for a mirror to know that her eyes are red and swollen right now.

“Mama Beth...!” Lilith told herself to not cry, but her tears just burst out when the Lady hugged her.

“You know you shouldn’t call me that, darling,” The Lady taps Lilith’s nose with a resigned smile, and Lilith’s body stiffens.

She forgot.

Her parents abandoned her in the woods and the Lady took her home when she was a pup. She wanted the Lady to be her mother, but this was the one thing the Lady never agreed to. “Orion and you are meant to be, I know. I would be your mother when you two are married, just not now.”

Lilith was raised to be Orion’s mate.

She thought that was what Orion wanted, too, at least up till three years ago, where everything went wrong.
