Chapter 1: The Cousin

Dr. Zen's POV

Seriously this kid never changes, does he? I thought to myself while looking at Midnight's disappearing figure while heading to his uncle's office."Hey Midnight, wait for me." I called out to him, but he just ignored me. This kid is indeed a handful, but then again, he's talented, and he's my boss's niece. I can't do anything about it.

"Midnight, are you just going to ignore me? I'm the one who escorted you into this building. It's rude not to talk, you know?" Midnight stopped walking and looked at me with a deadly glare. Ugh, this kid is utterly terrifying. If I didn't work for his uncle, he would have killed me already. "What do you want from me?" He asked me with a cold gaze and in a very sharp tone. I sighed and shook my head in a disagreement.

"Calm down, okay? I know you hate being around people, but would it kill you to control your temper? Remember, you're the boss's niece. He wants to talk to you about something important, okay? No need for those glares and cold sassy attitude," I said to him calmly, hoping he would listen to me. I don't want to fight him. Kid or Not Midnight is Midnight. If he's pissed, he won't show any mercy to anyone—even family.

"You don't have to tell me what to do, Dr. Zen. I know who I am better than you nor anyone. You're not in the position to be doing what you please, so learn your place." He said to me with no emotions. I felt chills as I looked into his eyes."Do you hate me that much, Midnight? Ever since you got here, you kept on glaring at me and giving me the cold shoulder," I said to him curiously.

He looked at me in silence, then opened his mouth to speak, "I don't hate you, Dr. Zen. I just simply hate being around people. Especially those people who work with my uncle and himself". I sighed again, "Alright, I get it. I won't pester you, but please let me take you to him. I'm his trusted aide after all," I said to him calmly and secretly, hoping for him to agree to what I just said.

"All right. Take me to my uncle," He said, and I walked ahead of him and opened an elevator at the end of the hall. "Go ahead. You need to touch the fingerprint scanner here at the left switch before going inside," I told him, and he nodded.

Midnight pressed the button, and it started to scan him. After a min or two, a green light blinked as an acknowledgment that Midnight had been examined. Before we could enter the elevator, we heard heels tapping at the other end of the hall. We stopped and looked. It was Dr. Zithea. "Zithea? What are you doing here?" I asked her curiously, isn't she supposed to be on a break right now?

"The boss called me and said I have to come with you guys to the office," Dr. Zithea said with a bored tone as if she didn't wanna come to see the boss. She scanned her fingerprint then we all went inside the elevator. I pushed the button for 10 secs, and the secret floor button appeared, and I pushed it. "Hmph, never knew you got closer with uncle already, Thea," Midnight stated coldly while his eyes were full of boredom.

"Now, now that's not how you greet your cousin Night," Dr. Zithea stated with a mischievous grin and provoking Midnight. "You annoying brat, stop talking. You still owe me something," Midnight said with a glare. "Yea, yea, I'll replace your console. Sheesh, you're rich; you don't need me to be doing that," Dr. Zithea said, then rolled her eyes as a sign of annoyance.

"Hmph, You better do, or else I will never talk to you again," Midnight said to her. "Whatever you say, Night," Dr. Zithea said, obviously bored. That's right. These two are cousins. Dr. Zithea Hidalgo is one of the youngest doctors who graduated from Harvard University. She possesses many skills and talents, just like her cousin Midnight, but I think everyone who knows their family knows Midnight is a particular case.

Because, unlike her, Midnight is superior to all compared to others. Which makes him an irreplaceable prodigy and unmatched in any field in the world. Others like him, but he doesn't trust them because he knows no matter what era humans live in, there will always be a struggle for power in a family like theirs. Though I'm pretty sure Midnight can handle us all alone.

After a few minutes, we finally arrived outside their uncle's office. I gently knocked on the door and called him out, "Sir? It's Zen. I'm with your nieces right now. May we come in?". The door opened, and the person who came into our view wasn't the boss but instead his Secretary, Vera Williams. She smiled at us, then bowed at the sight of Midnight and Zithea. Well, they're pretty much like the heirs.

"Welcome back, Midnight, and it's been a while. You too, Zithea, you're always here in the headquarters, yet for some reason, I don't see you around," Vera said to them. "Humph, I'm not interested in being here," Midnight said coldly while Zithea was laughing silently. "I'm busy, Vera. Now leave Midnight alone. You know how much annoyed he already is," Dr. Zithea said to her. Vera shook her head, let us all in, and made them sit on the sofa while I went to my chair.

"Well, then where is Uncle? He called me back here, yet he has the nerve not to show up," Midnight said to Vera. "He's in a meeting right now. He'll be out in a few minutes, so why don't we eat some snacks?" Vera said to him with a smile. "I don't want to, and I want to see him. I did not come here to waste my time, Vera," Midnight said to her with a cold tone.

Before Vera can respond, the boss's study room opens, and he walks out. "You never change, do you, Midnight? It's been a while, my dear niece," He said amusingly. Midnight's aura changed. It became much colder

"It's been a while Keir Leggièri"
