Chapter 2

NOLAN

“Wait for a second, who are you?” I asked her. I could not see her face. Geez, why doesn’t she want me to see her face? So selfish!

She didn’t pay attention to my question. Instead, she answered me with another question.

“Are you willing to find her? Even if it will put your life at risk?” She asked me. I was speechless for a moment at what she just said. Hmm, if it’s worth the risk, then why not? I opened my mouth, but I can’t come up with a word to say. So, I just shrugged at her. I cannot answer her question. Who knows? What I’m looking for might be long gone now.

I suddenly removed that thought from my head, I don’t want to think that it will happen. I’m sure that it will pain me a lot if that occurs. I cleared my mind and looked at her, thinking for an answer to reply. She noticed that my eyes were fixed on her, so she tilted her head at me.

A few minutes of quietness dominated when finally, I broke the silence. “Is it worth the risk? If yes, then why not?” I faced her. I noticed how her aura brighten. It was as if she had gotten what she wanted. Like she succeeded in her plan.

I smiled at her, but it immediately faded when I remembered something. “W-Wait a minute! Who are you?! Why can’t you show your face?! Dammit!” I waited but I received no response. What’s her name?! I don’t even know her! She faced me then she spoke at me with full authority.

“Remember this…” She stopped. She took a breath before she continued. “A life would be taken, he who will fell. Everything was bound to happen, so watch and let the secrets unravel.” Her voice rang on my head. It creeped the hell out of me! Is she out of her mind? What the heck is she saying?!

“Hey! You’re not answering my question! I only want to know who you ar-“ I didn’t finish my sentence when a strong force pulled me away from her. Like it was pulling me. Pulling me to go back.

I tried to move but my body seemed paralyzed! I tried to get out from the strong force that’s pulling me but I couldn’t move! I also shouted but only a faint voice came out! I looked at her, but she just looked at me. Is she behind all of this?!

I am getting tired to fight. Few minutes passed until I found myself giving up. I let the unknown force pull me as I closed my eyes, letting myself give in. Minutes of silence occurred when I heard something.

“Is he awake?” A female voice is what I first heard.

“I don’t know, when did he start sleeping?” A familiar voice answered. It took a minute before I realized that it was Orlene’s voice and she’s talking to another girl.

Before I could open my eyes, I heard the voice of whose Orlene is talking to. “He has been sleeping for a long time. It's a good thing all of our teachers didn't notice that he was sleeping. If they saw him, he’ll be in trouble.” The voice said.

Slowly, I opened my two eyes. The first thing I have seen was two girls facing me. I repeatedly rubbed my eyes so I can see clearly. A few seconds passed when my vision’s finally clear. A brown-haired girl with her deep-brown eyes looked at me, I smiled at her. I looked at the other girl, it’s Credail.

“Oh, he’s awake. Hooray!” My smile faded when Credail sarcastically spoke. I looked at her with my face forming a frown, though I didn’t say anything to her. “What happened to you? You’ve fallen asleep in the middle of Sir Nicholas’ Discussion. You’re lucky that a book was placed in front of your face.” Orlene stated. So, it was a dream huh?

I looked around our classroom, we’re the only one left here? Then, I looked up trying to reminiscence my dream. Based on what I’ve remembered, I saw a lady…or was it a goddess? Then she’s trying to say something. I think it has something to do with mermaids?

When I finally remembered, I burst out of laughter. What the heck? What a weird dream! The two looked at me when I laughed out of the blue. “Orlene, is your friend really ok?” Credail asked. She was like creeped out when I laughed.

“Oh, sorry. I remembered my stupid dream. Who would believe in a ridiculous dream?” I said to them. They looked at me innocently. Oh, right! They didn’t know what was my dream about.

“I had a weird dream. I dreamed about a goddess telling me to save a mermaid. Isn’t that stupid? Then I agreed to find her, lol.” I said while laughing. They looked at me, weirdly. I stopped laughing when I realized that their whole eyes were on me. “Why?” I asked them.

“Nothing, I just wondered…what if it’s true? Like it will be amazing if that happens!” Orlene said then her eyes shone. I looked at her in disbelief.

“Why? It’s just a ‘What if’!” She said aloud. I didn’t have the time to answer when I heard a fake cough. I turned my eyes to Credail, “Anyways, now that you’re awake, I can now leave.” Why did she waited for me to wake up? Does she really have a crush on me? I didn’t have the time to reply to her when she frustratedly walked outside, like something in her plan didn’t go well.

“What happened to her?” I asked Orlene, but she just shrugged her shoulders, she’s also clueless. Why is she frustrated all of the sudden? Maybe she was just at a bad mood? I stopped thinking about it.

Time flew fast, we’re now heading home. “Hey, let’s go.” I said to Orlene who’s now fixing her bag. She always goes with me. We’re neighbors, so it’s just normal that we go home together, I guess.

“Coming!” She yelled. When she was finally finished fixing her bag. She run at my direction.

I waited for her then continued walking when she got close to me. The sound of our footsteps is the only sound that can be heard from us. A moment of silence rang over. Few minutes passed when Orlene finally broke the awkward silence.

“What do you think of the new student?” Orlene asked me. I faced her trying to come up with an answer. “Hmm, she’s ok. I think?” Then I faked a laugh. She looked at me irritated, like she didn’t get the right answer that she wants.

“What?” I asked her, clueless. “What kind of answer is that? I just wanted to know if you like her or not. Then you’re answering me with an ‘ok’?” She said.

I didn’t answer her vocally, I just nodded. She sighed at me, she probably noticed that I’m not in a good condition right now. Something’s bothering me. I feel like something’s not right.

I was spaced out the whole time we were walking. I didn’t even noticed that I was finally at my house. I checked the door, it’s locked. Maybe mom and dad went on a trip? Good thing I have a spare key!

I opened the door of our house and walked inside. I walked straight to my room. I took off my uniform. I went to my bathroom and quickly took a bath. After a good bath, I looked for decent clothes to wear. For about few minutes of picking, I’ve decided to wear a gray sweatpants together with a black fitted shirt.

I checked outside the window, the sun’s already setting. I was stunned for a moment. A setting sun huh? It always never fails to amaze me. I remembered the time where I was only a young boy. The time when life tested us. The time I had to do my responsibility as the oldest brother. Luckily, our dad got a new job so we don’t have to deal with it anymore.

I head towards the dining room to eat. I just ate baked macaroni and cheese to fill my stomach. While eating, I heard a loud bark. It’s probably Tela, our pet. She probably knows that I’m already here. I heard small footsteps coming towards me.

I’m not surprised to see Tela running at my direction. She sat down on the floor, near me. I was about to give her the attention she wants  when I realized something. I forgot to charge my phone! I quickly finished eating and went to my room.

I looked for my phone, I found it on top of my study table. At the time I found it,I I opened it to check any messages,  I saw was a message from dad.

Dad: 9:56 AM

Hey son! We’ll be leaving for 2 days. Take care of the house!

I shook my head in disbelief, he probably thought that I have my phone in me when I was in class. He didn’t know that I forgot it.
