[Tatiana's POV]
Rough voices and the sounds of screams rouse me from my dreamless sleep and make me go on alert. All around me, guards are rushing in and picking out those of us who will be put up for sale this evening.
As I watch them snatch up my cellmates, I try my best to make myself as small as possible so that they won’t see me. But as I cower away, my leg hits a chain, causing it to rattle and drawing one of the guards eyes straight to me.
Fear begins to bubble as many different scenarios begin to play in my head. Most were sold off to vicious alphas and leaders who used them as slaves that satiate their desires, while others became servants.
However, staying here was much worse as after a year due to the flow of incoming and outgoing, anyone who didn’t bring in some income was disposed of by death.
Gasping, I watch in horror as he lets a broad smile spread across his lips before he begins to come for me.
"You," he announces, grabbing me by my hair and pulling. "You’ll fetch a high price with those eyes of yours and this hair."
Letting out a cry, I try to break his hold on me, but I’m a mere child trying to go up against a full-grown man. If I were strong, then maybe I would stand a better chance, but right now I’m left at their mercy.
"Come along," he chuckles, starting to pull me by my hair across the floor, which is covered in piss and feces so that it stains my torn and filthy white gown. The very gown that I was wearing when I was first captured was the only thing I had to wear for the year that I spent in this place waiting for the day I would be sold off just like the others.
Feeling all hope that I could somehow break free and run far away fade, I fix my gaze on the cells that I’m being pulled past, taking in the pity-filled eyes of those who are still awaiting their fate.
Once we reach the room's exit, I’m pulled to my feet and forced inside the bathing chamber, where two women wait for me.
"Oh, isn’t she a pretty one?" One of the women beams. "I’m sure she will fetch a high price."
"Come here, child," the other says, motioning me forward.
"You heard her," the guard snaps, shoving me so that I go crashing to the ground at the women’s feet. "Quit being a disobedient brat."
Ignoring the sting of my scraped palms, I slowly stand and wait as one of the women begins to rip off my gown, so I’m left standing in nothing but my underwear.
"Get in the tub," the other snaps as my underwear are cut off. "You stink."
Whose fault was that? I think miserably, but I keep to myself, as I knew that if I were to be too disobedient, I would be sent to the gallows.
Nodding, I slowly step inside and then sit so that the women can begin scrubbing every inch of my body and then my knotted hair.
"Ugh," one huffs. "It’s going to take some time to unknot all this."
"Just cut it off," the other suggests. "It won’t make much of a difference. With her pretty face, the bidders won’t care that her hair is short."
A gasp escapes me as my hair is pulled and then slashed by a knife.
"That’s much better," the woman cackles as tendrils of my hair drop into the water around me and onto the floor.
Growing quiet, they continue to wash me, and once they finish, I’m yanked out and painfully dried by a rough towel. Then I’m forced into another white gown, but this one is clean so that I can be sent off to be sold.
"Off you go," both women beam as another guard enters to fetch me. "Good luck! Hopefully you manage to get a kind master."
Kind? How could someone possibly be kind if they were buying you?
Keeping this to myself, I allow the guard to lead me down a long hall and then into a large room with cages sitting in the middle of it.
Once inside, I’m led to one of the cages and forced inside while many men and women in masks dressed to the nines watch me with glittering and expectant eyes.
Standing between them and those of us who were to be sold was a man in a top hat and suit.
"Now that our final item has arrived, feel free to come forward and examine the goods before we start."
In an instant, all the men and women surge forward and begin to ogle us as if we were some type of animal on display.
Feeling my stomach churn, I scramble backwards, trying to get far away from them, as a boy who appears to be a few years older than me pops out from the crowd and fixes his bright green eyes on me.
His face is expressionless as he stares me down as if trying to look right into my soul. And when a man and woman come to join him, he points right at me.
"This one," he announces, continuing to watch me. "I want this one."
"Are you sure, Knight?" The man asks, taking me in. "Maybe another more..."
"No, this one," the boy, Knight, repeats. "Buy her for me."
For a moment, the man takes me in as if trying to determine what it is about me that has drawn his son’s interest.
"Alright, alright," he sighs, tearing his gaze away. "I will make sure that she is the one."
“Has your son taken an interest in this girl, Mr. Dilano?” A guard asks.
“That’s correct, isn’t it, son?”
Nodding, Knight’s eyes flash with satisfaction as he gives me one last look before allowing himself to be led away by his parents.
After that, everything was a blur as the auction began, and just as promised, I found myself being bought by Knight’s father, but this wasn’t some damsel being saved by the prince story; instead, I simply ended up leaving one hell to find myself in another, Hunters Moon, where the Dilano’s were known for being ruthless and easily killing those who didn’t benefit them.
[Tatiana’s POV] "Tatiana!" The madam’s shrill voice pierces through the door, snapping my gaze from my reflection and toward the direction it came from. "What the hell do you think you’re doing?" "Sorry!" I gasp, rushing forward and yanking the door open. "I was…" Before I can get any other words out, a hand is connecting with my cheek, snapping my head to the side. "Are you even trying to explain your being late?" The madam snaps, her blue eyes flashing with rage. "How dare you waste my time!" "I’m sorry," I repeat, trying to collect myself despite the pain that is radiating from where I was hit. "It won’t happen again." "Of course it won’t," she smirks, giving me a knowing look. "And what exactly was so important that you decided delivering my morning tea wasn’t important?" "I…" I begin, but then grow quiet as I realize that nothing I say will be good enough for her. "Nothing," I finish lamely. I had worked for the madam long enough to know that everything had to be her way
[Tatiana’s POV]Pain shoots through me as Knight’s words hit me like a ton of bricks. Biting back the sob that wants to escape, I scramble up and quickly pull on my clothes, then head to the door. As I reach, Knight appears behind me, yanking it open and shoving me out into the hall.As I gasp in shock and turn to ask him once again why he was doing this, he slams the door in my face, and I’m left with no answers and a giant hole in my heart.Collecting myself, I turn and begin to move, heading for my room so that I can shower before the madam finds me and smells Knight’s scent on my skin. When I arrive, I rush inside and quickly strip my clothes, then jump under the freezing water and begin to scrub as hard as I can, trying to remove the marks that remain on me, showing that what just happened was real and not a figment of my imagination, but even when my skin is raw and bleeding they remain.Once I’m finished, I stumble out and wrap a towel around my body, then head out into my room
[Tatiana’s POV]The sun is setting by the time the car I’m currently in stops in front of a large mansion with a black fence with barbed wire on it to keep whoever lives there in and those who aren’t welcome out.A shiver races down my spine as the man who had bought me gets out of the car and comes around to my side. As he opens the door, I scurry to the other side and watch with wide eyes as he leans over and stares at me."You don’t have to be afraid," Giovani announces gently. "I am not going to hurt you."Not hurt me? How could he say such a thing and expect me to believe it after he branded me with his mark and bought me? What the hell else did he intend to do?"Please, once you come inside, everything will be explained," he continues when I don’t move. "There’s a lot you don’t know," he sighs. "And a lot to be made up for."Frowning, I feel something in me twitch, just like when this man first approached me. Something in me felt like maybe he could be trusted, but that somethin
[Massimo’s POV]I sit alone in a small booth at the back of De Amore, one of the best strip clubs that exist in the city, and one of the most secured ones at that. Given my background, this was the only place I could truly go to be alone without worrying about my old man sending his men to stalk me.Sighing, I lean back further in my seat while a waitress with hooded eyes and a seductive look on her face pours some more liquor into my cup."Thanks," I murmur, leaning forward and grabbing it. "You can go now."A look of disappointment flashes across her face as I turn my gaze back to the stage in front of me, where women are dancing around poles, rubbing their bodies along them, and then dropping low while all those seated around throw dollars at them.I didn’t know why I continued to come here when I knew that it wouldn’t do any good to get her off my mind, but I hoped that one day something would change.I lift my drink, take a sip, and snap my fingers so the waitress appears again.
[Massimo’s POV]"Um," Tatiana’s voice is soft as she lifts her gaze to meet mine. "I’m sorry, but who are you?"That single question is like a knife to the heart. How could she have possibly forgotten me? Forgotten us?'Because of your mistake,' Zanos murmurs. 'You caused this, and now you're continuing to be punished.''Right,' I huff in response. 'I get it.'"Shall we have a seat?" Giovani suggests. "I promised that I would answer your question, didn’t I?""Right," Tatiana responds. "And you," she continues, fixing her gaze on mine. "You can also tell me who you are and what relationship we have.""Right," I sigh. "I suppose I got ahead of myself. After all, it has been so long since you disappeared from this place."Nodding, Tatiana untangles herself from my arms and takes a few steps back, drawing a clear line between us."Shall we head to the study then?" Giovani suggests, looking from me to Tatiana. We have photo albums in there that may trigger some memories."No one speaks as
[Knight’s POV]I climb out of my car and stare up at the large mansion in front of me while trying to figure out why I am even here. When I first received the invitation for Tatiana’s welcome home banquet, I swore to myself that I wouldn’t come. I had better things to do than attend such a ridiculous event, but as the days passed, the urge to go grew more and more until finally the day arrived, and here I was.Of course, I came alone since I didn’t want my parents to discover just who it was that they allowed me to sell off. I was sure that if they realized it, they would attempt to buy her back for their own purposes.Sighing, I begin to move toward the line that is standing just outside of the place and wait until it is my turn to show my invitation to the bouncer."Name?" he asks when I arrive."Knight Dilano," I respond, passing over my invite. "I was personally invited by your master."I could only assume this was Giovani’s way of thanking me for helping him find Tatiana, but it
[Tatiana’s POV]I wait as Massimo considers whether or not he will agree to allowing me to speak to Knight alone, but when his face softens and he nods, I know he isn’t going to fight it."If you need me, don’t hesitate to call," he murmurs, squeezing my shoulder.A low growl escapes Knight’s lips, taking me by surprise while Massimo seems amused, and I can’t help but wonder what in the world is going through his head."Come on," I sigh, wanting to get whatever it was he wanted to talk about done and over with. "I’ll be right back, Mass.""I’ll be here."Nodding, I begin to move, leading the way to the large patio that is attached to the room that we are in. It provided a nice view of the large pool that sat at the back of Onyx River and privacy from spying eyes.Once I stop walking, I whirl around and fix my gaze on Knight’s while he takes me in with an unreadable expression, and before I can even say a word, he is backing me against a wall and pinning me there."Who the hell is he?"
[Massimo’s POV]I stay with Tatiana until she cries herself to sleep and then decide that it is time to take care of business.Slowly, I get up and make my way across the room. After giving her sleeping figure one last time before heading out.Downstairs, the welcome-back banquet is in full swing even if the guest of honor isn’t present, and I can feel the bastards presence.I had to admit, he had some balls to stick around after reducing Tatiana to that, but no matter, this was even better for me.Straightening my suit, I head down and make my way to where he sits alone, drinking."Enjoying the party?" I ask, clamping a hand on his shoulder."What do you want?" He asks, knocking my hand off. "I don’t think we have any business, do we?""But we do," I counter, trying to keep myself from beating the shit out of him right here and now. "So would you mind having a chat with me?"Growing quiet, I wait as he stares at me as if trying to decide exactly what it is that I want, and when he se
