Chapter Four

Alexander's P.O.V

I missed her. I missed her so bad.

I didn't think I would regret my actions this much but after twelve hours without Daisy, life felt different.

I could barely get some sleep because of the guilt of what I did to her. My wolf was restless as well and I could feel his pain. However, I had the rejected the mate bond and it helped with the pain greatly. Daisy was the sweetest soul and didn't deserve such heartbreak.

Despite what people said about our relationship, she was kind and selfless. She made me a better version of myself and helped me understand life in a better way.

I couldn't bear to see the tears in her eyes as I said those words to her. I was further broken when she realized I betrayed her with her best friend, Martha. But there was nothing I could do and I wished I had done thing's differently.

Although we had dated for three years, our sexual relationship suffered severely. Daisy insisted on waiting for her mate and as much as it angered me, I agreed to it. I thought she would give up on keeping her virginity for her mate but her decision never wavered.

I was the future Alpha of the pack and could have any girl I wanted. Instead, I was stuck in a relationship with Daisy who didn't want to have sex with me.

Several girls threw themselves at me, hoping for a chance with me. And one of them was her best friend.

It was easier to reject Daisy than to admit I was cheating on her for over a year with Martha. It was easier to let her find someone else than to admit that Martha was pregnant for me. I was going to hurt her anyway, it was better she ended up with someone better than me.

I wanted her back. She was my mate and my last chance at true love. But she was nowhere to be found.

None of the guards I sent last night found her at home. Her mother was worried sick and none of her friends had seen her. I was terrified that she had hurt herself because of me. I would never forgive myself.

"Alex," Martha purred, standing by the door. She was the last person I wanted to see right at the moment. "We have guests."

"Send them away. I don't want to see anyone." I chipped. "Any progress on finding Daisy?"

Martha scoffed bitterly. "I can't believe you're so bothered about her. I'm pregnant with your baby and that's all you should be concerned about."

"I don't want to do this with you right now." If she wanted to piss me off, she was doing a great job. "You may leave."

"If you're so gloomy about her, you should know she has been found." She said and I rose to my feet subconsciously. "And she came with company."

The look on her face told me that something was off. "Who are they?"

"The Lycan Prince from the Crescent Pack." A deep frown was etched across her face. "She was probably trying to run away and crossed their borders. The Prince is waiting."

In thirty years, it was the first time that the Lycan Royals were visiting our pack. A visit from the Lycan's was unusually dreaded unless invited. And now, the Prince returned with Daisy. What trouble did she get herself into?

I found myself in the meeting room in five minutes and like Martha said, the Lycan Prince was indeed waiting for me. And right beside him, was Daisy.

She didn't look bad like I expected. I had expected to see her drained of all happiness and joy. I had expected to see her looking tired of existing but instead, she looked....almost happier.

There was something about the smug smile on her face that slightly terrified me. Whatever she was up to, I had to find out and stop it.

"Welcome to our pack. I am Alpha Alexander, the leader of this great pack. I'm quite surprised to receive your visit but you're highly welcomed." I said, bowing to the lycan prince.

"Thank you, Alexander." he replied, rather unblinkingly. "I believe you're as happy as I am about this visit."

I didn't feel that way but I nodded. "Sure." Then I turned to Daisy who hadn't said a word till I showed up. "Where have you been? Your mother has been worried sick about you. Do you think you can simply run off without telling anyone?"

"She's fine." He bit back immediately. "And we're not here for you to scold her. We're here to talk business."

Why was he suddenly so defensive about her? Why wasn't Daisy speaking for herself? How did they meet and why was she here with him? She hadn't even spared me a glance for a minute and I couldn't take it.

Something about her had changed. She looked different, smelt different. It was almost like she smelt like......him. The thought crossed my mind but I quickly dismissed it. There was no way it was possible.

With a fake smile on my face, I turned to the prince. "Sure, Prince Landon. I will be delighted to discuss business with you. It's not often that we're graced by the presence of a Lycan Royal such as yourself. Please tell me all about it." I took a seat right beside Daisy and she shifted uncomfortably.

The prince slipped an envelope toward me. "Open it."

At that moment, I could tell that something was definitely wrong. Whatever it was, it had everything to do with Daisy.

I peeled open the envelope to reveal a letter. My eyes widened with shock as I read it.

"What? Letter of resignation from the council?" I asked no one in particular. "What's going on?"

"You've been given six months to resign from your position as this pack's Alpha. Your beta will lead the pack once you have stepped down and you will not maintain any official position in the pack nor have any recognized status."

My mouth slackened and I was at a loss for words. How dare he? How could he come up to my pack to make such claims? Resign? There was no way in hell I would do that.

"You've got to be joking." I sprang up from my seat. "It takes months of council meetings to come to a decision like this. You couldn't have possibly done that overnight. I am the rightful Alpha of this pack and I would not take this insult from you."

"Careful with your words, Alexander."

"You have no case to evict me from this position. This is merely an act of war." I didn't want to believe that I was going to lose my position as Alpha. I stole a glance at Daisy and a bright smile was plastered across her face. She had to be responsible for everything. What could she have possibly told him and why would he believe a low Omega?

"You're unmated and have formed no true bond with your mate. You're weak and a danger to this pack." He said calmly. "Now, should I continue with the list of your offenses?"

"No no no." I was beginning to get desperate. "I have a mate. I have a mate." Nodding my head and smiling, I moved closer to Daisy who once again created a distance between us.

"She's my mate." I tried to hold her but before I could blink, the prince held my hands in such a way that I thought they would break off. "I will mark and mate her today. If that's what you want, I'll do it!!" I yelled in pain.

"I don't want you to touch her, not even a strand of hair on her head." He tightened his grip on me. "And do not dream of marking her because she's no more yours." He growled and I could feel his anger rising.

"This is all a misunderstanding." I begged. Then I turned to Daisy with pleading eyes. "Tell him. Daisy, tell him that you love me. Tell him you're my mate and we'll fix things like we always do. Tell him you're mine, please!!!""

But Daisy remained unmoving in her position. The only indication that she heard me was her smile and the small scoff which left her lips.

"Listen to me carefully." The prince warned. "She's mine now to cherish and love. You don't deserve her at all and you never will. You have six months to resign or I will leave with your head on my next visit. Stay away from her. Do you understand me??"

I nodded nervously but the words leaving my mouth said otherwise. "Daisy, please don't do this to me. Please, please, you're going to destroy me."

And then she took a step toward me and I thought she had finally decided to forgive me. I believed she was going to smile and tell me everything was going to be alright.

But instead, she said. "I, Daisy Channing, reject you, Alexander Harding, as my mate. I severe the wolf bond today and I wish to have nothing to do with you."

I slumped to the ground as the weight of the rejection hit me.
