Abigail was going through the contract once more.

Now, every word stipulated in the contract was slowly digested. As in the old contract, the first page listed the conditions she needed to follow while living there.

[Party B can invite friends and family if they have permission from the owner of the house, Party A, by contacting the Guard at the front guard post.]

Abigail nodded in agreement, reading the new revision.

"Wow! This is a big revision! Now I can invite Grandma to stay over here."

Abigail smiled happily, but a second later, her smile slowly disappeared when she imagined her grandmother climbing the stairs to get to this place, the fourth floor.

She dismissed the idea and continued reading the next page.

However, not long after, she coughed. Her oatmeal almost spurted out.

Abigail rushes to the fridge to find water. After drinking a glass, she felt her throat relieved.freewebnøvel_com

She returned to her seat and reread the particular revision that made her almost choked.

"What the?! No way! Did I see it wrong!? Did Mr. Peters mistype? Oh my God! Why did Mr. Peters reduce the rent to $200!?"

Confused by the drastic rental rate reduction, she immediately looked for her cell phone. She must call Mr. Peters to ensure he didn’t mistype the unbelievable rate.

Abigail was concerned about interrupting Mr. Peters at work, so she texted him to ask permission to call.

"Good morning, Mr. Peters. Can I call you now? There’s something I need to ask."

As Abigail waited for his reply, she felt nervous and uneasy, worried that something unexpected might happen.

Numerous questions raced through her mind.

’Why did Mr. Peters suddenly lower the rental rate and want to revise the contract? Is he planning to revise the contract again and kick me out of this place shortly?’

Unable to find answers to her questions, she let out a deep sigh, feeling anxious to hear Mr. Peters’ explanation.

After a few minutes of staring at her cell phone with no response, Abigail set aside her worries; she decided to wash the dishes and clean the kitchen.

Just as she finished washing the dishes, a blaring ringtone echoed in the room, surprising her.

Her heart beat faster as she walked to the table to check the caller’s name. The name was "Aunty Rosa" instead of "Mr. Peters."

A happy smile slowly emerged from her lips as Abigail picked up the phone immediately.

"Good morning, Aunty Rosa," Abigail greeted her happily. She had been waiting for this call since the morning, eager to know about her grandmother’s condition.

"Abigail, I’m so sorry, dear. I’m so sorry for calling you back so late," Rosa’s hurried voice was heard on the other end. "I’m quite busy here with my work. I apologize... I can’t talk to you for long now because I have to attend a meeting in a few minutes."

"Ah, it’s okay, Aunty. No worries, I know you must be very busy. I’m so sorry if I make you even more hectic," Abigail says, feeling terrible for bothering her again.

"No. It’s fine, dear. It’s fine. Alright, let me update you about your Grandma. I have good news: her health has improved greatly, and the doctor has already given her a sign that she can move to the Nursing House in two days. She could recover in the nursing house without you spending an additional f*e at this hospital..."

Abigail was relieved to hear that. She heard Aunty Rosa explain some technical things.

"I hope you can visit her soon, dear. Your visit will help encourage your Grandma to recover faster. I know that for sure." Rosa said.

"I’m glad to hear that, Aunty. I appreciate your help. Yes, I plan to visit her this Sunday..."

Abigail’s smile seemed to portray her current mood. Still, not long after, her smile slowly faded when she remembered that she had to pay off the hospital bill before her grandmother was discharged.

How could she pay the bill when she doesn’t have money?

Abigail planned to borrow money from her new boss, Lana. But just trying to talk to her made her feel nauseous and nervous. She worried that Lana would see her differently, and she didn’t want to ruin their good relationship now.

"Aunty Rosa, about the final bill, I will pay it when my grandmother—" Abigail’s sentence hung when Rosa interrupted her.

"Oh? Abigail, what are you talking about? The medical bill had already been paid in full. You don’t need to pay for it anymore, right?" Rosa asked, confused by Abigail’s words.

"What? Is it paid? In full? Who paid for it?" Abigail was puzzled. How could she pay the bill when she now had less than $1000 in her bank account?

"Oh, you don’t know about that?" Rosa also sounded confused.

"Yes, Aunty. I thought I hadn’t settled it yet. As a matter of fact, I haven’t transferred the money yet. Are you sure the bill has already been settled?"

"Yes, dear. I’ve seen the settlement receipt. Earlier, after I visited your grandmother, I stopped by the finance office to check the outstanding bill so far. They said all the bills had been paid in full. No outstanding." Rosa explained.

"But Aunty. I haven’t—" Abigail’s voice trailed off when Ryland’s face suddenly flashed across her mind.

Only two people knew about her Grandma’s condition: her father and Ryland. Since her father could not pay the bill, it must have been Ryland.

Just the thought of that damn man paying the hospital bill was enough to make the blood in Abigail’s veins boil.

Abigail avoided discussing the hospital bill and simply told Aunt Rosa that she would visit next Sunday before saying goodbye.

She shuffled to the bedroom, threw herself onto the bed, and stared at the white ceiling.

Numerous questions swirled in her head, causing a headache.

’Why did he pay Grandma’s medical bill? Was it to lure me back to the company or make me feel indebted to him?’

With each deep breath, a heavy sigh filled the room. It felt like a weight was pressing on her chest, making her breath short and uncomfortable.

Anger surged within her, and she wanted to curse Ryland a hundred times but held it back.

She covered her eyes with her arm, trying to erase his presence from her mind, but he still haunted her. Without her realizing it, tears began to stream down her cheeks.

He must have something else to go and to do, right!?"Abby?" Sawyer’s gentle voice snapped Abigail from her thoughts. "Please get in.
