“What do you think?” Clara asked, pulling me back to the present.

“It sounds… perfect,” I said with a soft smile, not wanting to add to her growing list of disappointments.

As the car passed a row of shops, I slowed down and pulled over. “We should get a cake or something sweet for Lulu.”

Clara glanced at me, brows raised. “Dante, Lulu is a wealthy daughter of President Ferrero and Dr. Sinclair. I’m pretty sure they don’t need any treats.”

I glanced at her, unsure how to take that.

“I just mean,” she continued, seeming to realize how her initial response had sounded. “Sweets aren’t really healthy for kids. Too much sugar, bad for the teeth.”

Ah, so she’s worried about Maximus’s daughter.

“It’s fine. Lulu’s already used to us bringing her little things. What I really want is to see her smile whenever I hand something over. Her mom’s a doctor—Gazelle pretty much monitors everything she eats.”

“You’re right. I suppose my pediatrician training just makes me hyperaware of these thin

Was it fair for Clara to feel insecure, or is she sensing something deeper? If you’re enjoying this book, I’d appreciate your support through gifts or gems. Thank you!

  • Beyond Betrayal: Marry His Brother   CHAPTER 223: Misperception

Lucas A small birthday gathering for Miranda took place at a restaurant inside a resort hotel. When her friends spotted me, their expressions shifted to visible stunned, then delight. “Mr. Westwood, it’s a pleasure to meet you finally.” “We heard you haven’t been back to Ashgrove in years,” another chimed in. “Thanks to Miranda, we finally get to see the famous Lucas Westwood in person.” “Mr. Westwood, you’ve been taking good care of Miranda all these years. So, when’s the wedding?” one woman asked with a knowing smile. I frowned, my composure faltering for a moment at the assumption. Miranda’s cheeks flushed as she quickly interjected, “Don’t pressure Lucas like that. He’s not in any hurry; he’s swamped with work. Besides, it’s just a coincidence that we both returned to Ashgrove at the same time.” Her friends exchanged knowing smiles, like they’d heard this kind of deflection before. “Miranda, you’re being too shy about this,” one teased. “Exactly! Mr. Westwood’s been busy

  • Beyond Betrayal: Marry His Brother   CHAPTER 222: Disappointment

Lucas wouldn’t have accepted Miranda’s birthday invitation if I weren’t coming with him. She’d been forced to extend the invitation to include me, even though I hadn’t given them an answer yet. “I don’t think I should come with you,” I said quietly as we stepped into the villa. I didn’t really know Miranda, but something about her rubbed me the wrong way. I had a feeling things wouldn’t go well if we ended up in the same room, especially since it was her birthday, and she might ask for something unreasonable. I didn’t know any of the friends she mentioned either. What troubled me most, though, was the uncertainty surrounding Lucas’s relationship with Miranda. Just how deep did their connection run? Lucas ran his fingers through his hair. “I’m really sorry I couldn’t say no to Miranda. I owe her father a lot; he saved my life once when I nearly drowned in the lake. After her parents died, I became...” He paused, searching for the right words, “responsible for her.” “You mean you

Isla Lucas and I had a great time at his lake house. I got to know him on a deeper level and had the chance to stop thinking about my mother and other things for a while. He looked so relaxed out there on the boat with Morgan, focused on fishing. I sat quietly at the edge of the lake, just watching him. He kept holding up his catch, grinning as if he were showing off trophies. While I was lost in the moment, my phone buzzed. It was a message from Auditrose. Auditrose: ‘I heard Foster Corporation’s partners are pulling out their contracts one by one.’ I stared at the message, my mind spinning. Everything was unraveling so quickly. I couldn’t help but wonder; did Lucas or his friends have something to do with it? A second message followed. Auditrose: ‘I asked around and heard they offended the Westwoods. I just hope you’re okay. I’m sure your dad will come after you.’ I frowned. Her words tugged at something deep inside me. Lucas had already done so much to protect and help me… W

Meanwhile… On the stock market monitor, Foster Corporation’s share prices continued their relentless decline. Each red number on the screen represented another blow to the family’s company. “I’m sorry, Mr. Foster, but we can’t afford to upset Mr. Westwood. Our company’s security depends on his firm.” “And now you’ve managed to offend Mr. Voltaire as well?” “The decision is final, Mr. Foster. There’s nothing more we can do.” A sharp crash echoed through the office as Mr. Foster hurled his ashtray across the room. They were just a few messages he’d received from clients and business partners whenever a contract was terminated or support was pulled. “Dad, you need to calm down…” Elara said carefully. “This is Isla’s fault! She has to be behind all of this!” “That’s right! Who would’ve thought she’d show her face at that party? Isn’t she supposed to be with Conrad?” Mrs. Foster chimed in. Elara’s face twisted. “Exactly! And the Westwood family, this is partly their fault, t

Isla I didn’t want to cause any trouble for Lucas with his family, so I asked for an excuse to step away. I only meant to clear my head, but I didn’t expect we wouldn’t return to the gathering at all. Now I couldn’t help but wonder what his parents or relatives thought about our sudden disappearance. “Thank you,” I said softly as Lucas drove. I wasn’t used to having someone defend me like that, and I truly appreciated both him and his friends for standing by me. “Are you sure it was okay for us to leave like that? Isn’t your family important to you?” He kept his eyes on the road but answered without hesitation. “I won’t lie, my sister has already asked to speak with me. They want me at the mansion tonight. But this isn’t about whether someone’s family or not. If they crossed a line, I do not have to adjust or pretend nothing happened. What went down tonight… that wasn’t like them at all.” A part of me tensed. I had a feeling Elara and my dad had something to do with it. The though

Lucas Isla’s body trembled. Her own father had just accused her of seducing me. Something was seriously off with my family tonight, and I hated it. Whatever the Fosters said to my mom had blown things way out of proportion, turning what should’ve been a pleasant evening into a total mess. Despite her hurt, Isla clearly didn’t want to cause me further embarrassment in front of my family and the other guests. Her hands clenched into fists at her sides as she fought to maintain her dignity. “P-please, excuse me for a moment,” Isla managed as she lowered her gaze. Without waiting for a reply, she stepped away from the table and walked off. Mom’s frown deepened as she watched Isla leave. “Isla!” I called after her, ready to go after her, but Nora grabbed my arm. “Lucas.” Her voice was tight, urgent. She leaned closer, lowering her voice so only I could hear. “I announced earlier that you were dating Ms. Foster because that’s what I heard from Dr. Castillo and Dr. Sinclair. But
