LOGINEmma’s pov.
At night, I couldn’t sleep. Every time i closed my eyes, i saw him. Hayes. Not the stranger from the hotel room i barely remembered…. But the man standing in front of me at the forest, looking at me like i was both a problem and something he couldn’t walk away from. A mate. A stepbrother. A disaster wrapped in fate. I turned in bed again, gripping the thin blanket around me as if it could stop the storm inside my chest. It didn’t. The mate bond was still there. Every few minutes, a strange pull would ripple through my body— warm, insistent, like something inside me was trying to reach him even without permission. It made me angry, made me restless. I hated it. At some point, I gave up pretending i could sleep. I sat up. The silver fang guest room was too large, too quiet, too expensive for someone like me. Everything in it screamed i don’t belong here. Just like him. Just like all of this. I swung my legs off the bed and stood, pacing slowly. “Get it together, Emma,” I whispered to myself. It’s just biology, just a mistake, it will fade.” But even as i said it, I didn’t believe it. Because nothing about the way his eyes looked at me felt like a mistake. “Just then”, A knock came at the door. I froze instantly. “Emma” It was him again. I closed my eyes for a second. “What do you want?” I asked, not moving. “Open the door”. “No”. “Am not here to fight you”. I laughed under my breath. “That’s what people always say before they ruin your life further.” There was a pause. Then his voice softened slightly. “Just talk to me.” Something about that tone…. quieter than before, less controlled. I walked to the door but didn’t open it fully. I only cracked it enough to see him, he was still in yesterday’s shirt, sleeves rolled slightly, hair messier than before. Like he hadn’t slept either. That detail irritated me more than it should have. “What?” I asked. His gaze met mine instantly. And again— there it was. That pull. It hit me so hard i had to grip the door frame. His eyes flickered briefly, like he felt it too. “I spoke to my father”, he said. That caught my attention. “What about me?” I asked immediately. His eyes darkened as he looked at me. “About the bond”. “And?” “He wants it handled quietly”. I already knew what that meant. My stomach sank. “Rejected”, I whispered. He didn’t answer immediately. The hesitation in his eyes told me everything. “Of course”, I said bitterly, stepping back slightly. I should’ve known. A wolfless omega as a stepdaughter is already embarrassing enough. A bonded one is just a problem. “That’s not what I said”. “You didn’t have to”. His eyes sharpened slightly. “You are twisting everything”, “Am being realistic”. He exhaled slowly, rubbing a hand down his face like he was trying to keep control of something. “I didn’t say I would reject you”. That made me pause. “…. What?” He looked at me directly. “I didn’t agree to it”. For a moment, I didn’t speak. The air between us felt heavier. “That’s…. not how packs works” I said slowly. “I know”. The bond pulsed again— stronger this time. I instinctively grabbed my chest. His gaze dropped to the movements. “You feel it”, he said. I glared at him. “Stop saying that”. He stepped closer to the door without crossing the threshold. “I can’t ignore it”, he said quietly. No matter how much i try. My breath caught slightly. That was the closest thing to honesty i had heard from him. And i didn’t know what to do with it. “You hated me yesterday”, I reminded him. “I didn’t hate you”. “You accused me of seducing you”. “I was wrong”. The admission hung in the air between us. I stared at him. He actually looked…. Irritated with himself. That unsettled me more than his anger ever did. “Why are you really here?” I asked softly. He paused for a second. “I don’t want you treated like property”. My breath caught. I didn’t expect that answer. “I don’t care what my father says”, he added. Or what the elders think. “You are not going to be forced into anything”. I blinked. “That’s not your decision to make”. “I know”. “Then why are you acting like it is?” His jaw clenched. “Because no one else is doing anything”. That shut me up. The silence that followed wasn’t heavy this time. It was different. Unstable. Like something shifting. I looked away first. “I don’t trust you”, i said again. “I know”. “I don’t want this bond”. I know that too. My breath caught. “Then what do you want from me?” “I want you safe”. My gaze wavered at that. I hated that it did. A sudden noise echoed down the hallway behind him, there were multiple footsteps. A loud voice rang out. “Hayes!” Another angrier voice. Jenna. My stomach dropped instantly. Of course she would appear. Because nothing in my life was ever allowed to stay calm for more than five minutes. “Stay inside”. Hayes said softly. And then he turned and walked straight into the noise. Leaving me behind with a pounding heart and a growing sense that whatever was starting between us….. Was about to be tested. Hard.Emma’s povI couldn’t stop thinking about it. That smile. No. Not my smile. His reaction to it. Hayes had looked stunned. Like I’d just grown a second head, he’d forgotten I could even smile at all. The thought made my stomach twist. Years at Lunaris Academy, and most people looked right through me. I was wallpaper. Easier to ignore than to mock. But Hayes noticed. He noticed I called his father “sir.” He noticed I hadn’t touched my food. He noticed the damn smile. I didn’t get it. Didn’t want to get it. The less complicated this was, the better. I sat on the edge of the bed and sighed. The room still didn’t feel like mine. None of it did. Not the velvet chair by the window, not the clothes in the wardrobe with tags I hadn’t cut off yet. I felt like a guest. An unwanted one. A knock pulled me out of it. “Come in.” My mother stepped through the door, and I straightened without thinking. Old habits die hard. She smiled. That alone put me on edge. My
Hayes’ pov.I sat on the edge of my bed and glanced at the clock. It was six a.m in the morning.Perfect.I had managed an entire two hours of sleep, I rubbed a hand down my face and stood up.I needed air.I needed to train.I needed anything that could stop me from thinking about Emma. The mate bond pulsed softly in my chest.I scowled.No.I wasn’t doing this.I was the Alpha prince of Silver Fang. I had spent years preparing for leadership. I had responsibilities. Expectations.I couldn’t afford distractions.Especially not one named Emma Reed.I headed downstairs and froze. The dining room was occupied. My father sat at the table, drinking coffee. And beside him sat Emma. She looked exhausted.Dark circles lingered beneath her eyes. Her shoulders were slightly hunched as though the weight of the world rested on them. She was not eating.Instead she stared at the untouched food on her plate. The bond reacted instantly. A strange ache spread through my chest. I hated it. I hated th
Hayes’ pov.“Hayes!”I stopped walking. I already knew who it was before i turned around. Jenna. She marched down the hallway in a short black dress that probably cost more than what most people in the pack made in months. Her heels clicked sharply against the marble floor, her face twisted in annoyance.A few of her friends followed behind her, all staring at me expectantly.“What are you doing?” She demanded.“what does it look like?” I answered without a smile on my face. “I saw you coming from this wing.” She said with her arms folded.“So?”“This is where your new stepsister’s room is.”I said nothing.Jenna narrowed her eyes.“Oh my goodness,” she said slowly. “You were with her?”I exhaled.I was already exhausted. I haven’t been able to sleep. There have been no peace and now this.Ever since i found out Emma was my mate, my entire world had turned upside down.Out of all the women in the world…It had to be her.The daughter of the woman my father married. The girl i specifi

Emma’s pov.The word sounded in my head like a curse I couldn’t escape.“Mate”, No. no. no. no.I ran out of the building like I was being chased by death itself. My bare feet barely registered the cold marble floors of silver fang mansion as I pushed through corridors filled with golden chandeliers and judgemental stares. The voices behind me blurred into noise, confused gasps, whispered names, someone calling after me- but I didn’t stop, not until I was outside. The cold air hit my face like a slap, snapping something fragile inside me, but I still didn’t slow down, I kept running past guards, past gates, past the manicured gardens of a world I didn’t belong to.My lungs burned all this time, and my heart was worse. Because behind me, inside that mansion, was him.Hayes.The stranger from last night. The man whom I had kissed in drunken desperation, clung to like he was the only thing keeping me alive. The man I had given myself to in a moment I could barely even remember clearly now
Emma's POV I opened my eyes, and to my shock, I realized I wasn’t in my room. The stark white walls of the unfamiliar room confirmed it. At first, I wanted to dismiss it. It didn’t matter whether the walls were white or dark, I felt groggy and hungover from everything I had drunk the night before.I stretched on the bed, only to freeze. A figure blocked me. As I blinked and tried to focus, I realized it was a man on the other side of the bed. My chest tightened, panic and disbelief mixing with the vivid memories of the previous night. The moans, my whimpers, the soul-wrenching desire I had surrendered to, the movements and rhythm that had left me trembling… All of it replayed in my mind. He had given me exactly what I craved but couldn’t ask for, shrouded in shame I had carried for too long.“Who are you?” he snapped, his voice sharp, eyes flashing crimson with anger as he stared at me.“What are you doing in my room?” he added, his words laced with arrogance, tone dripping with cock
Emma's POV I hesitated before pushing the door open, my heart still in my hands, unable to believe the sounds I had heard from inside. At first, they had been muffled, but standing there long enough made them clear and impossible to ignore.Breathless moans. The heavy grunts of a man. My mind scra
Emma's POV“What do you mean that you’re getting remarried tomorrow?” I asked my mother, my voice breaking as disbelief clawed through me.She was getting remarried and tomorrow of all days. And of all the people in the world, it was to the alpha of the SilverFang pack.“You promised me that you’d
Emma's POV I downed the fifth glass of alcohol I had been served at the bar, the bartender pouring according to my request, the number of glasses dictated by the money I had paid. There was still some left in the glass, but I was already too drunk to continue.“Are you alright, young lady?” the ba
