Diane's head throbbed. Badly. The pain felt like there was a drill boring holes into different parts of her head impatiently and making her want to cut her head off.

She blinked a bit, scrunching up her face and groaning, a poor attempt to make the pain go away. She had no idea why she was feeling this intense pain and why everything, including her head, felt heavy.

"Is she waking up?" A male voice asked in the distant background. She couldn't recognise the voice, and she didn't try to either.

"I think so," A female replied this time around.

Diane pushed further, attempting to open her eyes. As she did so, the rays of light from around the room rushed into her eyes forcing her to shut them immediately.

She groaned as she went for a second attempt, this time a bit slower. She was successful as she opened it this time around and was met with a white ceiling and surrounding white walls.

She looked around, studying her surroundings and trying to make out where she was, when a stand of drip appeared at her peripheral view.

Then a head popped up above her, "Mrs Diane? Can you hear me?"

Diane blinked as she made out the face which spoke to her. Then she nodded.

"You were in an accident and you've been unconscious for the past twenty-seven hours." The lady said.

Diane grunted as she made to stand up but the lady stopped her, "You're in no condition to stand up now. Your head must be aching and you must feel heavy and tired."

Diane obeyed, going back to her position.

The lady turned to someone in the background, whom Diane supposed to be the owner of the male voice which had just spoken, "You can proceed to make the payments now. She's only going to continue to recover quickly from now on,"

Then the lady turned back to her, "I'll give you some pain relief, and you should get back to sleep, rest as much as you can. You need it."

Just then, a thought crossed Diane's mind, and she grabbed the lady's hand, "I-I'm pregnant. Right now." Diane told her, her voice almost inaudible.

"I'm sorry," The lady said as her eyes softened, "But you lost it. I'm sorry Ma'am, but you were bleeding profusely when you were brought in and we could not save it."

Diane shut her eyes, and the hotness she felt told her the tears were coming back yet again.

But soon, she was fast asleep.

She woke up the next day, the headache had dulled and she was indeed feeling a bit better than the previous day. She sat up now and took a huge breath, balancing the pillow at her back for a better posture.

The hospital room was big, bigger than the regular ones, which told her that she was in a vip section and led her to be curious about who had saved her and brought her in.

Her memories came flooding back afresh, from everything that had happened days ago to the minute she was rushing out of the hotel. She didn't feel that hurt any longer, instead she felt anger, lots and tons of anger.

Just then the room door opened and an older elegant woman walked in, two escorts following her behind.

"Oh gracious me, you poor innocent thing," The woman exclaimed as she drew her into a hug. Diane sat confused at the gesture and just watched as the woman pulled away from the hug and studied her.

The woman was dressed in an expensive blazer with straight-legged pants, and her heels clocked the tiles noisily with each step she took. She had a slender figure, long honey colored hair and her bright red lipstick made her face features pop out.

"I'm sorry, this happened to you my darling, it's all my fault." The woman apologised.

"Y-you hit me?" Diane asked, trying to satisfy her curiosity.

"Oh no darling, the driver who did already paid compensation. Don't worry it's all sorted out."

Diane shook her head, "I don't understand. Who are you?"

The woman settled beside her, "I'm sorry, I'm only coming now. Your dad and I had searched for you everywhere since you were kidnapped. I'm glad I found you."

"I'm still confused, I'm sorry."

"I'm your mother, Stella Deveraux. We've looked for you all these years. I apologise on behalf of your father for not being able to make it here." The woman replied.

Diane laughed. A bit too loudly that the escorts looked at her crazy and shifted uncomfortably in their feet. Stella didn't return the laughter and instead stared at Diane.

Deveraux? Like the Billion dollar company Deveraux? There was no way that was possible. Diane thought to herself.

"You're our missing Heiress," Stella added.

Diane laughed again. And when Stella's expression remained unamused, Diane paused, "Oh you're serious,"

Stella went ahead to explain the whole situation to Diane, and soon enough, Diane felt like she was in some kind of fairytale where somehow luck had favoured her and she had gotten her own fairy godmother.

She thought about everything Michael had done to her, and the scene of him with Tiffany replayed constantly in her head, each time, more detailed than the last. Diane thought about the baby she lost and the mixed feelings she got from it. She thought about how she had been thrown out by her only remaining family whom she had thought would welcome her in after what had happened.

"You're not lying to me now, are you?" Diane asked Stella, finding it hard to accept what Stella was telling her.

Stella reached out to her with a DNA test evidence. An envelope with the hospital's Logo on the top, "Here, I am not making up stories, my love."

Diane went through it, confirming that she indeed was related to Stella. And as she handed it back, quite speechless, lots of thoughts crossed her mind.

But one thing she was sure about was that she was leaving her old life behind. Because now, she wasn't going to be a Winters any longer, she was going to be a Deveraux.

And the only thing she wanted was power and revenge.

"I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, I didn't see you there," Diane muttered hurriedly with her head down and walking past whomever it was. There was no way she was letting anyone see her in this condition. Not when she had seen the man she was entirely in love with and was pregnant for have sex right in front of her without a care. "Diane?" A male voice called out gently. "It's you, Diane."Diane stopped in her tracks, wiping her tears rapidly and turning to face the man who had just called her. It was Nathan, the man she had known to be Michael's male best friend. She had only seen him on countable occasions which were the few times in college, on their wedding day and the first time she had started working in Michael's company. And up until the moment, she hadn't seen him. She cleared her throat, "Hey Nathan," "Are you okay?" Nathan asked, peering into her face. "You don't really look so good."Diane faked a smile as she met his eyes, shaking her head sideways. "I've just got a lot

Diane stared at the strip mindlessly, raising the kit closer to her eyes to be sure she wasn't having any problem with her vision Mixed emotions flowed through her veins as she dropped the kit on the sink and came back to the bed. She suddenly felt numb because the tears immediately stopped flowing. She couldn't help but wonder how one night of bad sex for her would get her such type of outcome. At a point, she did wonder if she was cursed or if it was mere rotten luck. Or both. And she wondered if this had happened earlier in the marriage, whether her marriage with Michael could have survived. She sighed, climbing into the bed and pulling the duvet over her slender shoulders, putting her honey colored hair into a bun. The thing now was that she was pregnant, so the only remaining thing she had to do was tell the man who was responsible. Michael. The next morning, she had woken up early, after the morning rays had been harshly shooting it's rays at the glass windows, reflecting the

"You can't do this Michael, please," Diane's cracked voice spoke up as her vision blurred from the tears forming. "Should have thought about that before cheating, Diane," Michael replied. "Do you not trust me?" Michael scoffed, "Don't speak to me about trust now,""Michael... Even if we're not married, we're best friends. We've been best friends since college. You should know I wouldn't do this," Diane said, shoving the pictures in his face. "Th...these are fake. You know."Something flickered in Michael's eyes for a moment. Deep down, Michael may have also wanted to believe her, to believe what she was saying. But these weren't just pictures that had been anonymously sent to him through the mail. These were pictures he had secretly been collecting of her since after a month they had been married. He had not wanted to believe she would do such a thing to him either when he had gotten the first evidence in his phone then. But after he had asked a bodyguard to follow her and keep ta

She didn't know how it was possible that the man she was still currently married to showed another woman to the media?"Here," Her personal assistant replied handing her the tablet. There, Diane did indeed see her husband Michael, dressed like a handsome temptation tailored in a black tux.
