Diane's head throbbed. Badly. The pain felt like there was a drill boring holes into different parts of her head impatiently and making her want to cut her head off.

She blinked a bit, scrunching up her face and groaning, a poor attempt to make the pain go away. She had no idea why she was feeling this intense pain and why everything including her head felt heavy.

"Is she waking up?" A male voice asked in the distant background. She couldn't recognize the voice and she didn't try to either.

"I think so," A female replied this time around.

Diane pushed further, attempting to open her eyes. As she did so, the rays of light from around the room rushed into her eyes forcing her to shut them immediately.

She groaned as she went for a second attempt, this time a bit slower. She was successful as she opened it this time around and was met with a white ceiling and surrounding white wall.

She looked around, studying her surroundings and trying to make out where she was when a stand of drip appeared at her peripheral view.

Then a head popped up in front of her, "Mrs Diane? Can you hear me?"

Diane blinked as she made out the face which spoke to her. Then she nodded, slowly.

"You were in an accident and you've been unconscious for the past twenty seven hours." The lady said.

Diane grunted as she made to stand up but the lady stopped her, "You're in no condition to stand up now. Your head must be aching and you must feel heavy and tired."

Diane obeyed, going back to her position.

The lady turned to someone in the background which Diane supposed to be the owner of the male voice which had just spoken, "You can proceed to make the payments now. She is going to continue to recover quickly from now on,"

Then the lady turned back to her, "I'll give you some pain relief, and you should get back to sleep, rest as much as you can. You need it."

Just then a thought crossed Diane's mind and she grabbed the lady's hand, "I-I'm pregnant. Right now." Diane told her, her voice almost inaudible.

"I'm sorry," The lady said as her eyes softened, "But you lost it. I'm sorry Ma'am, but you were bleeding profusely when you were brought in and we could not save it."

Diane shut her eyes, and the hotness she felt told her the tears were coming back yet again.

But soon, she was fast asleep.

She woke up the next day, the headache had dulled and she was indeed feeling a bit better than the previous day. She sat up now and took a huge breath, balancing the pillow at her back for a better posture.

The hospital room was big, bigger than the regular ones which told her that she was in a vip section and lead her to be curious about whom had saved her and brought her in.

Her memories came flooding back afresh, from everything that had happened days ago to the minute she was rushing out of the event venue. The hurt she had previously felt was slowly turning into a mix of anger and resent,

Just then the room door opened and an older elegant woman walked in, two escorts following her behind.

"Oh gracious me, you poor innocent thing," The woman exclaimed as she drew her into a hug. Diane sat confused at the gesture and just watched as the woman pulled away from the hug and studied her.

The woman was dressed in an expensive blazer with straight legged pants and her heels clicked the tiles noisily with each step she took. She had a slender figure, long honey colored hair and her bright red lipstick made her face features pop out.

"I'm sorry, this happened to you my darling, it's all my fault." The woman apologized.

"Y-you hit me?" Diane asked, trying to satisfy her curiosity.

"Oh no darling, the driver who did already paid compensation. Don't worry it's all sorted out."

Diane shook her head, "I don't understand. Who're you?"

The woman settled beside her, her worried face softening, "I'm sorry, I'm only coming now. Your dad and I had searched for you everywhere since you were kidnapped. I'm glad I found you."

Diane's eyebrow furrowed together, "What?"

"I'm your mother, Stella Deveraux. We've looked for you all these years, I apologize on behalf of your father for not being able to make it here." The woman replied.

Diane laughed. A bit too loudly that the escorts looked at her crazy and shifted uncomfortably in their feet. Stella didn't return the laughter and instead stared at Diane.

Diane paused,"Oh you're serious,"

Stella went ahead to explain the whole situation to Diane and soon enough, Diane felt like she was in some kind of fairytale where somehow luck had favored her and she had gotten her own fairy god mother.

She thought about everything Michael had done to her and the scene of him with Tiffany replaying in her head constantly. Her mind went to Nathan suddenly remembering she had used the poor man as a way to get over her husband and had left him on her bed then snuck out.

"You're not lying to me now, are you?" Diane asked Stella.

Stella reached out to her with an envelope.

But god was she starting to be triggered by envelopes now.

"Here, I am not making up stories, my love."

Diane took it reluctantly and went through it, confirming everything Stella had said.

How was she even a Deveraux? How did she end up with her dad then?

But one thing she was sure about was that she was leaving her old life behind. Because now, she wasn't going to be a Winters any longer, she was going to be a Deveraux.

And the only thing she wanted was power and revenge.

She was going to make Michael Belmont suffer however she could.

The party was halfway through already. Guests were seated, the waiters doing a perfect job by making sure everyone had everything they needed at their tables. Diane shared a table with Ryan and there were two empty seats which were supposed to be occupied by John and Stella. But Stella had decided at the last minute that they would sit at different tables because she wanted Diane to have her own moment that night, especially when they announced her as the new Heiress.Diane understood. She fiddled with the white swan-shaped serviette which was in the oyster-shaped silverware on the table, passing time as John gave his speech, appreciating everyone for coming to the event. Stella stood beside him, mostly for moral support and Diane admired the way she stood gracefully, her baby burgundy dinner dress kissing the floor next to her.Diane hadn't seen Michael or Tiffany after their little encounter. But it wasn't like she was looking for them either. Infact she hoped not to see them for th

The same woman whom Michael had picked over here and the very same woman making her wonder why a rival company was at the launch party.Tiffany's face held a scowl as her eyes travelled from Diane's face to her flowing dress and back to meet her eyes like she was examining something distasteful. "How did you sneak into this party?" She paused, placed a dramatic hand over her chest where her silver swam necklace slept and gasped, fake realisation appearing in her eyes, "Were you stalking Mikey?"Diane rolled her eyes, claiming her hand which Tiffany had

The night became beautifully lit just as Diane's car pulled over in front of the company's newly completed second headquarters. And it was going to be soon headed by her in just a few hours.Black luxury cars glided in front of the buildings as well while reporters surrounded the entrance taking pictures of the elegant guests whom had just arrived.Valets in uniforms opened the doors of the cars, escorting them out and onto the red carpets, and parked their cars adequately. Diane saw how the female guests' clothes shimmered in the red carpet lights and the numerous reporters’ camera flashes. While the men dressed in well-tailored tuxedos escorted their dates gently into the red carpets and then the building.“This night would be ‘Mrs Deveraux perfect’ if you had your own date and I watched you from afar proudly.” Ryan said as Diane grabbed her purse, took out a pocket mirror and glanced at her reflection one last time ensuring her whole face was perfect. She was going to be on camera

*2 and a half years later* "A beer wouldn't be so bad now, don't you think Ryan?" Diane asked as she spun lazily in her swivel chair from the window view in her office back to her office table. Her office table was made out of Teak. It was rich, expensive, refined, and alluring, adding a unique blend to her cosy, luxurious office. Her eyes stared at the thirty-eight-year-old man, Ryan who just sighed as he gathered the files on her table, deliberately avoiding her gaze. She proceeded to cock her head inches below to look up at him then tapped her fingers on the table twice to get his attention. "It's late afternoon, Ma'am," Ryan replied clutching the piled-up files to his chest, finally looking at her. His face was anything but pleased. She furrowed her eyebrows together like she did not understand what the problem was. "So?" Ryan sighed once again. He had promised himself he wouldn't fall victim to her alcohol related coaxing talk. She was good at it. Almost too good but

There was a brief moment of silence and then Tiffany chuckled from behind while Michael sighed. "Is this your way of trying to get me back?" Michael asked indifferently, his expression remaining unfazed. "I'm telling the truth." "Like when you cheated?" Michael asked. I wasn't cheating on you," Diane told him, hoping he would somehow feel the sincerity she held. Michael folded his arms and crouched down a bit, making Diane press her back to the wall firmly, the same way he had done to her back at the office. It was almost like he enjoyed feeling dominant in front of her and it tore her apart that despite everything, she still craved Michael desperately. She wanted him, she wanted his hands on her, in her, all over her. She wanted to feel his warm touch, his veiny arms, their sweaty bodies intertwining, his thighs rubbing against her while his moans echoed in her ears. But no. It was like he was aware she was this in love with him. So he deprived her of them all instead.
