Chapter 1

One

"Ma'am... your husband just made the headlines with his first lover."

"MICHAEL BELMONT APPEARS IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA WITH HIS FIRST LOVE".

Diane's head snapped up, "What are you talking about?"

She didn't know how it was possible that the man she was still currently married to showed another woman to the media?

"Here," Her personal assistant replied handing her the tablet.

There, Diane did indeed see her husband Michael, dressed like a handsome temptation tailored in a black tux. The man who had stolen her heart since college and they had become best friends ever since. The same man who had claimed to love her and married her when his first love walked away making her think they were finally end game.

But now, his first love - Tiffany was surprisingly back. And back in his arms.

"Are you sure this is today's news?" Diane asked as her fidgeting hands slid back and forth while she looked through the pictures on the tablet in front of her, her burgundy almond-shaped nails tapping on the tablet's screen involuntarily.

"No. No, it can't be". She thought to herself loudly.

Her coffee sat on her plastic table untouched in front of her, its evaporating steam escaping into the atmosphere, distracting her occasionally from the heartbreaking pictures she stared at and reminding her that she had yet to take a sip.

There was a saddening feeling of confusion and heartache that she felt and she couldn't stop the piercing pain in her chest from spreading more.

"Are we getting this shoot done or what?!" A model snapped from across the room impatiently. As she sat surrounded by cameras and numerous white lights.

Diane's eyes moved to the woman. She had completely forgotten that she was still at work and there was a promotion shoot going on.

Everyone waited for her instructions while some apologised to the ill-tempered woman for wasting her time.

"I'm leaving here right now if this isn't going to be happening bro. Like y'all are so unserious!" The model called out again.

"Then grant us a favour and do just that because I have your replacement right here." A male voice answered stoically.

Diane's eyes darted to Michael who had just come into the shoot, dressed in the same tux he had from the media pictures.

While his presence made her stomach drop, the women around squealed for him as he was a celebrity and quite popular among them. He also never came to promo shoots like this so it left her wondering what was so important that he had to be here.

"Uh-replacement? What...what do you mean by replacement? You can't replace me." The woman said.

"I apologise for bursting your little celebrity bubble, but yes, we very much can. So leave us before we throw you out." Michael replied.

Diane stood up from her seat and hurried over to where Michael was, standing in front of him, "What are you doing? We worked hard to get her here."

He ignored her question, turned away from her to face the door, leaving her in her obviously confused state. Immediately, Tiffany strutted in, dressed in a mini gown and high heels, a clutch purse in her hands.

Diane's expression turned sour at the sight and her stomach churned with discomfort. How could he bring her here? What was he doing? Why was he doing this to her?

Tiffany grinned slyly at Diane as she walked over to where Michael was, grabbing his arms. She was happy to have Michael's attention as always and happy that Michael was putting her before Diane. As always.

"This is Tiffany and she will be taking the spot from today. She's the new model and I want her on all the new products we just launched. She starts tomorrow" Michael commanded, not sparing a glance at Diane or asking for her opinion.

Diane wanted to scream, to shout and drag Tiffany's hair out her head. What type of audacity did she have? Appearing and acting like she was Michael's girlfriend or wife to say.

"Michael, what is going on?" Diane asked looking from Tiffany to Michael, hoping for an explanation.

And although she did want to create a scene, she knew by doing so, the secret of her being married to Michael would get leaked and everyone would know.

Michael gently removed his hands from Tiffany's, rubbing them gently, "Familiarise yourself with the place and meet me out in ten." With that, he turned on his heels and strode out of the room.

Diane hurried after him, out the door and into the hallways, and when she caught up with him, she grabbed his hand, calling his attention.

"Michael, why is Tiffany here, what is she doing here? What are you doing with her? I deserve some explanations don't I?" Her voice cracked.

There was hurt evident in her eyes and her eyes desperately searched his for answers. Any answers at all. "Did I do something wrong?"

Michael took a deep breath brushing her hands off his. Diane could see the anger in his beautiful brown eyes, how it looked at her with disgust as well and how his jaw locked as he stared at her. As if he was trying to control his anger.

"See you at the family house by four." Was all Michael replied to her, then walked away.

She heard the door close and spun around to see

Tiffany. Tiffany's face was all lit up in happiness and her eyes filled up with scorn. "Oh guess who's back, Diane love?"

Diane eyed her, trying to hide the hurt she felt, "What is going on?"

The blonde woman gasped in fake shock, holding a palm over her chest, "Mikey hasn't told you?"

"Told me what?"

"We're back together." She purred, her bright blue eyes filled with excitement. "Oh oh and guess who's gonna be a mum soon? Me." She said, gliding a hand over her stomach.

Diane's breath hitched in her throat as her eyes travelled down to Tiffany's stomach. There was no way she was pregnant with Michael's child.

"You're lying." Diane accused. "Michael would never do that."

"Oh yeah? Sure sure. Whatever helps you sleep at night, sweetie," Tiffany chuckled. "See you at home. Can't keep Mikey waiting yunno!"

With that, Tiffany walked out.

Diane shook with tears as she slapped the wall beside her then fled to her office, forgetting the angry model inside the shoot room and the staff. She sobbed for some time alone as she sat there, and when she seemed to have calmed down a bit, she grabbed her keys and decided to go to the family house just as Michael had told her.

On getting to the house, she walked in and turned to the living room, to be greeted by the whole Belmont family- Michael's father - Caesar, his grandma, his nephew- Ethan and of course, Michael himself and Tiffany.

The expressions on their faces were icy, filled with judgment and disgust.

Michael reached towards her with two envelopes and handed them to her.

"Open them." He said coldly.

She obeyed silently, opening the first one.

There were pictures. Numerous pictures. Way over twenty, of her with some guy whom she had never seen before. Some of them were explicit while some showed them all cuddled up.

"What are these, Michael?"

"Certainly not of you being faithful." He replied.

Diane shook her head, looking from Michael to the pictures and back at him, "These are fake, Michael, these are fake."

"Open the second envelope." He commanded impatiently, not ready to hear her pleas.

She obeyed with trembling hands. As she saw them, she knew right away what they were.

Divorce papers.

And of all the gifts Diane could have imagined would be his first wedding anniversary gift to her, giving her divorce papers wasn't one of them.

"Get them signed right away," Michael's stern voice cut through the silence as he watched her intently. "Now."
