Blood Bond Blood Bound Series book 5     Amy Blankenship, RK Melton     Copyright © 2012 Amy Blankenship Second Edition Published by TekTime All rights reserved.       Chapter 1 The city of Los Angeles spread out around him in a kaleidoscope of flashing lights and colors. The distant sounds of urban life rang in his ears but Syn paid it no mind, listening instead to the whisper of the soft breeze moving over him. He stood, balanced on the highest peak of one of the tallest buildings in the city, the pinnacle of it being the only thing his feet touched. Syn had his hands buried in the pockets of his pants while his trench coat whipped behind him like a long cape that seemed to disappear and reappear at random as though it were a living thing. His long dark hair had blown back from his face revealing an ageless beauty the likes of which was rarely seen in this world. He had taken the precaution of shielding his aura from all

Chapter 2 Tabatha stepped through the entrance of Silk Stalkings and looked around. She’d come here looking for Kriss… and prayed she would find him. He’d gone missing a few days ago and hadn’t even called… and he’d been avoiding her longer than that. She missed him and was starting to worry. If he was gone for any length of time in the past, he’d at least called and let her know everything was all right. Just catching a glimpse of him would take away her fear that Misery had eaten him or locked him in a cave somewhere. Sitting down at one of the tall tables, she continued to watch the stage hoping Kriss would come out and perform his act. It was almost an hour later that she realized the time and knew Kriss should have hit the stage by now. One of the waiters walked by her and she touched him on the arm to gain his attention. “Do you need something, Miss?” he asked. Tabatha smiled, “I’m hoping you can help me. I’m looking for Kriss Reed. Can you tell me when his ne

Chapter 3 During his teenage years, Ren had made it a habit to log into the Paranormal Investigation Team’s database so he could keep up on current events. He was also smart enough to then destroy whatever computer he had used so it couldn’t be tracked back to him. It had been a thrill to breech the firewalls set up on a division of the government that supposedly didn’t exist. The paranormal investigation team, otherwise known as P.I.T., knew Ren was stalking their assignments and siphoning their encrypted information, but so far they had never caught up with him and they had never found a firewall thick enough to keep him out of their private system. Not only was he stealing their data, but Ren was leaving data behind from his own paranormal investigations. After several years, the head of PIT had started leaving Rin messages behind the thickest, most encrypted firewalls Rin had ever seen. It was behind those walls that Rin had secretly joined the elusive P.I.T. group, but

Chapter 4 Angelica lay on the bed with a couple of pillows propped up against the headboard behind her trying to avoid sleep… her new favorite pastime. As soon as she came back in with her suitcase, she knew Zachary had pulled his little switch on Ren as the other man was sitting on the sofa staring at him. Zachary had told her to go ahead and find a room and get some sleep so she’d happily pretended to do just that. She’d walked the long halls for a few moments before choosing a door at random and opened it. Upon seeing the interior she smiled and placed her suitcase on the bed. The room was decorated in shades of purple accented with gold and lighter shades of lavender. The bed was huge, probably emperor size, with a beautiful canopy accompanied by gold and purple throw pillows and comforter. The sheets and pillowcases were lavender and she almost giggled at the little gold tassels on the corners of them. A large armoire sat on the far side of the room. When she opene

Chapter 5 Michael was on his way down to the main floor after paying a visit to Warren when he noticed Tabatha walk into the club. The philosophical side of him had many questions when it came to her. She’d been born while Kane was within the grave… so what god had decided upon her birth that she was Kane’s soul mate? “Obviously a very smart one since she was destined to bleed on his grave and release him from the spell,” he answered his own question with a whisper as he sized her up. She was beyond beautiful with her long blond hair cut in many layers, ice blue eyes, and lightly tanned skin. It looked like she’d been kissed by some elusive sun god. He watched her short breakdown in front of Kat and Envy and sighed, she was hurting. He tilted his head a bit to listen in on the conversation… now he was glad he’d eavesdropped since Kane had been the main topic. He wondered why Kane hadn’t said anything to anyone about Tabatha since his return to the city. If the gods had

Chapter 6 Misery watched with rapt attention as another symbol appeared on the medallion. This was the third one and Cyrus was simply having a bit of fun with the spider. The red light of the runic writing illuminated his face and Misery’s expression became ecstatic when she finally saw his dark soul. The light made him look extremely pale, white-blue skin tone accented by protruding cheekbones. It could have been a trick of the light but his mouth was stretched into an insidious smile with yellowed teeth and deep black pits for eyes that let her see directly into the lower pits of the underworld. When the light faded, the little boy he actually was reappeared. He was stretched out on the concrete on his belly with his arms crossed and his chin resting on the backs of his hands. His feet were waving back and forth in the air and he was humming a nonsense tune that appealed to Misery’s own darkness. Cyrus stopped waving his feet and jerked his head back to look up at the

Chapter 7 Jason was still shaking when they got back to the ranger station. Luckily no one was there at the moment and it gave the three of them time to completely calm down. Hunter and Tabatha had both lit up a cigarette and were trying to bring down their adrenaline levels. Hunter was sitting on a desk with his feet resting on a chair, his head was bowed low and his body shook uncontrollably. The only other movement or sound he made was the occasional exhale on the cigarette. Tabatha was on her second cigarette, having lit one up in the jeep on the way back. She was sitting on the floor with her knees up and her chin resting on them. Jason was sitting back in Hunter’s office chair with a blanket wrapped around him and a very strong cup of coffee in his hand. He was shaking so bad he’d almost dropped the cup too many times to count but he wouldn’t put it down. “I can still feel it,” Jason said after a moment. Tabatha looked up at him, “Feel what?” “Fingers,” Ja

Chapter 8 Ren raced down the lone road toward the castle, his motorcycle roaring comfortingly beneath him. Since no police patrolled this stretch of road, he pushed on the gas to go faster. It was an elating sensation, a feeling of perfect freedom that he didn’t get to experience very often and he cherished the moment as one would cherish a rare jewel. He was almost a mile away from the castle when he felt something slam into him… a wave of power so unexpected that it distracted him for a brief second. Ren stopped the bike and glared up the road not wanting to deal with new people right now but Storm insisted this was the best way to take care of the threat hanging over the city. Army or not, Ren wasn’t happy about it and would probably remain unhappy until it was all over. Revving the bike again, he took off down the road at top speed exceeding seventy miles an hour around the hairpin turns. Ren suddenly felt weightless and looked down in shock when his lower body star

Chapter 9 Jason was rushing back and forth, putting necessities in an overnight bag for his unexpected stay in Michael’s home. He stopped for a moment wondering how long he was going to stay and grabbed another small suitcase to start packing it just in case. Tabatha sat on the bed watching him run around and truly felt sorry for him. This was all brand new and she knew he was close to his breaking point. Jason could take a lot more crap than most people gave him credit for. He came off as a very sensitive guy, but if you pushed his buttons one too many times… boom. Jason zipped up the overnight bag and flipped open the suitcase, packing more stuff into it. “How long have you known about all of this Tabatha?” he asked. “Have you always known? What about Envy? And is Kriss aware of anything that’s going on?” Tabatha sighed, “Only a few weeks, no I haven’t, Envy knows for different reasons, and Kriss is very aware.” Jason paused in his movements and just stared at the

Chapter 10 Trevor had stayed behind the clan… following them for the last thirty minutes and cursing the fact that Jason seemed buddy-buddy with Envy while he was stuck watching from the sidelines. He still held a grudge against Jason for playing a part in outing him to Envy. Still, his gut instinct told him the boy was harmless and didn’t deserve the death mark. When he’d called Moon Dance in an effort to track down Tabatha and Jason, the employee who had answered for Envy seemed like a complete idiot and he’d been put on hold. The wait had been quick as a moment later Devon picked up the line and answered in a not-so-happy voice. The jaguar was about as stupid as his employee… Trevor had had a very hard time explaining to Devon that he was calling to check on the whereabouts of Jason and Tabatha… not trying to track down Envy and using Jason as an excuse. Although, he did love the fact that Devon counted him as a major threat to his and Envy’s relationship. Maybe the jagu
