Two years after Dami married Aisha. He starts to question himself if he had made the right decisions in his life. If being a drug dealer was the best way to survive in Nigeria, was the best way to protect his family and the one he loves. A story about a Nigerian man from a polygamous home and how he is able to take care of his family.
Lihat lebih banyakLife they say isn't a bed of roses,it has thorns. To dami it's a bed of sharp knives, cutlasses, razors, axes, any type of sharp objects you want to use,not thorns.
Dami pushed back his blankets and kneeled next to his bed.He thanked God for waking him up,making him see another day,a prayer he said every morning. It had always been God through it all.
He wore his fur slides and went down the stairs to drink a cup of coffee I mean that's something bosses do right?
Maybe not but a bottle of water was the first thing dami drank every morning after losing so much body fluids from working out.His body always demanded water before coffee.Coffee was just something he thought bosses always take every morning,he'd seen it in movies a lot as a kid.All those rich American men who'd wake every morning drinking coffee in their fancy apartment,at their company even when they'd meet someone at a park.
Sipping his cup of coffee,he turned on the big plasma tv.While completing the installment of electronic appliances in his house. Dami asked if the electricians could install a big TV into the wall where the whole wall would be the screen. He loved having a big view of things everything big big like young ma said in her song:BIG. They all laughed it off, telling dami that Nigeria didn't have such technology and of course they couldn't do it.
The tv had been boring for about some days now,he was tired of watching movies; alone.Even the news he always disliked became something he had to force himself to do. In no time he got tired of it too .
He decided to play some music that would wake up his spirits and probably kill some boredom.
The money wey we get o he no go finish o amen
That song one artiste featured Wizkid. His love for Wizkid was more than just the song or any other wizkid's song. He stalked every part of him, from his relationships to his lifestyle.Even most of his dressing were always looks of wizkid's.Yes he's rich,he can afford to buy those designer clothes wizzy wears.
"Babe why is the music so loud",dami heard a voice from upstairs accompanied with some footsteps .Dami was so sure he heard a voice. He immediately stopped the music.
Babe? Why is the music so loud? And where did that come from?
He immediately thought of dropping his cup of coffee on table that was in the middle of his large sitting room and in between his majesty looking couches. He did so.
Dami didn't only see himself as a boss he saw himself as a king. His love for white color made his house inner painting white colour. He also had a picture of a flying dragon with fire in it's mouth hung on the wall in the sitting room, the same exact tattoo he had on his chest.
Dami was sure he heard a female's voice underneath the loudness of the music,he was so sure cause this wasn't some movie where he'd be hallucinating or daydreaming such a thing.
A young light skinned woman wearing a white tee shirt that covered her body down to her rump, exposing her lower body ,was walking down the stairs. She tousled her thick kinky hair revealing her face a bit.
Damn she had a long hair. Dami thought when he caught sight of her. He had never seen a girl with such long hair before.
That's my shirt,isn't it?
"Why did you switch off the music,I liked the song actually but it was too loud that's why I said something... and why are you standing there looking at me like that as if you just saw a ghost?"
She must be quite garrulous with the way she had talked, dami thought.
Something was odd.
Dami was speechless, at the same time he knew what to say. How did she get into his house,he didn't recollect bringing any girl home last night. she was so beautiful that he couldn't stop staring at her with surprise and curiosity.
He closed his eyes for a moment trying to remember something, anything that would explain why she was in his house.
"You're the girl at the club last night right?..." he managed to say, biting his lower lips at the sudden memory of the previous night.
" But wait, what're you doing here?"dami asked moving to the foot of the stairs where she was standing.
Damn gave a body a quick glance. She has an amazing body,Dami shook his head at an attempt to get rid of his thoughts. That was the last he should have in his thoughts.
She could be dangerous cause why else would she be in his house without his knowledge. They only had a few minutes talk at the club with some drinks. Drinks not enough to get him high or unconscious.
"Ahn ahn what do you mean what am I doing here?,I'm here cause you brought me to your house last night and we made love"
"Me? What? You must be high or something," He let a derisive smile. He couldn't believe his ears. He moved closer to where she stood attempting to grab her by the shoulders.
However, she managed to bend over his arms and walked away from him. So they could talk from a far distance about what had happened the previous night.
"Yes we did,you brought me to your house. I mean how else would I be here?. I woke up earlier but I was trying to clear my head a little bit. I took a walk, that's why you didn't see me next to you when you woke up. And I must say,you have a very beautiful home."
Dami stood, glaring at her with whatever look she could see on his face .
Confused at how a beautiful woman like that could stand right in front of him and tell him lies.
Why can't he remember anything? He asked himself. They met at the club and that was all. How did she get in? ,what's with the we made love?. What love? With a stranger?.He kept throwing questions at himself in his mind."You Know what? I don't remember anything that happened last night okay?... I only remember we had a couple of drinks at the club... we talked but how you got here is what I don't remember"
"Maybe you're a little too bothered that's all. I'll make you remember"she said in a low tone almost sounding like a whisper.
"You brought me here,we kissed here,we made love here, you told me you loved me here and that I tasted so good here and then you carried me here and took me to your room and then we made love again in your room"she said pointing to all the places and moving closer to them until she finally got very close to dami cause where he stood was where he carried her.
"You must be mad"he shouted.
"You don't need to shout at her like Dami, you're a man you should take responsibility "a tall tanned skinned man with two other men behind him appeared in the room with dami.
Just before the young man could get close to Dami.Dami pulled himself away from the girl and walked towards the man so he could talk to him without allowing anyone else listen to their conversation.
Now how did they get in?
I've tighten my security, how the f**k did they get in?. Dami thought
He recognized the face and he sure wouldn't allow him to use the pistol he was holding in his hand.
The young woman was scared when she saw the men walk into the house, also the gun. Dami who she had held too pushed her aside. She moved slowly so she wouldn't be noticed. She started walking up the stairs.
"I told you I was going to give you your product tonight you didn't have to come to my house" Dami said close to Federico's ear, with a frown on his face.
Bhaow
Dami turned and saw that the girl was shot.
Dami hobbled into his room, ignoring the pain he felt in his ankle. He had sprained his ankle while he was walking up the stairs to his room. He pulled off his jacket and leapt on the bed.He laid his back on the bed,his head against the pillow, his gaze on the ceilings. He was tired despite the day being the most unproductive Monday in his life. Dami strongly regraded Monday as "ojo aje". He reckoned one could play around a lot on other days but not on Mondays. He closed his eyes pondering on how the next day would change his life. He tried his best to banish Aisha from his thoughts. He had to start learning how to live without her,to move on. For now, till everything he hadn't even planned work out.He opened his eyes at the thought of how confused he was, everything was happening so fast. He stared at the ceilings wishing the answers to the questions in his mind
"...I just need to make them stop suspecting me" Tiana said putting her rope on. Michelle sighed heavily, the gravity of her breathe was felt over the phone. "I still don't get why you're doing this over a man...I've never seen you go crazy over a man like this before..much less hurt someone" "I didn't hurt her,I simply told her the truth. She deserved to know that the man she's married to is a drug dealer" "You're forgetting that that's the same man you're in love with" Tiana paused at Michelle's words, the sound of her feet tap against the floor filled the room. She kept tapping it so hard hoping the sound would send a signal of relief down her spine. Michelle noticed the sudden silence over the phone. She could faintly hear the tap of Tiana's feet. "Tiana, you really could get in trouble being with this man and you know that. I really do not like this whole thin
"... And I don't think it was Tiana who told her everything" Dami could tell that was what Korede was driving at. Fear and worry was written on his dark eyes. Aisha was Korede’s best friend forever, of course he was worried about her. He was certain Korede cared less about Tiana for now. "I think she did !" Korede pointed out. " She's the only one who would benefit from this. I can't seem to think of any one else who would" "And since when did you start thinking?" Dami asked Korede calmly so his question wouldn't sound insulting. He wasn't in the mood to bicker with Korede. Korede stood speechless. Fury filled him. He could feel his hair pores twitching as a result of Dami's question. This was a side of Dami he wouldn't dare question or infuriate. Dami wished Korede would leave him alone. He needed a moment of solitude. But the young man was sti
Life didn't make any sense, Dami thought as he stared deep into the empty road. He turned to see his siblings sleep soundly. A strong wind came causing Dami to close his eyes defensively. He pulled the blanket he found in the bin over his siblings to keep them warmer. The one they had been using wasn't enough to protect them from the wind.He sat up to lay his back against the wall as the cold moved down his spine. He turned to look at the carton his siblings slept on. He wished he could enjoy the warmth of it.Instead he moved his eyes away from them to stare at the rest of the beggers that were sleeping under the bridge. Most of them sleeping on the bare floor like he was,the rest of them on carton or clothes. Memories of when he used to see little kids beg on the streets when he and his mother went to the market flashed in his mind. He never thought he'd become one of them.It had been two ye
Aisha woke up the next morning with an excruciating headache. Lifting her head from the pillow it’s veins were being pulled by a group of diabolical forces. She closed her eyes as the sunlight that penetrated the window reflected on it. Resiliently, she rose up from the bed to look for drugs that would ease the pain she felt in her head. Her unconscious self found it’s way to the door of the room. When Aisha got to the parlour, she realized she wasn't in her house. She wasn't in Dami's house. She fell to the floor as images of what happened the previous night flooded her mind. She was fully awake now. She pressed her hand against her chest as she began to cry. She wished it was all a nightmare but it felt too real to be one. A gentle pat fell on her back, she jerked and turned to see it was Mutiat. "Don't touch me" Aisha moved away from Mutiat. "Aisha", Mutiat sighed. She wished Aisha could rethink all this and
Aisha wasn't so comfortable sitting alone with Tiana. But since Dami had to leave, she had no choice but to sit a few minutes with her. Tiana on the hand, was so much focused on her phone, she didn't say a word. After a while, Aisha left the table. She left for Mutiat's and Ajoke's. "You're back?" Ajoke asked astonishingly. "Yes" Aisha sat next to Mutiat, she was glad the seat was still empty. "Dami and his friends left already...went to attend to some stuff.I think it's going to take a while" "Oh okay" Mutiat said. "And his secretary?" Ajoke asked apathetically. Aisha raised her eyebrows. She was irritated with what Ajoke asked her. She didn't retort, maybe the five years ago Aisha would have. Ajoke was just too good with words to bicker with. She'd prevail without effort. Instead Aisha poured wine from the bottle on the table into a glass and s
