_Luca’s POV_

Amelie crumpled before I even understood what was happening.

One moment she was on her feet, pale and shaking, muttering something about finding a bathroom. The next, her knees buckled. She swayed like a brittle branch in a storm.

“Amelie!” The word ripped out of me before I could stop it.

Her body went limp, tipping forward. My chest seized. Instinct roared through me. I lunged, catching her before her head could smack against the cracked cement floor. My arms closed around her narrow frame, and the shock of her weight—or rather, the lack of it—struck me harder than the gunfire had hours earlier.

She was feather-light. Hollow.

I don't know what we had been expecting after we had just rescued her.

But the sight of Nico being shot had taken out focus away from that.

I felt stupid and bad.

Her head lolled against my shoulder, her face slack, lashes damp against her cheeks. For one terrible heartbeat, I thought she was gone.

“No, no—” My voice was ragged. My hands shook a

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   Gone

_Amelie’s POV_The lecture hall smelled faintly of coffee and dry marker ink, the kind of stale mix that clung to the air after hours of classes. Rows of students hunched over their notebooks, pens scratching furiously as the professor spoke. The projector hummed, light flickering across diagrams of the human body. For once, my mind didn’t wander. It was all fascinating to me.Every word stuck. Every image made sense. I leaned forward in my seat, scribbling down notes until my wrist ached, and yet I couldn’t stop. There was something grounding about it—about studying the delicate systems that kept people alive, about tracing the fragile lines of arteries and veins and knowing what kept a heart beating.Knowing I could save a life and still take a life was something I still held on to. This was the future I wanted. Something clean. Something mine. Not stolen, not given by blood money, not forced into my hands by a father’s cruelty.Just me, learning, building, making something out of

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   A new start

_Amelie’s POV_It had been three weeks since we landed in Brazil.Three weeks since I’d become Chiara Bellini. Three weeks since I’d learned how to say speak with a smile that almost felt natural. Three weeks since the brothers and I had slipped into a life that wasn’t ours but was slowly beginning to fit.No mafia. No guns.We had given all those up for a life that was normal. For the first time in years, I was breathing without the weight of fear pressing on my chest. We had a house. A real house, with walls painted soft cream and wide windows that let sunlight pour in every morning. It wasn’t grand like Santiago’s estate, or suffocating like the safehouses I’d known before. It wasn't something that screamed ‘wealth’ with hundreds of rooms for each of their men. It was simple, lived-in, with mismatched furniture Luca had bargained for and Matteo had carried in with clenched teeth. There were plants on the porch, plants I had to beg to keep because Matteo thought I would let them

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   Chiara Bellini

_Amelie’s POV_The hum of the engines was steady, a low vibration that ran through the metal of the plane, through the seat, through my body. It was the kind of sound that could lull you to sleep, but for me it only made the silence louder. And it certainly kept me awake. My hands wouldn’t stop shaking. I held the little navy-blue booklet tighter, pressing it into my lap like it might fly away if I let go. The gold letters on the cover glared back at me in the dim cabin light, the words sharp and foreign:Repubblica Italiana. When I finally dared to open it, the face staring back was mine, but it wasn’t.The picture was of me, hair tied neatly, eyes looking forward. But the name beneath the photograph didn’t belong to me.Chiara Bellini.I traced the letters with my thumb, half-expecting them to smudge off the page. They didn’t. They were fixed, permanent, like this was who I was now.Amelie no longer existed.I had picked up a new identity and hoped this worked out for me.The though

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   Killing Amelie

_Amelie’s POV_The room smelled faintly of antiseptic and blood. Not enough to be a hospital—God, they’d never risk that—but enough to remind me of one. The safehouse was a hollowed-out ruin, patched together with scavenged supplies, but someone had managed to make it into a kind of infirmary. A metal lamp bent awkwardly over the bed, sheets too thin to be clean, the faint drip of water in the corner.Nico lay on the mattress, his skin chalk-white, chest rising and falling unevenly. His lips were cracked, his bandages already stained through with fresh blood. I sat on the wooden chair beside him, both hands clamped around his, afraid that if I let go, he’d vanish. He had passed out again after I had clung unto him, but now he was just sleeping. I still felt guilty for putting him in this condition, but I was happy he was alive. My body still ached. My head throbbed from where it had hit the floor, my arm sore where the IV had been ripped out. But none of it mattered compared to him

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   Matteo

_Luca’s POV_ The first thing I saw was blood. It streaked across Amelie’s arm where she had ripped the IV out, running down her pale wrist in a thin crimson line. The needle clattered to the floor, forgotten, as she shoved past Matteo and stumbled toward Nico. Her bare feet slapped against the cold floor, her hospital gown shifting around her legs, but she didn’t care. She didn’t even look at the blood dripping down her arm. She would have tripped if she wasn't careful, but all she saw right now was Nico. “Nico,” she gasped, the word breaking apart in her throat. And then she was in him. She threw herself against his chest, so hard I thought they would both collapse. Nico staggered under her weight, clutching his side, but he didn’t let go. His arms came around her, tight, desperate, shaking. He buried his face in her hair, and she sobbed against him like the world was ending. I stood in the doorway. Matteo was still kneeling beside the bed, his hand outstretched where she h

  • Bound By Blood: The Step-Brothers' Temptation   She loved him More

_Matteo’s POV_The first thing I felt was the stiffness in my neck, it was the ache that came from sleeping too long against stone. The second thing I felt was the hollow pit in my chest when my eyes snapped open, expecting to see her gone. But she wasn’t gone.Amelie was wide awake. She laid on the thin mattress, her skin pale but her eyes were opened wide, looking at me. Her lips parted like she was about to speak, though the IV line connected to her arm told me how fragile she still was.For a second, my lungs forgot how to work. I stared, caught between relief so sharp it felt like a blade and the choking weight of guilt pressing down on me.“Amelie,” I breathed, pushing up from the floor so fast my body protested. Her gaze flicked toward me. It wasn’t sharp, it wasn’t cold—it was worse. It was soft. Fragile. And it shattered me because I didn’t deserve it.I moved closer, knees hitting the floor again by instinct, my hand gripping the edge of the bed like it was the only thing k
