The moment Elara crossed the invisible boundary, the forest changed.

The air grew thicker, heavier with the scent of damp earth, decaying leaves, and something far more dangerous — the unmistakable musk of lawless wolves. Rogue territory. A place where pack laws held no power and only the strongest, or the most desperate, survived.

Her bare feet ached against the rough ground, but she kept moving, driven by raw pain and the desperate need to put as much distance as possible between herself and the humiliation she had left behind.

Every step sent fresh waves of agony through her chest. The rejected mate bond felt like a living wound, pulsing angrily with each heartbeat. It whispered cruel reminders of Kael’s cold silver eyes, his deep voice declaring her unworthy in front of the entire pack.

Too weak.

Fragile.

Unworthy.

Tears continued to fall silently as she pushed deeper into the woods. The moonlight filtered through the dense canopy in broken silver patches, barely enough to light her way. Strange howls echoed in the distance — not the disciplined calls of pack wolves, but wild, chaotic cries that made her skin crawl.

She had no supplies. No food. No water. Just the thin white ceremonial dress now torn and dirtied at the hem, and a heart that felt like it had been ripped in two.

“Why?” she whispered to the night, her voice hoarse. “Why would the Goddess do this to me?”

There was no answer. Only the rustle of leaves and the growing awareness that she was being watched.

Hours passed. Exhaustion weighed heavily on her limbs. The pain from the broken bond had dulled into a constant, throbbing ache, but a new fear began to take root. She was wolfless. Defenseless. In a land where rogues killed first and asked questions never.

A low growl sounded somewhere to her left.

Elara froze.

Two glowing yellow eyes appeared in the darkness, followed by another pair, then three more. Rogues. Unaffiliated wolves who had either been banished or had chosen the wild life. Their forms were gaunt but muscular, their fur matted and scarred from countless fights.

“Well, well,” a rough male voice called out as one of them shifted into human form. He was tall and wiry, with a jagged scar running down his cheek.

“What do we have here? A little lost lamb in white.”

The others shifted too, surrounding her in a loose circle. Their eyes raked over her body with blatant hunger — not the respectful gaze of pack wolves, but the starving look of males who took what they wanted.

Elara’s heart hammered wildly. She backed up slowly until her spine hit the rough bark of a tree.

“I’m just passing through,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady. “I don’t want any trouble.”

The scarred rogue laughed, a harsh, grating sound.

“Passing through? Sweetheart, everything in these lands belongs to someone. And tonight… you look like you belong to us.”

One of them stepped closer, inhaling deeply. “She smells… different. Almost like an alpha’s scent, but faint. Rejected, maybe?” His grin turned vicious.

“Even better. No pack to come looking for a broken toy.”

Fear clawed up Elara’s throat. She glanced around desperately for any escape route, but they had her trapped.

“Please,” she whispered, hating how weak she sounded. “Just let me go.”

The leader grabbed her wrist, his grip bruising. “Begging already? I like that. Makes it more fun.” He yanked her forward, slamming her against his chest. The stench of sweat and blood made her stomach churn.

Elara struggled, kicking and twisting, but without a wolf, her strength was pathetic compared to theirs. A rough hand tangled in her hair, pulling her head back painfully.

“Hold still, omega. This won’t take long—”

A surge of pure rage and desperation flooded her veins. For the first time in her life, something deep inside her stirred. A flicker. A spark. Not quite a wolf, but something hot and furious that had been buried for years.

She slammed her knee upward with all her strength, catching the rogue between the legs.

He howled in pain and released her.

Elara didn’t waste the chance. She bolted, running blindly through the underbrush as angry shouts erupted behind her.

“Get her!”

Branches slashed at her arms and face. Her dress tore further, leaving bloody scratches along her legs. She could hear them crashing through the forest, gaining on her.

Her lungs burned. Her legs screamed for mercy. But she kept running.

Until a heavy body slammed into her from the side.

She hit the ground hard, the impact knocking the air from her lungs. The scarred rogue pinned her down, his weight crushing her smaller frame.

“You little bitch,” he snarled, blood trickling from his split lip where she had somehow caught him during the fall. “You’re going to pay for that.”

His claws extended, pressing against her throat.

Elara closed her eyes, waiting for the end, when suddenly a new sound cut through the night — a deep, thunderous roar that shook the trees themselves.

The rogues froze.

Before any of them could react, a massive black wolf burst from the shadows like a demon from hell. Larger than any wolf she had ever seen, with sleek obsidian fur and eyes glowing molten silver.

Kael.

Even in wolf form, his dominance was unmistakable. He moved with terrifying speed, tearing into the first rogue with brutal efficiency. Bones cracked. Blood sprayed across the forest floor.

The fight was savage and short.

One rogue tried to flee. Kael’s powerful jaws closed around his neck with a sickening crunch.

The scarred leader shifted and lunged at the Alpha, but Kael was faster. He slammed the rogue to the ground, massive paw pinning him as his fangs sank deep into flesh.

Within minutes, the clearing was silent except for the heavy breathing of the victorious Alpha wolf.

Elara lay on the ground, trembling, her white dress now stained with dirt and blood. She stared up at the giant black wolf standing over the bodies of her attackers.

Kael shifted back to human form in one fluid, powerful motion. Naked, covered in blood and sweat, every inch of his sculpted body radiating raw power and fury.

His silver eyes locked onto her.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then Kael stalked forward, his expression dark and unreadable. He towered above her, chest heaving.

“You ran,” he growled, voice rough with barely contained rage. “Into rogue lands. Are you trying to get yourself killed?”

Elara pushed herself up on shaky arms, glaring at him through tear-streaked eyes.

“You rejected me,” she spat, her voice breaking.

“You humiliated me in front of everyone. Why do you care if I live or die?”

Kael’s jaw clenched. His hands flexed at his sides as if fighting the urge to grab her.

“Because you’re still mine,” he said, the words low and dangerous, laced with possessive fury. “Even if I don’t want you to be.”

He bent down and scooped her up effortlessly into his arms, ignoring her weak protests.

“Put me down!” she cried, pushing against his hard chest.

“No.” His grip tightened, one arm under her knees, the other supporting her back. His scent — dark and intoxicating — wrapped around her, making the broken bond throb painfully.

“You’re coming back with me. Whether you like it or not.”

As Kael carried her out of the rogue lands, Elara felt the dangerous pull of the mate bond reignite, stronger and more insistent than before.

She had run to escape him.

But the Alpha had come for her anyway.

And something told her that her nightmare — and her darkest desires — had only just begun.

The afternoon sun beat down on the training clearing as Elara moved through the forms Kael had taught her. Each strike came faster, stronger than the last. Her wolf was no longer a faint spark — it surged just beneath her skin, lending her speed and power she had never dreamed of possessing.Kael watched her with dark, unreadable eyes. His arms were crossed over his broad chest, but the tension in his shoulders betrayed how hard he was fighting to keep his distance.“You’re holding back less,” he noted, voice rough with approval. “Good. Again.”Elara spun and delivered a sharp kick toward his midsection. This time, Kael didn’t dodge completely. He caught her leg, yanking her forward until she collided against his hard body. Their faces were inches apart, breaths mingling.“Better,” he murmured, his hand sliding slowly down her thigh before releasing her. “But still not fast enough to survive what’s coming.”Before Elara could ask what he meant, a young delta runner burst into the priv

I’m wolfless, remember? Your words, not mine.”Kael’s jaw tightened. “Not anymore. Something’s changing. I felt it last night when I touched you

Elara paced the spacious bedroom like a caged animal.Hours had passed since Kael locked her inside. The heavy wooden door refused to budge no matter how hard she pulled or kicked. The windows were reinforced glass — beautiful but unbreakable. She was well and truly trapped in the Alpha’s private domain. The room smelled like him. Elara struggled weakly in Kael’s arms, but it was useless. His hold was like iron — unyielding, possessive, and far too gentle for someone who had publicly shattered her heart only hours ago.“Put me down,” she demanded, her voice hoarse from crying and running. Her fists pushed against the hard planes of his bare chest, but the contact only made her traitorous body react. Heat flared where her palms met his skin, the broken mate bond pulsing with painful awareness.Kael didn’t even glance at her. His silver eyes scanned the dark forest ahead as he carried her with effortless strength, his long strides eating up the distance back toward Shadowmoon territory.“I said put me down!” she repeated, louder this time.A low growl rumbled from his chest, vibrating against her side. “Be quiet, little omega. You’ve caused enough trouble tonight.”“Trouble?” Elara laughed bitterly, fresh tears stinging her eyes. “You rejected me in front of the entire pack. You called me weak and unworthy. And
