Elara paced the spacious bedroom like a caged animal.

Hours had passed since Kael locked her inside. The heavy wooden door refused to budge no matter how hard she pulled or kicked. The windows were reinforced glass — beautiful but unbreakable. She was well and truly trapped in the Alpha’s private domain.

The room smelled like him. Dark cedarwood, fresh rain, and raw masculine power. It clung to the black silk sheets, the leather armchair by the fireplace, and the oversized shirts hanging in the walk-in closet. Every breath she took reminded her of the man who had both rejected and rescued her.

Her body ached from the night’s ordeal — scratches stinging on her arms and legs, feet raw from running. But worse than the physical pain was the fire building beneath her skin.

The mate bond.

Even torn and rejected, it refused to stay silent. It pulsed hotter with every passing minute, sending waves of uncomfortable heat through her veins. Her nipples had tightened into sensitive peaks against the thin fabric of her torn dress. A deep, throbbing ache had settled low in her belly, making her thighs press together instinctively.

She hated it.

She hated how her body responded to the memory of Kael’s naked, blood-streaked body carrying her so effortlessly. She hated how his growled words — “You’re still mine” — kept echoing in her mind.

A sharp knock sounded on the door.

Before she could answer, the lock clicked and Kael stepped inside.

He had showered and changed. Black sweatpants hung low on his hips, leaving his powerful upper body bare. Water droplets still clung to his sculpted chest and abs, tracing the deep V that disappeared beneath the waistband.

His jet-black hair was damp and tousled, and those piercing silver eyes immediately found her.

Elara’s breath hitched. The bond flared violently at his presence, making her knees weak.

“You’re still in that dirty dress,” he observed, voice low and rough. His gaze slowly dragged down her body, darkening as it traced the tears in the fabric that revealed glimpses of her pale skin.

“I didn’t exactly have a choice,” she snapped, crossing her arms over her chest. “Since you locked me in here like a prisoner.”

Kael closed the door behind him and leaned against it, arms folded. The movement made his biceps flex powerfully.

“It’s for your own safety. The pack is still talking about last night. Some are calling for you to be banished completely.”

Elara laughed bitterly. “And you? What do you want, Alpha? To keep me hidden away so I don’t embarrass you further?”

He pushed off the door and stalked toward her slowly, each step deliberate. Elara backed up until the back of her legs hit the large bed. She had nowhere left to run.

Kael stopped only inches away. The heat radiating from his body made the air feel thick and charged.

“I want you where I can protect you,” he said, voice dropping into a dangerous growl.

“Where no other male can even look at you.”

His hand lifted, and this time he didn’t stop himself. His fingers brushed along her jaw, tilting her face up to meet his gaze. The touch sent electricity racing across her skin. The mate bond screamed for more, flooding her with overwhelming need.

Elara’s lips parted on a shaky breath. “You rejected me.”

“I know what I said.” His thumb traced her lower lip, eyes following the movement with dark hunger. “But the bond doesn’t listen to rejection. It’s getting stronger. Can you feel it?”

She did. Goddess, she did.

A slick warmth had begun gathering between her thighs. Her pulse thundered in her ears. Every inch of her skin felt hypersensitive, aching for his touch.

Kael leaned closer, his forehead nearly resting against hers. His scent wrapped around her like chains.

“Tell me you don’t feel it,” he challenged, voice husky. “Tell me your body isn’t burning for me right now.”

Elara’s hands came up to press against his chest, intending to push him away. Instead, her fingers curled against his warm skin, nails digging in slightly.

“I hate you,” she whispered, but the words lacked conviction.

A dark, satisfied smile curved his lips. “Good. Hate me all you want, little omega. It makes the pull even sweeter.”

Without warning, his mouth crashed down on hers.

The kiss was not gentle. It was raw, dominant, and desperate — months of suppressed need exploding in a single moment. Kael’s hand tangled in her hair, tilting her head back as he devoured her. His tongue swept inside, claiming her mouth with fierce strokes that left her dizzy.

Elara moaned into the kiss, her body betraying her completely. She pressed closer, feeling the hard evidence of his arousal against her stomach. He was huge, thick, and unmistakably hard beneath the thin sweatpants.

Kael growled deeply, the sound vibrating through her chest. He lifted her effortlessly, hands gripping her thighs as he wrapped her legs around his waist. The torn dress rode up, exposing her bare skin to his touch.

He walked them forward until her back hit the wall, pinning her there with his powerful body. His mouth left hers to trail hot, open-mouthed kisses down her neck, teeth grazing the sensitive spot where a claiming mark would go.

Elara gasped, hips rolling instinctively against him.

“Kael…” she breathed, half plea, half protest.

He pulled back just enough to look into her eyes. His silver gaze was wild, pupils blown wide with lust. His breathing was ragged, chest heaving.

“I shouldn’t want you this much,” he admitted, voice strained.

“But I can’t stop. The bond is driving me insane. Every second I’m not touching you feels like torture.”

His hand slid higher up her thigh, dangerously close to the aching heat between her legs. One finger brushed against the damp fabric of her panties, and they both groaned.

Elara’s head fell back against the wall. “Then why did you reject me?”

Kael’s body tensed. For a moment, the lust cleared slightly, revealing the conflict raging behind his eyes.

“Because claiming you fully would make you a target,” he said roughly. “There are enemies who would use you to destroy me. A weak Luna would—”

“I’m not weak,” she interrupted, fire flashing in her eyes even as desire clouded them.

Something shifted in Kael’s expression — respect mixed with raw hunger.

He pressed his forehead to hers again, fighting for control. His hand stilled on her thigh, though his body trembled with restraint.

“Not yet,” he growled. “But this bond is awakening something in you. I can feel it.”

He slowly lowered her back to her feet, stepping back with obvious difficulty. His erection strained visibly against his sweatpants, but he clenched his fists and turned away.

“Clean up,” he ordered, voice thick. “There are clothes in the closet. Food will be brought shortly.”

Elara stood there trembling, lips swollen from his kiss, body screaming for more.

As Kael reached the door, he paused, back still to her.

“And Elara…” His voice dropped into a dark, possessive warning. “If any other male comes near you, I will paint the walls with their blood. You belong to me. Even if I haven’t claimed you yet.”

The door closed and locked once more.

Elara slid down the wall, pressing her thighs together to ease the throbbing ache he had left behind.

The Alpha had rejected her.

But his obsession was only growing.

And the burning bond between them was quickly becoming impossible to resist.

Her wolf was no longer a faint spark — it surged just beneath her skin, lending her speed and power she had never dreamed of possessing.Kael watched her with dark, unreadable eyes. His arms were crossed over his broad chest, but the tension in his shoulders betrayed how hard he was fighting to keep his distance.“You’re holding back less,” he noted, voice rough with approval. “Good. Again.”Elara spun and delivered a sharp kick toward his midsection. This time, Kael didn’t dodge completely. He caught her leg, yanking her forward until she collided against his hard body. Their faces were inches apart, breaths mingling.“Better,” he murmured, his hand sliding slowly down her thigh before releasing her. “But still not fast enough to survive what’s coming.”Before Elara could ask what he meant, a young delta runner burst into the priv

Elara struggled weakly in Kael’s arms, but it was useless. His hold was like iron — unyielding, possessive, and far too gentle for someone who had publicly shattered her heart only hours ago.“Put me down,” she demanded, her voice hoarse from crying and running. Her fists pushed against the hard planes of his bare chest, but the contact only made her traitorous body react. Heat flared where her palms met his skin, the broken mate bond pulsing with painful awareness.Kael didn’t even glance at her. His silver eyes scanned the dark forest ahead as he carried her with effortless strength, his long strides eating up the distance back toward Shadowmoon territory.“I said put me down!” she repeated, louder this time.A low growl rumbled from his chest, vibrating against her side. “Be quiet, little omega. You’ve caused enough trouble tonight.”“Trouble?” Elara laughed bitterly, fresh tears stinging her eyes. “You rejected me in front of the entire pack. You called me weak and unworthy. And
