The lodge felt unnaturally quiet after Kael’s departure. Elara lay on the black silk sheets, her body still thrumming with unspent heat. Her skin burned where his hands had been, and the mate bond pulsed like a living heartbeat between her ribs—stronger now, more insistent. Golden sparks flickered faintly at the edges of her vision every time she closed her eyes.

She sat up slowly, pulling one of Kael’s oversized black shirts over her head. It smelled overwhelmingly of him: dark cedarwood, rain, and raw masculine power. The fabric fell to mid-thigh, brushing against her still-sensitive skin and drawing a frustrated growl from her throat.

Her wolf was wide awake now, pacing and snarling at being denied. The power she had felt during the fight with Lila still hummed in her veins, but it was incomplete—restless, demanding more.

Elara paced the bedroom, bare feet silent on the cool wooden floor. Outside, the sounds of battle had faded into the distance, replaced by occasional howls and the low murmur of pack warriors moving through the compound. She approached the reinforced window and stared into the moonlit forest, her newly sharpened senses picking up distant scents of blood and aggression.

Minutes stretched into what felt like hours. Restlessness turned to worry. What if Kael was hurt? What if the rogues—or whoever was truly behind the attacks—had laid a trap?

A soft knock sounded at the outer door. Elara froze.

“Miss Elara?” A cautious female voice called. “It’s Mira. The Alpha asked me to bring you food and check on you.”

Elara hesitated, then unlocked the door. Mira stood there with a tray—roasted meat, fresh bread, water, and herbs. The kind delta’s eyes widened at the sight of Elara in Kael’s shirt, the faint glow still lingering in her golden eyes.

“You’ve… changed,” Mira whispered, a small smile breaking through her worry. “The whole pack is talking about it. Some are scared. Others… hopeful.”

Elara stepped aside to let her in. “Hopeful?”

“That the Alpha’s mate might actually be strong enough to stand beside him.” Mira set the tray on a side table. “But there are whispers too. About your parents. About curses.”

Before Elara could respond, a thunderous roar echoed from the direction of the packhouse. Kael’s voice—raw with fury.

Mira paled. “They must have started the interrogation.”

Elara’s wolf surged forward. “Take me there.”

“Miss Elara, the Alpha said—”

“I’m not asking.” Power laced her words, surprising even her. Mira bowed her head instinctively and led the way.

The war room was a storm of tension when they arrived. Kael stood at the center like a god of wrath, his massive frame radiating lethal energy. Elara’s parents were on their knees before him—her father bloodied and defiant, her mother pale and muttering under her breath. Silver chains bound their wrists, suppressing their wolves.

Kael’s silver eyes snapped to Elara the moment she entered. A flash of anger at her disobedience crossed his face, quickly replaced by something darker—pride and hunger.

“You shouldn’t be here,” he growled, but he didn’t order her away.

“I need to hear this,” Elara said, stepping forward. Her gaze locked on her mother. “Why? Why did you suppress my wolf? Why betray your own daughter?”

Her mother lifted her head, eyes hollow. “It was for your own good. The bloodline… the curse. Your power is too dangerous. The old families feared what you would become if you bonded with an Alpha like him.” She glanced at Kael with pure hatred. “A Voss and our blood together would awaken something that should stay buried.”

Her father spat blood onto the floor. “You were meant to stay weak. Invisible. The rogues were paid to eliminate you if the suppression ever failed. Lila’s father was just one piece.”

Kael’s hand shot out, gripping her father’s throat. “Names. All of them. Or I’ll make your death last days.”

As the interrogation intensified, Elara felt the bond between her and Kael flare violently. Golden light began to glow from her skin again, brighter than before. The air crackled with ancient magic. Her mother’s eyes widened in terror.

“It’s happening,” the older woman hissed. “The curse is breaking. The Moon Goddess’s true gift… it will consume you both.”

A sharp pain lanced through Elara’s chest. She gasped, doubling over. Kael was at her side instantly, pulling her against his chest. His warmth poured into her through the bond, easing the agony.

“Fight it,” he murmured against her hair. “You’re stronger than their curse.”

The pain crested—and then shattered.

Elara cried out as her wolf fully surged forward for the first time. Her senses exploded. She could hear every heartbeat in the room, smell the fear rolling off her parents, feel the threads of the mate bond weaving tighter, almost tangible.

When she opened her eyes, her vision was sharper, the world painted in vivid new colors. Fangs had partially descended, and a low, dominant growl rolled from her chest—strong enough to make the betas step back.

Kael stared down at her with raw, unfiltered awe and lust. His hand cupped her jaw, thumb tracing her elongated canines. “Beautiful,” he breathed. “And mine.”

The moment was shattered by a warrior bursting into the room. “Alpha! Lila’s father has been found—he’s rallying rogues at the northern border. They’re coming for her.” He pointed at Elara. “They want the cursed bloodline ended tonight.”

Kael’s expression turned murderous. He lifted Elara’s chin, forcing her to meet his burning silver gaze. “Stay close to me. No more running off alone.”

This time, Elara didn’t argue. The power surging through her veins felt right—especially when mixed with his.

As Kael barked orders and prepared to lead a counterstrike, he leaned down, lips brushing her ear so only she could hear:

“When this battle is over, little wolf… I’m dragging you back to our bed. And I won’t stop until you’re marked, knotted, and screaming my name.”

Heat flooded Elara’s core despite the looming danger. Her wolf howled in approval.

The conspiracy was no longer hidden in shadows.

And together, they were about to paint the forest red.

The heavy wooden door of Kael’s lodge slammed shut behind them, sealing out the distant howls of the hunting parties. Elara’s heart still thundered from the hallway fight, her newly awakened wolf pacing restlessly just beneath her skin. The shallow cut on her ribs had already closed under Kael’s Alpha healing, leaving only a faint pink line and the memory of stinging silver.Kael didn’t release her immediately. He carried her straight to the bedroom, his arms like steel bands around her body, as if letting go might allow the world to snatch her away again. The black silk sheets were still rumpled from the night before. He lowered her onto the bed with surprising care, but his silver eyes burned with barely leashed fury.“You were supposed to stay inside,” he growled, voice low and dangerous. His large hand hovered over the healed wound on her side, fingers tracing the torn fabric of her shirt. “I gave you a direct order.”Elara sat up slowly, meeting his gaze without flinching. The go

The afternoon sun beat down on the training clearing as Elara moved through the forms Kael had taught her. Each strike came faster, stronger than the last. Her wolf was no longer a faint spark — it surged just beneath her skin, lending her speed and power she had never dreamed of possessing.Kael watched her with dark, unreadable eyes. His arms were crossed over his broad chest, but the tension in his shoulders betrayed how hard he was fighting to keep his distance.“You’re holding back less,” he noted, voice rough with approval. “Good. Again.”Elara spun and delivered a sharp kick toward his midsection. This time, Kael didn’t dodge completely. He caught her leg, yanking her forward until she collided against his hard body. Their faces were inches apart, breaths mingling.“Better,” he murmured, his hand sliding slowly down her thigh before releasing her. “But still not fast enough to survive what’s coming.”Before Elara could ask what he meant, a young delta runner burst into the priv

The next morning, Elara woke up tangled in black silk sheets that smelled entirely of Kael. Her body still hummed with unresolved tension from the night before. The memory of his hard body pinning her against the wall, his mouth claiming hers with brutal hunger, and the way his fingers had teased so close to where she ached most — it all rushed back in vivid detail. She groaned and pressed her face into the pillow, trying to smother the heat rising in her cheeks.A sharp knock sounded on the door before it swung open.Kael stepped inside wearing black training pants and a tight gray shirt that clung to every ridge of muscle. His silver eyes immediately found her on the bed, darkening for a brief second before he masked it.“Get up,” he ordered. “You’re training with me today.”Elara sat up, pulling the sheet higher over her chest. “Training? I’m wolfless, remember? Your words, not mine.”Kael’s jaw tightened. “Not anymore. Something’s changing. I felt it last night when I touched you

Elara paced the spacious bedroom like a caged animal.Hours had passed since Kael locked her inside. The heavy wooden door refused to budge no matter how hard she pulled or kicked. The windows were reinforced glass — beautiful but unbreakable. She was well and truly trapped in the Alpha’s private domain. The room smelled like him. Dark cedarwood, fresh rain, and raw masculine power. It clung to the black silk sheets, the leather armchair by the fireplace, and the oversized shirts hanging in the walk-in closet. Every breath she took reminded her of the man who had both rejected and rescued her.Her body ached from the night’s ordeal — scratches stinging on her arms and legs, feet raw from running. But worse than the physical pain was the fire building beneath her skin. The mate bond.Even torn and rejected, it refused to stay silent. It pulsed hotter with every passing minute, sending waves of uncomfortable heat through her veins. Her nipples had tightened into sensitive peaks against

Elara struggled weakly in Kael’s arms, but it was useless. His hold was like iron — unyielding, possessive, and far too gentle for someone who had publicly shattered her heart only hours ago.“Put me down,” she demanded, her voice hoarse from crying and running. Her fists pushed against the hard planes of his bare chest, but the contact only made her traitorous body react. Heat flared where her palms met his skin, the broken mate bond pulsing with painful awareness.Kael didn’t even glance at her. His silver eyes scanned the dark forest ahead as he carried her with effortless strength, his long strides eating up the distance back toward Shadowmoon territory.“I said put me down!” she repeated, louder this time.A low growl rumbled from his chest, vibrating against her side. “Be quiet, little omega. You’ve caused enough trouble tonight.”“Trouble?” Elara laughed bitterly, fresh tears stinging her eyes. “You rejected me in front of the entire pack. You called me weak and unworthy. And
