Himera

Derrick insisted that I spend the night in his room.

I didn't want to prove the common belief that girls tend to get clingy to the guy who breaks their virginity–and that because of that, guys tend to avoid them after popping their cherry. I didn't want him to start avoiding me, so I refused and asked him to escort me back to my dorm room.

A girl's gotta play it safe.

“Why are you smiling alone?” Wendy asks, startling me out of my thoughts about last night.

Himera The members of the council of elders walk into the small interview room one by one, making me shift slightly in my seat. I keep my eyes on the doorway, waiting for more people after the first four walk in, but nobody comes. I don't know whether I should offer a verbal greeting, bow, or kneel and roll over the floor to greet them. Their presence is intimidating. Elliot brought me here right after breakfast, and I've been waiting for ten minutes. Give or take. “Goo… Goodmorning,” I manage to say, glancing at the thick-faced man seated directly across from me before quickly dropping my eyes to the floor. “Goodmorning,” he replies, his face stiff and unreadable. Too stiff for my liking. Since nobody else returns my greeting, I go on to greet the man beside him, and the next, before bringing my gaze to the woman on his other side. They respond. My whole life, I thought females could never be members of the council of elders, but this board right here proves me wrong

  • Bound To My Enemy And His Brother    Chapter Eleven

ElliotIt's an hour over lunch at the office, and as I look over some papers from the farmlands, my mind struggles to focus. Somehow, Himera has followed me here, even though I left her in my bed hours ago. I can't seem to stop thinking about her, especially about last night. She wanted me to mark her, I could tell despite her attempts to suppress it, but I held back. I couldn't do it without agreeing on the matter with my brother. Thinking about him reminds me of what he did–walking in on me and Himera and staying until he got a release from the sight. That was insane. He's never done that. But a full moon does something to shifters, so I blame it on that.Still, he could have walked out and gotten help from his girlfriend, Cassandra. He's been fucking her for five years, after all. And a part of me thinks she's the reason he's delaying to mark our mate.Despite claiming many times that he doesn't love her, she has an effect on him that I can't quite explain. Or maybe he just doesn

  • Bound To My Enemy And His Brother    Chapter Ten

HimeraAs Elliot and I came last night, Derrick came into his palm before pushing his cock back into his pants. And before Elliot could pull out of me, he was gone.Too spent and sleepy to talk, I let Elliot guide me to his king-sized bed, where he pulled me into his arms and held me until I drifted off. Between then and now, we've had more rounds of dirty, passionate sex–three or four, if my memory serves me right.I sit up in his bed, frowning when I don't find him beside me. My eyes land on a note sitting on his nightstand, and I hesitantly reach for it.According to the messy handwriting, he’s gone to his office and will see me later.A knock sounds at the door, and I jump out of bed, quickly slipping my dress on before heading to answer it.“Hi,” I say to the chef who is standing there with a tray. “I was just heading out, and Elliot isn't here.”“He asked me to bring you breakfast here if I didn't find you in your room,” he explains. “Oh,” I murmur, surprised.“May I?” He asks.

  • Bound To My Enemy And His Brother    Chapter Nine

HimeraI head down to the living area where kids are gathered, watching a cartoon.“Hello, little bunnies,” I interrupt, waving at them with both hands. “Can I join you?”“Yes!” A few of them reply in unison, while others keep their eyes glued to the TV.I find an empty space on the couch and start to watch with them.I could go to the adults’ theater to watch something more mature, but I choose to be here with the kids for a reason. If I'm going to stay here longer and get back at Cassandra, I'll need to earn a place for myself in the pack first. And what better way to start than to get the kids to like me?I'm good with children, after all. I taught pre-scholars in my pack during my gap year.About thirty minutes in, the little girl seated on my right drops her head into my lap and falls asleep. I lift her gently, settling her more comfortably against me.“She's asleep,” a young woman says, tiptoeing across the room.“Yeah,” I whisper, careful not to disturb the others. She stretche

The smile creeps back, and heat crawls up my cheeks.“Oh my gosh, you did,” she squeals, scooting closer to me on the bed. Before I know it, she's under the sheets beside me, her eyes shining with curiosity.“Come on, Mera,” she presses. “Tell me.

  • Bound To My Enemy And His Brother    Chapter Seven

HimeraWhen Elliot asked me to explain why I was carrying a duffel bag with some of my belongings if all I wanted to do was skate, I told him I needed to rest, and he stormed out of the room. I've only known him a few days, but I've never seen him as angry as he was in that moment.I didn't lie to him, though. I did need to rest. I drifted off just minutes after he left, and I woke up only a short while ago.I've been asleep for a little over an hour. Carefully, I roll out of bed and walk to the ensuite. A bath might help, I smell like sweat and antiseptic. I turn on the shower, adjusting the temperature until it's right before standing under it. Despite the earlier bleeding, my elbow only sustained a minor cut, so it wasn't bandaged. Still, I wince every time water runs over it. Quickly, I wash up, do a bit of grooming, then dig through my travel bag for something to wear.I pull out a dress and slide into it. Just as I finish, there's a knock at the door.“Come in,” I say, alre
