Chapter two

Kaidon’s pov

Another full moon was coming up, it would soon be a night of unending torture.

A night that I would lose my sanity and the beast would take control.

It has been going on for two decades now, if only the moon goddess had not placed such a destiny on me.

“Tell me, priestess, what do you see?” A

The moon priestess glared at me through the dark veil covering her face.

Her eyes shone brighter than the moon itself.

“Am I going to die tonight?”

This was the question I ask every full moon.

Her eyes rolled into its socket as though she were in a trance.

“Not tonight, but you have to mark your mate before your thirtieth birthday, or you shall die.”

I have heard those sentences so many times before, but anytime she repeats it.

It's like everything comes tumbling down

I grabbed the edge of the table in between us.

“Tell me priestess, where can I find a mate that would be able to bear my markings without dying.”

“I don't know.” She said,

I slapped the cups that were arranged on the table, they crashed to the ground

The wines inside spilled like blood from a slaughtered neck

“Why does the moon goddess do this to me? Why place such a curse on me without offering a solution.”

“Be careful Alpha Kaidon, don't speak about the goddess in such a manner.”

“Fuck the goddess!” I thundered.

“Alpha Kaidon, you should not anger her.”

My body was oozing with so much anger at this point.

I have been trying for the last decade, no female has been able to withstand my marking

They just die on me, it doesn't take up to five minutes before they just slump and die.

“This is about Margaret, the goddess has,”

I raised my hands to silence the priestess.

“Do not talk about her, I don't want to hear it.”

My first mate and only love.

I did not want to Mark her, I never told her about the curse.

I knew that she'd be willing to make any sacrifice for me.

She convinced me to mark her. And on that night, she died in my arms.

Margaret was the only person that gave my life meaning.

Yet, the moon goddess did not care to spare her life.

That was in the past now, my heart has been locked and the key tossed into the bottomless ocean.

I blew hot air out of my nose.

“Richard!” I called my beta.

He appeared from behind me

“The yearly tributes, have they arrived?”

“Yes, alpha kaidon. The matron is preparing the females for tonight.”

“Good.”

Only a few people know about my curse.

The priestess, my beta and the matron that has looked after me since I was a young pup

The full moon was not yet in sight, if any of the women could bear my marking before it showed.

Then I won't have to suffer tonight.

“I'm sure the moon goddess will favour you tonight , Alpha. I have a good feeling about this set of tributes.”

I snorted at his comment, he always tries to sound positive whenever it was time.

I sat on my bed, waiting for the first female to be brought in.

I could sense her wolf through the door, whimpering and trembling at my aura.

Hmmmph.

This one won't last a minute.

Richard ushered her in, closed the door behind him.

She didn't move an inch from where she was.

A long sigh escaped my lungs as I rose to my full height.

“Let's get this over with.”

I haven't even touched her before she let out an ear piercing scream.

My wolf got so angry at the tantrum that we bashed her head against the door

Blood splattered as her flesh gushed out 

“Very irritating.” Kanan, my wolf growled

Richard opened the door quickly. He took one look at the dead girl with the bashed head

He covered his face with one hand and sucked his teeth

“Alpha, you need to learn to control your anger.”

“She was whining, and it pissed me off.”

He bent and dragged her lifeless body out of the room, 

“Make sure to clean my door as well, the wood is rare to find.”

I looked out the window, the cloud was beginning to move, an image of the moon came into view.

“Forget the door. Bring the next girl.”

Richard caught the urgency in my tone. He quickly went to fetch the next person and shoved her inside

She toppled further into the room and landed on her knees

Right in front of me, Kanan my wolf sneered in disgust.

I caught a sign of her trembling lips.

I caught her jaw in my fingers.

“Do not panic, it gets on my nerves.”

She gave a slow, understanding nod

As I began to undress her. She started crying, shouting for me to spare her life

I backed away in fury, I hate it when things get to this.

Now, I can't mark her in peace.

I was already hard down there, so I snatched her neck and threw her on the bed.

She flailed her arms and legs. Scratched with long nails

Her screams louder than the first female.

The moon came into full view through my bedroom window and reflected in my eyes.

I did not have time to spare.

I sank my canines into her neck and she went limp instantly.

I tapped her face, motionless eyes stared right back at me.

No, no, no

I clutched my chest, it felt like a hundred spears pierced my heart at once.

My head was filled with so much noise it could explode.

I staggered around the room, my body crashed against shelves and mirrors.

“Arghhhhhhhh.” I growled into the night

The beast was already taking control.

Claws were out and they scratched against the wall. A few minutes remained before the beast gained total control of my senses.

I staggered through the hallway into the secret passage, right on time to clamp the chains around my neck and feet and hands.

My bones cracked and twisted in the most horrendous way, eyes glowed red.

It was time, and I let the beast do it's thing.
