Chapter three

Bella's pov.

A good number of the female tributes were put into a single room for the night.

Two out of us were handpicked by the matron to be served to the Alpha from the night.

I wonder if that's how we'd be picked one after the other.

Loud screams drifted from the upper floor and the room was filled with frenzy.

It was definitely from those females that were chosen earlier.

Their screams came like from a nightmare, reaching for one's soul and wretching it.

With all the commotion and noise rising in the room, my brain was too mashed up to think of an escape.

I went to the only window of the room and pushed it open.

Below, I saw two guards carrying a stretcher, on a closer look I gasped in horror.

It was one of those girls that was taking out of the room earlier, I fell back inside, dazed by the ugly sight.

I won't stay here another second to be served to that cannibal alpha.

Barely a night here and he has killed the two women taken to him.

No one paid attention to me as I used my hands to search for the door lock.

Bless the goddess, it wasn't locked from the outside.

My bare feet brushed the cold marble floor.

I expected guards to be placed in front of our rooms to prevent escape.

There was none.

The mansion was pitch black, I could hear the sound of my own breathing.

It was either now or never, I have been presented with an opportunity to escape.

I used my fingertips to trace the wall as I hurried past the dark halls.

I had no clear picture of where I was heading to, all I knew was that I was looking for an exit.

The sound of footsteps approaching made my breath seize.

I flattened my body against the wall, hoping to merge with it.

“Make sure no one tries to escape like last time.”

He sounded so clear that I feared he was close to me.

What if they were already looking for me?

No, it would be too early, 

I heard footsteps coming back and my back pressed against hard wood.

It gave way behind me and I fell flat on my back, there was no way I could groan.

Damn it, a trap door.

It would give my presence away, I sprung to my feet despite the gnawing feeling at my bones.

The air was charged with an arid feeling.

Something kept telling me to go back.

There were two options, plunge into the darkness of this secret passageway, or face the guards once I step out.

I chose the former, with each steady step deeper my eyes got used to the darkness.

A loud and yet painful growl welcomed me.

My legs froze, the air grew thicker with danger.

Yet, I did not stop, it feels like the growl was calling me, begging me to get closer.

I listened to my heart, and the constant calling of the growl.

I could hear the sounds of chains clanging against steel, my heartbeat stopped at every clang

What I saw moved me to tears

A big white furry wolf, the biggest I have ever seen with red fury eyes, banging and straining against the silver collar and chains

My first instinct, was to save it.

It must have been locked up here by the cruel Alpha Kaidon.

It looked vicious, like it wants to tear me apart.

I shared in its pain, locked up and tortured.

I didn't think twice, I unlocked the barricade.

The beast charged, it's canine snapped in my face and I fell backwards.

My heart thudded against my ribcage violently.

“Shhhh, I have come to save you.” I whispered.

It gave a low whimper and shook its furry head.

It's growl became low as I worked on the locks of the chain.

“Don't worry, we'd escape this horrid place together.”

Damn it

The chains are too strong, an ordinary human like me can't do anything on it

My eyes rested on a hammer resting against the wall.

It was heavy, but I put my weight into it and smashed with all my might.

That first haul nearly drained me of my breath.

I didn't give up.

The first chain broke free, and I moved to the next.

Repeating the process and praying in my heart to the goddess that we don't get found.

Alas. The chains came off.

“Let's get out of here.” I beckoned to it

It snarled and jumped over me. The weight of the white furry beast pressed.

His fur spread across my skin.

Drool from it's mouth watered my face.

Yuk

It's cold nose touched my forehead, I saw in his eyes a sadness that I could not comprehend.

The body transformed, and a young man lay naked on top of me.

My body froze, I was terrified out of my wits, for a moment I thought it'll sink it's canine into my neck.

It just laid motionless on me.

From the sound of it, he had passed out, I could not see the face through the massive thick curls.

The goddess gave me an opportunity to escape this place, but I used it to save a sad beast.

There was still time on my hands.

I stepped out of the cage like prison, my heart couldn't take leaving him like that

If the Alpha sees him, he'd only get locked again.

I began dragging his naked body across the cold floor.

Taking the route which I used in getting in before.

Dragging him with me was a lot of work.

I kicked his soft body, he needs to wake up if we are to get out of here alive.

“Hey, hey, get up.”

Trying to get him awake was futile, he was out, unconscious.

I had totally forgotten about the guards that might be outside.

I searched for the trap door with my hands and exclaimed when I found it.

“Ahhh, there it is.”

Right outside the trap door, staring lasers at me like a witch.

The matron stood, fingers 

locked right in front of her dress.

“Escaping? I don't think so.”

I gulped down hard through my throat as the matron shouted.

“Guards, I found our escapee, lock her up.”
