In fact, Suki and Reynard had stayed out enjoying the party longer than either of them had planned, to the point where neither of them knew how many hours there were until morning. Arriving at their accommodation, the pair were both mentally exhausted, but physically seemed to be running off the adrenaline of the party. They had no idea how much sleep they would be able to get before having to awaken at a decent hour to ensure they don’t overstay their welcome. Suki sighed as she sat on the bed.“Tired?” Reynard smiled, unbuckling and removing his leather pauldron. She kicked off her shoes. “Tired of being in those heels all day,” she whined, massaging the base of her feet. He tittered, “Surely you’re sleepy also.” “Not really,” she said before yawning. “Well, maybe I was having too much fun with you to realise.”Reynard smiled before cracking his neck and slowly began to unlace his leather arm gauntlets with one hand. “Let me help you.” Back on he
“Oh,” Suki’s cheeks were on fire. “I… um.” “I only ask because if you were seeking before, perhaps you still are, and with my high ranking, perhaps you’d be willing to…” Hadeon cringed, feeling as awkward as Suki felt. Suki faltered, “That is very sweet of you to consider me, Hadeon, but I’m sorry I cannot accept. I’ve experienced the bond.” His shoulders slumped slightly as he stepped back, giving a faint and obviously fake smile. “That’s okay, not a problem. Of course, someone as charming as you must have easily found your true mate.” “I’m sorry–”“Don’t be!” he tittered. “Honestly, I’m not offended, promise. Can you blame me for trying my luck? Like, what are the chances that someone high-ranked, kind and beautiful is searching for a mate, with or without a bond?” She shook her head. “No, I understand completely. I’m flattered, truly.” For a moment, there was a chilling silence, with tension so thick it could be cut with a knife.Trying to break away that tension, Hadeon spok
At first, Suki felt at a loss for words. It was surreal how similar Hadeon looked and sounded to his brother. She felt almost as intimidated by him as she did around Brendan. She pushed herself off the wall and gave him a shallow bow of her head. “Lovely to see you again, sir.” Hadeon laughed, “Oh, Suki, please. I’m not much older than you – what, like 4 or 5 years? You can skip the formalities with me. Call me Hadeon.” Suki nodded. “Of course.” He stepped closer to her, watching her carefully as he pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket. Opening the pack, he offered it to her, “Smoke?” “No, thank you,” she cleared her throat, “my father would murder me if I smoked. Plus, I’m not a fan of the smell.” She tapped the tip of her nose before leaning against the edge of the brick wall. A soft scoff escaped his lips as he put the pack away. “Ah, of course, enhanced senses can be such a bitch.” “You’re not going to smoke?” she asked, looking at him puzzled. He moved closer to
A heaviness grew in Suki’s chest. “Wipe out… the werewolf race?” She looked to Reynard, who was already looking at her, equally concerned. Reynard discreetly took hold of her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. “How did you come to this theory?” she breathed. “It’s difficult not to when a vast number of humans infiltrated my pack – one of the most secluded packs of all. They broke into it and did all that they did to leave us with the traumatic scars that we’ll never forget.” Alpha Conri looked out of the window, admiring the people of his pack far in the distance. He sighed, “Look, I could be wrong – hell – I hope I am wrong, but what you may not realise is, right after the attack on Nighttide, word of the seer’s vision began to spread.” He looked at Suki with a calmer expression, laced with hurt and concern for his people. “You can’t help but assume it’s connected, don’t you think so?”Suki nodded. “I would assume that too.” “We managed to eliminate the majority of them, but some
Suki’s world became still as the traumas of Brendan’s past began replaying in her mind like a horror movie; the visuals of his home pack and his own brother standing right in front of her made the story that much more vivid than before. Blindly gaping at Hadeon, Suki hadn’t even realised she was staring at him so intensely. Luckily, Reynard had noticed before Hadeon became suspicious and nudged Suki. She shook her head and grabbed his hand swiftly. “Sorry, I’m mesmerised by your home, it’s beautiful. You said your name was… Hadeon?” “Yes, Hadeon Ateos,” he said, giving a more present smile. His smile was almost as beautiful as Brendan’s. It was obviously their good looks ran in the family. Suki swallowed, suppressing her wandering mind. “It’s a pleasure to meet you. Thank you for allowing us to be guests in your pack.” Hadeon chuckled, “You can thank Alpha Conri when you meet with him later. I’ll take it from here, Talon.” Talon huffed, “You know I was told not to leave their s
“Are you ready for this?” Reynard asked. Suki shook her head, blinking herself out of her endless spiral of overthinking. “Huh, what?” Scanning her surroundings, she realised the car had stopped dead in the middle of the forest – all that surrounded them were an abundance of trees.Reynard squeezed her hand and smiled faintly. “We need to get out of the car here,” he said before exiting the vehicle. He sped around to the other side to open her door, taking her hand to guide her out. “Thank you,” she smiled at him, but it faded as she looked around once more, confused. “This doesn’t look like the picture from my research, there are no shadowy walls or anything! Where are we?”“A few miles away from the borders of Nighttide,” an unknown voice called out behind them. Startled, Suki turned to the voice to see various guards approaching them. Their fighting leathers appeared different to the ones she was used to seeing; they were more compact and sturdy; there was also a lack of defini
