chapter 3

The morning rays poured into the room as she stirred, she rubbed her eyes gently and stood from the bed— Mira was snoring away beside her. She smiled as she watched her.

“You're awake” she heard Zach say, she turned to see him huddled in the arms of a guy who was sleeping soundly “he's my boyfriend” Zach whispered.

She nodded and tried moving but mistakingly tripped over a cup making Mira stir, when she turned she was wide awake she jumped in fright.

“Jessz you scared me” she said clutching her chest.

“For someone who almost died last night you're really strong” Mira snorted.

“Died?”

Mira turned to Zach “Zach tell her”

“Well.. you didn't actually die Mira is just annoyed she couldn't get laid yesterday cause of your mess”

“Zachhh seriously…”

“Girl I gotta tell the truth..you and I know that you didn't get laid with Denise because unfortunately she was almost killed”

“No that's not it”

“Yes thats it”

They both begin to banter leaving Ava to watch them — she stood there watching as they bickered till the bell rung interrupting them.

“Oh shit”. They both gasped — Zach quickly woke his boyfriend up.

“Where are they going” Ava asked.

“Its a school for Christs sake it fucking has rules they can't stay here they are boys even if Zach is a girl”.

“That's not fair” Zach sneered.

“Well I ain't the one getting my ass popped by some nigga” Mira resorted, they bothe stuck out their tongue at each other and they boys hurried out of the room.

“Is this really necessary” Ava asked, trying to keep up with miras steps.

“Of course it is Ava we need to attend lectures over here”.

“But it's”

“It is Ava, you screwed up my yesterday and today the seniors are teaching so yes i want to go see Denise”.

Ava stopped and laughed “I just knew it”

Mira laughed too “ but for real though, you look crazy wearing all back”.

“Thanks for your advice but I feel comfortable”.

Mira nodded and slide into class she joined her, shed tried asking about the nights incident but Zach and Mira seemed to make it and off topic.

“We are going to be starting with our newest member in the class today, Ava Sinclair”.

“Me?”

“Yes you..tell us about you” the senior said with a smile.

She stood up and walked over to the front of the class room, she tugged on her sleeves nervously.

“I'm Ava Sinclair”

“We know” a rude girl at the back interrupted earning a disapproving stare from the senior.

“I've got five abilities” she continued and the whole class gasped.

🗣️ Five abilities, no way shes lieing.

🗣️ Shes either trying to pull another stunt or…

🗣️ I bet on my dinner she definitely is a attention seeker.

“Quiet” the senior slapped his hand on the desk bringing the class to order.

Ava exhaled, the rude girl stood up and spoke before she could

“ she's definitely lieing to us everyone here knows it's only the top 1 whose got 7 abilities even the top 9 and 20 are left with 3 or 4”.

Ava groaned she could feel her powers scorching through she tried to control it but the girls continuous talk wouldn't let her.

“Silence” she barked, the girls mouth shut, no matter how much she tried talking she couldn't. The class gasped, even the senior wasn't left out his mouth fell open he was the only student in the academy gifted with that power and now someone had it.

“Impressive” the senior said “ now undo it”

“I..I…can't” she stuttered.

The class erupted in laughter, anyone who could administer an ability but fail to undo it was considered a failure.

“Channel your inner energy, let your spirit flow with your words and you'll get it” the senior encouraged.

She closed her eye, feeling herself evolve then she felt the same surge again.

“Talk” she said.

And the girls mouth was freed the class erupted in applause now, she smiled proudly and hurried back to her seat, Mira by her side kept winking at Denise who stood at the front row helping students master their abilities. Ava chuckled, she smiled and reached for her necklace trying to communicate with her brother— her hands searched for it but it was nowhere to be found.

She could only stay quiet and pretend to enjoy the lectures while silently praying for it to end.
