Alpha Liam

Jane, the same girl that ease my pain was the same girl that knows how to get on my nerves. I don't know how it works but it just does. She was always on my mind, disturbing my thoughts.

Since the first time I met her at the festival, I couldn't just stop thinking about her. She was just a maid. That’s what I told myself. A wolfless, discarded nobody from a pack that couldn’t wait to get rid of her.

But whenever she touched me, whenever her body pressed into mine, something inside me reacted. I don't know what it was but I knew it wasn't ordinary.

And that damn coffee… It tasted like something I had tasted before. The taste brought back something I thought I had forgotten. It was the same as alpha Lucie’s wife. She gave us the special coffee while the fathers had their meetings.

How did Jane get the recipe? Who is she and what does her past hold? She even reacted to the secret book. I could feel it in my blood that something was different, both her present and her past.

But I wasn't ready to admit it. Why would I even admit it when the damn curse is to be blamed. The pain in my chest made me notice her. The desperation to be cured made me buy her.

if it's not for my weak heart craving for something soft, I wouldn't even look at her twice. She wouldn't even breathe the same air as me. So whatever I was feeling, the curse is to be blamed.

I looked at the book again and I remember why I hid it in the first place. The book contains the truth but at the same time incomplete. It was turned from a greater truth and even with my power, I couldn't read what was in it.

But Jane felt something when she touched it. With annoyance, I shoved the book into the locked drawer at the corner of my desk, turning the key with a sharp snap.

“Alpha,” Josephine’s voice came gently from the door.

“I don't want to talk, Josephine.” I said without looking at her.

“I understand,” she said, stepping in carefully, “but the elders are here. They’ve been waiting.”

“Tell them to leave,” I said, my voice harsher than intended.

“That wouldn’t be wise, Alpha. You summoned them two days ago, remember? They came a long way, you can't just dismiss them.”

I finally looked up, meeting her gaze. This old woman as a way of making me obedient. After I lost my mother, she was the closest to a mother. I didn't let it be known but I really respect and appreciate her a lot and she knows it.

“They’ll have to wait until tomorrow,” I said.

She raised an eyebrow. “With respect, Alpha, the elders are not people you should push around. You have to see them today.”

I didn’t want to deal with those elders. Their voices were like wind rustling dry leaves. They were always speaking, never saying anything worth hearing. But Josephine was right, if I kept avoiding them, they’d take that silence and twist it into weakness.

I stared at the locked drawer for a long moment before I finally stood. I couldn’t afford to show any sign of weakness. Not when the election is right in the corner.

“Go, Josephine. I'll see them.” I said and she left without saying a word.

By the time I stepped out into the hall, I had buried the thoughts of Jane and the book behind my mind. My footsteps echoed through the corridor announcing my approach before I entered the meeting room.

They were already seated, the seven of them, dressed in their ceremonial robes, their eyes filled with quiet judgment.

“Finally,” Elder Marius said, not bothering to mask his irritation. “The Alpha graces us with his presence.”

I said nothing as I took my seat at the head of the long table.

“We were summoned days ago,” Elder Ansel added. “Yet you kept us waiting without explanation.”

“You’re not the only ones with responsibilities,” I replied coolly.

Murmurs rippled among them, but it was Elder Thom who leaned forward, cutting through the noise. “It’s not just the delay, Alpha Liam. It’s everything. Your silence, your attitude and your recklessness.”

I lifted a brow. “Recklessness?”

“Yes,” Elder Thom pressed. “You bought a rejected maid during the festival. You even brought her into the castle. What message does that send to the other packs? To the council?”

“She is of no consequence to your politics,” I said.

“She is wolfless,” Elder Marius snapped. “A servant cast out by her own pack. And now she shares walls with our Alpha? People are talking.”

‘Let them talk,’ I wanted to say but I kept that to myself.

“She will not disrupt anything,” I said instead. “She’s under my authority and control.”

“Your authority has become unpredictable, Liam,” Elder Ansel said. “You are young and strong, but this pack needs stability, not impulsive decisions driven by whatever whims strike you in the night.”

I slowly leaned back in my chair, letting their words settle. They thought they were guiding me but they forgot who I was.

“The election is coming, Liam.” Elder Thom added.

“If you believe I can no longer lead you,” I said, my voice low and sharp, “then withdraw your support.”

Elder Thom blinked. “What are you saying?”

“I’m saying,” I continued, “that if your trust in me depends on how many council-approved maids I keep under my roof… or how long I make you wait for an audience then perhaps your loyalty was never to me in the first place.”

They shifted in their seats, looking uneasy.

“I will not be questioned every time I make a decision. Not by those who stood by when I lost my parents. Not by those who don't know half of the shit I go through in private.”

My gaze swept across them. “If you really want answers, I will tell you now. She is here for a reason. And that reason is mine to know.”

A wake of silence fell upon them. Marius opened his mouth, then closed it again. Thom narrowed his eyes, but didn’t speak.

Good.

They didn’t need to understand. They only needed to remember who held the throne.

“Now,” I said calmly, “unless you’ve anything important to say, this meeting is over.”

And with that, I stood and walked out, leaving their silence behind me.

Let them be angry, let them whisper, it is none of my business. They are not the one carrying the curse around. They don't even care if I'm well or not. All their concern is their political ambitions and space for their children at the top.

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

Jane “You are a curse in human form,” his words were still ringing in my head as I sat on the edge of my bed. Night came so fast and I was supposed to go to him. But I couldn’t go, not after what he said. He wants me to stay away from him after telling me I was his pain relief. What kind of a weirdo was he? He called me a curse. His words clutched my chest tightly. If he saw me as a curse, why did he buy me from Alpha Theo? Why did he refer to me as his pain relief? When I thought I was starting to understand him, he insulted me and pushed me away. So I've decided not to go to him tonight. He can't push me away and expect me to draw to him again. Never. He might have bought me and save me from disgrace but his insults are more than I can bear. Lost in my thoughts, I didn’t expect the door to burst open. But it did. And the worst part was Alpha Liam strode in like a storm, his eyes blazing.“You didn’t come,” he said simply, like he couldn’t quite believe it.Shocked to see him,

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

JaneAs I walked through the hallway, my mind drifted to the old book I found in Alpha Liam's study. That book had something I should know. The way I reacted to that book was not ordinary. The way it seemed to hum in my veins. I needed to see it again. I needed to understand why it felt like a part of me. It could answer my questions, if not all of them. With determination, I went to his study again. I shouldn't have gone back there. But something kept pulling me there. I don't know if it was curiosity or a supernatural connection. The door creaked as I stepped inside. The scent of him still lingered in the air, strong with something darker. It felt like a warning but I didn't adhere to it. Instead, I moved swiftly. I moved toward the shelf where I’d first seen the burnt book, my fingers trembling as I reached for the stack. I searched through the first stack, then the second and found nothing. “It should be here,” I told myself as I searched through it again. “Looking for somet

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

JaneAs I stirred awake, I looked around me as the memories of last night flooded my mind. Alpha Liam! I jumped up to see him but to my greatest disappointment, I woke up alone.I was on the bed and the sheets beside me were cold. His scent lingered faintly in the air but the alpha was nowhere to be found.A sudden tightness gripped my chest. I wanted to know if he slept well. To know if his pain had relieved him. To hold him this morning if he still needed me to. But he left. He left before I woke up. I got up slowly, pulled on my dress, and stepped into the hallway. Because he didn't wake up beside me doesn't mean I can't check up on him in his room. So with determination, I went to his room. Another wave of disappointment washed over me when I got there. His room was empty, the fireplace was dying. Where would he be this morning?Maybe his study.I turned and made my way to his study, hoping he’d be there buried in books. But he wasn't there either. Where was he? I wondered as

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Alpha Liam

Alpha Liam's POV I woke before the sun did. Even before the birds started singing. Before anyone in the castle stirs awake. The room was still as I turned to the person beside me. Last night's event flooded my mind like a wave. My heart ache started, I dragged myself to Jane's room, I kissed her and slept beside her. Despite the storm in my mind, the room was too quiet. If not for the sound of her soft breathing beside me, I wouldn't have believed that last night happened. She was curled beside me, her head resting near my chest, her hand lightly over my shirt, as if it belonged there. And the most unsettling part was that it felt like it did. My heart, the most traitorous thing, beat more steadily than it had in months. The ache that usually clawed at my ribs during the night was gone. It was silenced all because she had touched and held me.I can't believe that I crawled back to her after doing everything in my power to stay away. I don't know why things just end up the way I d

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

Jane's POV I thought the dream had ended until something gripped my leg.It was hard and desperate. Tight enough to take me from the dream world to the real world. I jolted upright, screaming as my heart was still racing from the dream and the grip.As I opened my eyes, it was no longer smoke or fire that surrounded me. It was darkness. Real and heavy darkness. The type that blind your eyes and heart at once. Quickly, I turned on the lamp beside my bed. And there, at the edge of my bed, was a figure. My breath stopped as I saw Alpha Liam. He was on his knees, clutching my leg like an anchor, his face masked with pain. His whole body trembled slightly, and his muscles became tense. One of his arms was wrapped tightly around his chest, the other grasping my thigh as if I was the only thing keeping him grounded.“Jane,” he said, groaning. The low, ragged sounds pulled from his throat scared the hell out of me. The way his head hung down, the way he clutched his chest reminded me of

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

Jane's POV I stood in front of Alpha Liam’s door, my hand hovering over the handle. Should I go in? Would he want to see me after chasing me out like a dog? Was I ready to face him? To be honest, I was mad at him for yelling at me. One minute, he is normal, the next, he is abnormal. He acts like someone with bipolar issues. I turned the handle and stepped inside, bracing myself for whatever happens. He was already sitting on the edge of the bed, shirt half-buttoned, hair still damp from a shower. His eyes were on me the second I entered. Surprisingly, it was not cold or dark. It was like he was waiting for me to come.“I'm here to sleep with you,” I said without thinking. He patted the space beside him. “Sit.”Now he wants me to sit beside him. What is going on with this man? Did carrying the weight of a pack cause him to have a twisted brain?I hesitated for just a moment, then crossed the room and sat beside him, not too close, but close enough to feel the heat radiating from hi
