Jane

“You are a curse in human form,” his words were still ringing in my head as I sat on the edge of my bed.

Night came so fast and I was supposed to go to him. But I couldn’t go, not after what he said. He wants me to stay away from him after telling me I was his pain relief. What kind of a weirdo was he?

He called me a curse. His words clutched my chest tightly. If he saw me as a curse, why did he buy me from Alpha Theo? Why did he refer to me as his pain relief?

When I thought I was starting to understand him, he insulted me and pushed me away.

So I've decided not to go to him tonight. He can't push me away and expect me to draw to him again. Never. He might have bought me and save me from disgrace but his insults are more than I can bear.

Lost in my thoughts, I didn’t expect the door to burst open. But it did. And the worst part was Alpha Liam strode in like a storm, his eyes blazing.

“You didn’t come,” he said simply, like he couldn’t quite believe it.

Shocked to see him, I stood abruptly, lifting my chin. “I didn’t feel like it.”

His eyebrows twitched. “You didn't feel like it? The last time I checked, coming to me every night wasn’t a request. It was an order.”

“I know but I still have the right as a person to…” I started but he cut me off rudely.

“You don't have a right, Jane. Your right is to obey me,” he said, his voice dangerously low.

“And I’m not your pet,” I snapped without thinking.

The room seemed to freeze as my words bounced back on me. I shouldn't have snapped but I need. Now, I was waiting for the storm to explode.

His jaw tightened, and he crossed the space between us in long strides. The heat from him radiated, feeling the room with a suffocating tension.

He definitely wants to be the end of me… literally and figuratively.

“Oh, really?” he said, sarcasm lacing his voice. “You’ve got some guts tonight, Jane. Care to tell me where you got them?”

I didn't say anything at first. Instead, I dared myself to look into his eyes. His eyes shows the exact contrast of his words and behaviour. They was something about his eyes that made me lose my thinking ability.

Because why am I staring into his eyes without saying anything? Then the answer came, another rude response from him.

“I didn't buy you for silence, Jane,” he said with the same low voice that keeps sending shivers down my spine.

“You said you hated me,” I said, my voice trembling despite how hard I tried to keep it steady. “You said I was a curse in human form. So why should I come crawling back when you obviously don't want me around you?”

“I never asked you to crawl,” he spat.

“That's not the point,” I replied almost immediately.

“Your feelings are the last things I care about. Your work here is to be with me every night, irrespective of whatever happened. I should be your priority Jane, not yourself.”

“Why are you acting like I'm just a thing you acquired or should I say purchase?” I asked.

“Because I did. I bought you for a reason. And you must have forgotten already,” he answered without a ounce of remorse.

He wasn't even apologetic about his words. How can someone be so obnoxious and heartless? Sorry, his heart his curse. So he practically doesn't have one.

“I don't care if you bought me or not,” I said, trying to push pass him. But he moved faster. He grabbed me by the waist.

As his hand wrapped around my waist, my body screamed in protest. “Let me go!”

“I would never let you go,” he said as if he was making a promise and a threat at the same time. “And if you think you can talk back at me, I would teach you a lesson that would always remind you of your place.”

Before I could protest or wriggle free, everything happened so fast. He lifted me up, flung me over his shoulder like I weighed nothing.

“Who are you to treat me like this?” I screamed, beating my fists against his back, half angry, half dreaded through the rage. “Put me down!”

“Keep quiet!” He spat, already on the move.

“Put me down, already!” I screamed, ignoring his words.

“Shut the hell up, Jane,” he muttered, kicking his door open with one foot.

“Why would I keep quiet when…” I started but he lifted me again, making me choke on my words.

“Disobeying me has become your favourite thing to do. But I won't tolerate such behaviour from you. if I have to drag you to my bed every night, I will.”

“Liam…” I whined.

“Alpha Liam for you. I'm your new lord,” he spat as he moved swiftly into his room.

Fortunately for him and unfortunately for me, I saw no one. It was as if he cleared all the staff in the house. Only if someone had passed, maybe he would have dropped me. But no one did. Not even a shadow passed.

He tossed me gently onto his bed, the softness catching me as I scrambled upright, breathless and flustered. “I’m sorry and I'm not sorry to say that you're full of shit,” I said, still trying to catch my breath.

He smirked, peeling off his shirt. “And you’re stubborn.”

I turned my face away, my heart pounding, refusing to look at the muscles stretching beneath his skin. But I could feel his warmth as he slid in beside me.

“Sleep well, bunny,” he whispered against my ears.

“I can't say the same for you,” I spat.

“I like this feisty version of you but I can't promise it won't put you in trouble,” he said, adjusting the bed cover around him.

For a moment, I didn't say anything. Neither did he. I just sat there, wondering how I got myself involved with a bipolar Alpha. He hates me, now he likes a version of me. Why won't he like it when he is the cause of my rage?

Then I felt his hand on my wrist. Before I knew what he wanted to do, my back landed on the bed as he pulled my wrist.

Then a low whisper against my ear, “You make me forget the curse… even if just for a moment.”

I didn’t reply. I just turned to him, trying to confirm if he was the same person who called me a curse in human form.

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

JaneAs I walked through the hallway, my mind drifted to the old book I found in Alpha Liam's study. That book had something I should know. The way I reacted to that book was not ordinary. The way it seemed to hum in my veins. I needed to see it again. I needed to understand why it felt like a part of me. It could answer my questions, if not all of them. With determination, I went to his study again. I shouldn't have gone back there. But something kept pulling me there. I don't know if it was curiosity or a supernatural connection. The door creaked as I stepped inside. The scent of him still lingered in the air, strong with something darker. It felt like a warning but I didn't adhere to it. Instead, I moved swiftly. I moved toward the shelf where I’d first seen the burnt book, my fingers trembling as I reached for the stack. I searched through the first stack, then the second and found nothing. “It should be here,” I told myself as I searched through it again. “Looking for somet

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

JaneAs I stirred awake, I looked around me as the memories of last night flooded my mind. Alpha Liam! I jumped up to see him but to my greatest disappointment, I woke up alone.I was on the bed and the sheets beside me were cold. His scent lingered faintly in the air but the alpha was nowhere to be found.A sudden tightness gripped my chest. I wanted to know if he slept well. To know if his pain had relieved him. To hold him this morning if he still needed me to. But he left. He left before I woke up. I got up slowly, pulled on my dress, and stepped into the hallway. Because he didn't wake up beside me doesn't mean I can't check up on him in his room. So with determination, I went to his room. Another wave of disappointment washed over me when I got there. His room was empty, the fireplace was dying. Where would he be this morning?Maybe his study.I turned and made my way to his study, hoping he’d be there buried in books. But he wasn't there either. Where was he? I wondered as

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Alpha Liam

Alpha Liam's POV I woke before the sun did. Even before the birds started singing. Before anyone in the castle stirs awake. The room was still as I turned to the person beside me. Last night's event flooded my mind like a wave. My heart ache started, I dragged myself to Jane's room, I kissed her and slept beside her. Despite the storm in my mind, the room was too quiet. If not for the sound of her soft breathing beside me, I wouldn't have believed that last night happened. She was curled beside me, her head resting near my chest, her hand lightly over my shirt, as if it belonged there. And the most unsettling part was that it felt like it did. My heart, the most traitorous thing, beat more steadily than it had in months. The ache that usually clawed at my ribs during the night was gone. It was silenced all because she had touched and held me.I can't believe that I crawled back to her after doing everything in my power to stay away. I don't know why things just end up the way I d

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

Jane's POV I thought the dream had ended until something gripped my leg.It was hard and desperate. Tight enough to take me from the dream world to the real world. I jolted upright, screaming as my heart was still racing from the dream and the grip.As I opened my eyes, it was no longer smoke or fire that surrounded me. It was darkness. Real and heavy darkness. The type that blind your eyes and heart at once. Quickly, I turned on the lamp beside my bed. And there, at the edge of my bed, was a figure. My breath stopped as I saw Alpha Liam. He was on his knees, clutching my leg like an anchor, his face masked with pain. His whole body trembled slightly, and his muscles became tense. One of his arms was wrapped tightly around his chest, the other grasping my thigh as if I was the only thing keeping him grounded.“Jane,” he said, groaning. The low, ragged sounds pulled from his throat scared the hell out of me. The way his head hung down, the way he clutched his chest reminded me of

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

Jane's POV I stood in front of Alpha Liam’s door, my hand hovering over the handle. Should I go in? Would he want to see me after chasing me out like a dog? Was I ready to face him? To be honest, I was mad at him for yelling at me. One minute, he is normal, the next, he is abnormal. He acts like someone with bipolar issues. I turned the handle and stepped inside, bracing myself for whatever happens. He was already sitting on the edge of the bed, shirt half-buttoned, hair still damp from a shower. His eyes were on me the second I entered. Surprisingly, it was not cold or dark. It was like he was waiting for me to come.“I'm here to sleep with you,” I said without thinking. He patted the space beside him. “Sit.”Now he wants me to sit beside him. What is going on with this man? Did carrying the weight of a pack cause him to have a twisted brain?I hesitated for just a moment, then crossed the room and sat beside him, not too close, but close enough to feel the heat radiating from hi
