2. Millie

"I am Millie, I am seventeen years old why am I alone in this world? Why can't I find love? I know that I am worthy of love. Or at least that's what I keep telling myself. I sure hope to find love this year around." I write in my diary before grabbing my bag to go to a place where I know I could possibly find a job. A mental asylum. I found an ad in the paper asking for two kinds of help, cook and housekeeper. I am however a little bit frightened of doing this kind of work on a count that I'd be surrounded by a crazy people all day. Who knows what they are in for. How could I possibly be kept safe from danger? I live in a one room apartment but I have a neighbor who pays for my rent. A sweet old lady, she gets a big check every month so she would help me out with the rent and groceries. I would try to come in with some sort of money and I would also try to help her out.

I turned to lok at the clock over on my stove to see that it was now seven thirty in the morning. I got dressed in some jeans and a long white shirt with a blue sweater since it was freezing cold outside. I left my apartment locking it before going down the hall and into the lobby then the front doors. I live in the second floor of the apartment building I live in. Its nothing fancy or nice but it's home for me unitll I can afford somewhere else to live. I walk outside into the freezing chill air with what little bit of cash I had in my pocket I sat on the bench for the bus. The bus came around twenty minutes. I got on and paid the man what little bit of money I had which he excepted. I told him that I was headed for the mental asylum.

"Why are you headed there sweetie? You are so young." He said with a yellowish grin. "I'm going to try and get a job there." I said with a smile. "I love to help others and I figured why not try there?" "Oh, that's nice but be very careful. There are soem real sick people there." He said trying to sound sincere yet strong. I just nodded my head and put in my ear buds to listen to my music. Wihtin about thirty minutes we had arrived at the asylum. Not a lot of peopler were on the bus this time. But who knows, that could change each day. I got off the bus thanking the driver for his help and I walked inside the asylum which was massive. Some patients were outside in wheelchairs and such but not without a nurse there to keep a close eye on them. When I walked in there were guards at the front. They stopped me to ask what I was doing there. I told them why I was there and they had let me pass.

I walked up the stairs patients all around but no to where they could touch me. I was a bit frightened but I just buried that down and went to the office. As I was heading up there I tripped an fell over someone. "I'm so sorry." I said quickly getting up to my feet seeing a handsome guard getting up. "No, it's my fault I was trying to get something and I got in your way." He said with a cute smile.

The guard had brown hair, green eyes, and was adorable. He wa also handsome. "My name is Millie, I am hoping to get a job here as a housekeeper."" I said shaking his hand. "Interesting, my name is Martin. Maybe Ill be guarding you i you get the job." He said smiling. "Yeah maybe." I said smiling and giggling a bit nervously. "How bout I walk you to the office since you look like you need protection." He said placing his hand on my upper back guiding me to the other side of the hall. "What's going on?" I asked. Before I could get an answer. I saw him. The cannibal patient, although at the time I did not know that he wa a cannibal. A nurse, two guards and another nurse were walking with this man who had a muzzle on his face and hi body in a straight jacket. He looked at me and then he winked. At me? He winked? I was wondering who was before Martin started to gently guide me away from this guy and the people he had around him.

"Just um, ignore him and them, let's get you down to that office." He said trying to not act like as if I hadn't noticed something bad was there. "Who is he?" I asked. "Oh uh, just a patient." I looked down thinking for a moment before asking him the question I was scared to hear the answer to. "What's the muzzle for?" "It's to keep him from biting other people." When Martin said that I began to laugh thinking it was a joke but then I saw Martin's face he wasn't being funny. "Oh Martin, you mean he's a cannibal?" "Yes he is." Hearing those words  made me fear working here even more now. "Don't worry Millie, the boss is pretty cool. Here is the office good luck and I'll be out here down the stairs waiting for you. I'll escort you out to keep you safe." I waved at Martin as he walked down the stairs. I entered inside the small office to see a lady sitting at the front desk named Sherry.

"May I help you?' She aked politely. "Um yes, I m here to answer the ad for the housekeeping position?" I said trying to sound confident. "Ah yes, let me get Mr. Baxter in here." After she called him, Mr. Baxter came out he was a big man, wit ha big belly and a smoker's breath. He looked tired, his eyes red and watery, his hair and mustache all greasy like. He reeked of sweat and cigarette and I couldn't stand the smell of him. However, I was here to get hired for a job that I desperately needed, so I ignored it and followed him into his office which was also smelled like a disgusting barn. "You are here for the position of housekeeping I presume?" He asked sitting down behind his desk which was buried with paper work. In fact his entire office was kind of a pig sty. It was gross, and the blinds to his windows were open about halfway which let in some sunlight which showed off the cigarette smoke that floated around is office.

"Sorry about the mess and smell dear, working in an asylum isn't an easy job, nor is running one." I waved it off as if I wasn't even bothered by it when I actually was. "I understand Mr. Baxter." I said with a warm smile. "You have any experience?" He asked not looking at me much. "Well I have worked for my neighbors in my apartment cleaning and cooking for the elderly when they needed it or young mothers who needed the help. Does that count?" I asked with a bit of humor to try and make him smile since it looked like he could use a smile for himself.

He smiled and nodded his head. "I suppose it would help you out here. I don't need anyone too serious dear. Just need someone who's willing to do work but you will never be alone with a patient for your own safety and protection." "I understand, One of your guards named Martin  said he would be willing to protect me." "Ah yes him, he is our best guard." Mr. Baxter spoke with a bit of a smirk.

After a bit of taling with Mr. Baxter, I was happy to be told that I got the job. I thanked him and I left the office I would be starting tomorrow early like around eight. Martin was down the stairs as promised "Well?" He asked with a smile. "I got the job." I said with excitment. "That's great. What time do you start?" He asked. "I'll be starting tomorrow morning around eight." I said smiling at him. "Ok great, I'll be here waiting then." As Martin escorted me out of the asylum we came across that same cannibal guy and he winked at me again. I got the chills after. Martin walked me out past the asylum and to the bus stop. The bus that had brought me here was waiting for me. I got on and told the same driver that I had gotten the job. He congratulated me and soon I was home.

I got inside my apartment locking the door and the only window I had in the apartment was over by the table I had in the dining area. Sometiems I would be up during the night checking the locks on the door and window. When you walked into my apartment you have the kitchen to the left then the bathroom at the corner of the room and to your right there's m bed and couch with a tv. There wasn't a bedroom or anything like that so I sleep on my bed in here. But this apartment is cozy and I kept the lights on while I covered up and went to take a nap.
