CHAPTER 43: SHOPPING

REAH'S POV 

Staring at the countless papers on the ground, I felt a deep ache in my heart. I checked my time and realized it was only one hour to Lunch period which I was planning to use with Joyce but looking at the papers on the ground, I doubted I would be able to finish it in two hours even if I tried my total best. 

I looked at him, pondering what to do but then again, standing was wasting more time so I decided to get to it. I had taken the nutrients which in turn gave me the confidence that my child wouldn't be easily hurt. 

I started arranging the papers, picking them according to dates, relevance and categories. Some talked only about one product and needed to be placed together, some might be about hotels, which must be placed together. Like that, I arranged the papers as quickly as I could. 

Not long after, my phone started ringing and when I looked at the caller, I was surprised to see that it was an unknown number. I hesitated a bit but still decided to answer the call "Hello?" I said. I placed the call on loudspeaker and dropped the phone so I could continue my job. 

"Hello, Reah. This is Louis," The cheerful voice came over the phone and instinctively, I looked at Alpha Xavier, who had immediately turned to look at me after he heard the voice.

"Gamma Louis?" I asked, still in disbelief and fear also slowly gripped my heart. What would Alpha Xavier do to me if he thought I had a nameless relationship with his friend?

"Yes, It's already Lunch period in the company and I happen to be less busy too. I want to ask that if you don't mind, can I come take you out for lunch?" He asked and my heart sank even deeper. 

What was he doing?!

"I have an appointment this afternoon, Gamma. I won't be able to accompany you to any restaurant," I replied and before he could say more, I ended the call and let out a deep breath. 

I looked at Alpha Xavier who was still staring back at me "You were the lady Louis fell in love with at first sight?" He seemed to be slightly surprised. 

Huh?

"Yes, I am," I replied, lowering my eyes to continue working even though my heart was restless. 

"Wow!" 

Wow?

With that "wow", he never said a word again and I felt disappointed. Wasn't it natural for someone to get jealous when another man called their wife around them and asked them out?

It was obvious Alpha Xavier never saw me as a wife to begin with and he had no concern with whatever I did with my body. 

I let out a deep breath and continued working. I should be used to this, I should have known that he did not care about me. 

An hour later, I picked up the last stack of paper and placed them on his desk. I wiped the sweat on my forehead and dusted my hands as I picked up my phone from the ground. "I'm done, Alpha. I will take my leave now," I told him. 

Joyce would have been waiting for me for a while already and I knew that the only reason she wasn't calling was because she was quite scared of Alpha Xavier. 

He did not even bother to reply to me as he just continued pressing his phone without even raising his eyes. I sighed for the tenth time in two hours and turned around to leave. 

I had just gotten to the door and was about to open it when he cleared his throat and I froze "You can do whatever you want with Louis but let it be after you've given birth to my child, okay? I don't want you contaminating my kid with your filthy ways," He warned. 

I turned around to look at him but he was no longer looking at me and my eyes twitched. I felt so angry that I gritted my teeth to not curse him.

He was rude and unreasonable. He could have just kept quiet if he had nothing to say, must he always talk down to me whenever he opened his mouth?

I bit my lower lip to suppress my anger and walked out of his office. 

"Reah!" Joyce's voice broke the silence the moment I got out of the office and she rushed over. "I've been waiting for a while already. I wondered what you were doing in there but seeing your face at the moment..." Joyce said and winked. There was a knowing smile on her face that made me feel apprehensive. 

"What do you mean? What happened to my face?" I had no idea what could have happened to my face...

Joyce covered her mouth and chuckled "A red face and sweat. You don't need to worry anymore, bestie. You are the luckiest girl on earth. You can do it anywhere and any time of the day. Oh! I'm so jealous!" Joyce cried as she slapped her heart mercilessly. "When will I find my love too?" She lamented and dragged my hand "We should quickly leave. I heard that handsome dude telling you earlier that the break is just an hour and you've used it all in there," She complained again. 

I let her drag me to my desk and I started packing my things. Fryster wasn't there but I did not bother to ask Joyce about him because I knew he wouldn't tell her. 

I got my things and decided to go look for him in the canteen and as expected, he was there getting some lunch. 

His eyes brightened when he saw me and he waved at me "Seeing that you had a lot to do, I decided to help with your lunch. This is for you," He handed the bag he had on him to me. 

"What about yours?" I was deeply moved and asked. 

He shrugged, "I don't like the food here," He simply replied.
