AURORA'S POV
The house smelled faintly of lilies.
The same ones that had been placed over my sister’s coffin, Sarah.
Her dead wolf’s scent was now faint everywhere and the corners of the pack house that used to echo with laughter now felt empty.
We had just returned from the burial. The soil was still fresh on our shoes and the sky was still dark. My mother’s veil was soaked from the drizzle that began the moment they lowered the coffin into the ground.
No one spoke when we entered the pack house not until when my father, the Alpha entered inside.
He tossed his coat onto the sofa, his expression cold and composed, as though the funeral had been nothing.
"Aurora ....",
“We just buried her, Kane, please, not now. Not this conversation again.” As soon as my father started, my mother immediately cut him shot in mid sentence. She was standing by the doorway, her trembling hands gripping the edge of the table.
“This conversation is long overdue,” My father turned slowly toward my mother, his face calm in the way that frightened me most.
“We both know why she did it.”
My heart clenched at his words. I stared at him, shaking my head.
"She didn’t want to get married to him but still the agreement was already signed and we have to fulfill it, Aurora is going to replace her", My father spoke, point blank.
My mother gasped softly, clutching her chest. “kane. stop! How can you say that? She is not his mate, what will she do when her real mate comes", She cried but he ignored her.
"Aurora you going to get married on behalf of your sister", My father said, his tone flat and final,
My heart seemed to stop beating for a moment after listening to him and my knees buckled. My mother rushed forward, catching me before I hit the floor.
“Please, Dad. Please, not me” I cried out. I couldn’t take it anymore. My throat burned, my chest heaved, and every breath felt like swallowing fire.
“Aurora dear, you don’t have an option. I’ll destroy everything you have ever wanted. I’ll destroy your life if you don’t do this,” he said calmly.
“Kane, please. She’s all I have left. Haven’t you done enough? Haven’t we lost enough?”,
My mother stood between us then spoke with her voice trembling but firm.
“Lost enough? How are we going to rule this pack without his help. “The agreement was made, Clara. Alpha Dane gave us his warriors to protect this pack from the rogues. It’s done. Whether it was Sarah or Aurora doesn’t matter anymore. Our word must be kept.” His eyes flicked to her with irritation.
My mother’s lips parted in shock. “You can’t mean that. You can’t give her away too!” She stepped closer to him. “We just buried our daughter, Kane! You want to replace her with our last child? You’re not thinking straight!”
"I’m trying to protect this one before she follows the same path Clara.” My father retorted angrily.
“Protect her?” My mother’s voice cracked. “By selling her to a ruthless Alpha twice her age? To a criminal., he killed his own mate now he wants my little daughter", My mother spoke.
He didn’t answer. Instead, he poured himself a drink. The clink of the glass echoed in the silence, making the situation worse.
Everything was just a joke to him. I was a joke to him. My life, my happiness didn’t matter to him. Tears freely fell from my eyes as I shook my head, unable to accept what he was doing to me.
My mother moved towards to him again. “Please, don’t give our second daughter away. We don’t even know what happened to the first. Yes we saw the suicide note, Kane but it didn’t make sense! She was scared, but someone must have killed her!”
My father immediately slammed his glass down on the table after my mom's words. “She killed herself! Because she refused to do what was right for this pack!”
The sound made me flinch. My mother pressed her lips together to stifle a sob. She clutched my hand tightly as though she could protect me from him.
“Now, go and prepare your things Aurora , He will be here soon. So, you better look presentable for him,” he said.
My mother’s finger nails elongated and dug into my arm. She was pissed off but had nothing to do.
“Kane, no. Please, don’t make her do this.” She spoke but he turned away from her completely, not interested anymore.
“No, I won’t!” I shouted and that made him halt his movement. Anger and defiance were my last resort. He wouldn’t listen to my pleading.
“Shut up!” he roared, making me flinch.
“Please, she’s not ready,” my mother whispered, tears streaming down her face. “You’re pushing her to the same fate. Don’t you see? You’re killing her too.”
“Enough, Clara!” he barked. “He’s the well-feared Alpha. You will treat him with respect after the marriage. You will do whatever he wants you to do. He has already signed the papers and that makes him your husband. Learn to obey and respect your father!” he shouted, and I didn’t know what to say or do. I sat there on the floor lifelessly listening to him.
My mother’s sobs filled the room. She knelt before him, her pride forgotten. “Kane, please, I’m begging you. Don’t do this to her. I’ll find another way. I’ll talk to the Alpha",
He looked down at her coldly. “You think you can negotiate with Alphas like him? You think money can undo what’s already been signed? You should have learned by now that softness only brings ruin.”
“You’re not saving her, Kane. You’re delivering her to her grave.” Her voice faltered.
He didn’t respond. His silence said everything. I knew my father was a misogynistic, male chauvinistic jerk, but I never thought he hated us this much. We were from burying my sister but he didn’t care.
“Lock her again in her room.” He turned to the guards standing by the door.
I looked up at my mother one last time. Her lips quivered as she reached for me, but one of the guards held her back.
“Please, let me be with her. She’s my daughter... please!” They didn’t listen, they dragged me away, their hands rough against my arms and my mother’s voice faded behind the slammed door.
I was used to this.
My whole life, my whole existence I have been in this room, locked away whenever I annoyed my father.
When I finally returned to my room, it felt like stepping into someone else's life. The books on my shelf, the soft blanket, the moonlight pooling on the rug-it all belonged to a girl who thought her first shift meant freedom.
I sat on the bed, staring at nothing as I thought and planned.
What could I do? Where could I go?
Nowhere.
I had nowhere. But still I had to think.
A knock broke the silence.
"Miss?" a timid voice called. I recognized it, it was Elsie, one of the younger servants. Kind, but nervous. Always nervous.
"Your father says you're to come down for dinner."
Dinner. As if nothing had changed.
I didn't bother moving.
"Miss?" Elsie again, gentler. "He said… he said not to make him come get you."
That got me to my feet. My father didn't make idle threats.
I smoothed my dress with trembling hands, forcing my wolf to quiet. There would be a time to fight. But not tonight. Tonight, I needed to see the man they intended to bind me to.
"I'm coming," I responded.
The dining room doors were open when I arrived. The rich scent of roasted meat and herbs filled the air, so normal it felt wrong.
And then I saw him.
Alpha Dane sat at our table. That was enough to make me freeze.
.
Mackline held me steady under the water for a few more moments, her arms wrapped tightly around my waist as I trembled through the aftershocks. Then, with surprising strength, she reached behind me and turned off the shower. She scooped me up effortlessly, one arm under my knees and the other around my back, carrying my dripping, naked body out of the bathroom.I buried my face in her neck, still catching my breath, as she laid me gently on her bed. The sheets quickly grew damp beneath us, but neither of us cared. Mackline climbed in beside me and pulled me close, our bare bodies pressing together in a warm, intimate tangle. Her leg slid between mine, and I felt the soft brush of her hair covered pussy against my sensitive thigh as we settled. We lay there in silence for a while, just breathing, her fingers tracing slow circles on my back.“Aurora…” she finally whispered, her voice soft and serious against my hair. “Talk to me. What happened tonight? You came in here looking complete
“I don’t care,” I answered fiercely, the words tumbling out between ragged breaths. I kissed her again, harder this time, tasting the water on her lips. “I don’t care anymore. Let him find us. Let him see.” My voice cracked with raw need. “Touch me, Mackline. Please… I need you to touch me. I can’t feel like this alone right now.”She groaned softly, her resolve visibly cracking. Her hands roamed up my sides, sliding over the soaked fabric of my dress, thumbs brushing the underside of my breasts. “You’re going to destroy us both,” she murmured against my lips, but her voice had gone husky, thick with the same hunger I felt.“Then destroy me,” I begged, pressing my body fully against hers, the heat of her naked skin burning through my clothes. “I want you. Not him. Not anyone else. Just you. Make me forget everything else… please.”Mackline’s breathing grew heavier, matching mine. Her fingers dug into my waist as she kissed me back, slow at first, then deeper, more urgent. The last of h
Raymond’s footsteps faded down the hall, leaving only silence and the heavy scent of his dominance lingering in my room like smoke. I stood there shaking, fists still clenched so tight my nails bit into my palms. The words “slave like you” echoed in my skull, mixing with Carleigh’s cruel laughter and the shattering of glass from the dining hall.I couldn’t breathe. My mother. Tomorrow. I wasn't going to meet her. All because I finally snapped. The walls felt like they were closing in. Raymond’s house. Raymond’s rules. Raymond’s perfect new Luna waiting to take my place. I was suffocating.Mackline.Her name rose unbidden, sharp and desperate. The only person who had looked at me like I mattered. The only one who had touched me like I was wanted, not owned. Even after everything I’d said to her this morning… I needed her. I hated myself for it, but I needed her.I wiped my face roughly and slipped out of my room before I could think better of it. The hallway was dim and quiet. My bare f
The dinner began in the next minutes.Omegas filed in from a door near the kitchen, each carrying silver trays full with food. They moved silently, carefully, placing plates before the elders first, the high table then me last. A young omega with trembling hands set a plate before me, roasted meat, steamed vegetables and a small bowl of dark sauce. My stomach churned at the sight of it but I didn't touch my fork.Across the table, Raymond cut into his meat with practiced ease completely ignoring the fact that I was around. The she-wolf leaned into him, her shoulder brushing his as she reached for her wine glass. She laughed at something an elder called out from further down the table, a bright, tinkling sound that drew eyes.I didn't intervene in the conversation as the elders talked because no one talked about me or looked at me.Which I completely noted and ignored. The omegas came and went, refilling glasses, clearing empty plates, their eyes downcast. The elders ate and drank and t
I leaned against the closed door, my back pressed to the wood, and let out a breath I didn't know I'd been holding. The silence of the room wrapped around me like a blanket, heavy and suffocating all at once.Mackline hadn't followed me. I didn't know if that was a relief or not.The shower was the only place I could go where no one would follow. Where I could let the water drown out the noise in my head. I turned the handle as hot as I could stand it and stepped under the spray, hissing as the heat hit my skin.I scrubbed. Hard. My arms, my legs, my stomach, places Nigel had touched, places Mackline had touched, places I didn't want to think about anymore. The soap stung my eyes, and I welcomed it. At least that pain made sense. The bathroom filled with steam, and I stood there until my fingers pruned and the water started to run cold. I wanted to stay longer. I wanted to disappear down the drain and reform somewhere far away from here. But I couldn't.I stepped out and wrapped a towe
Before I could talk myself out of it, I was moving. My feet carried me out of the room, down the hallway, past the kitchen where I didn't look to see if Mackline was still there then followed the way that led to Raymon's office.Raymond was halfway down the stairs when I caught up to him."Raymond, wait."He stopped but didn't turn around. His hand rested on the wooden banister, knuckles white."I want to see my mother," I said, the words tumbling out before I lost my nerve. Now he turned. His gold eyes narrowed, studying my face like he was trying to decide if I was serious."What did you say?", He asked."I want to see my mother." My voice shook, but I forced myself to hold his gaze. "I haven't seen her since you took me to visit her. I don't know if she's okay. I don't know if she even knows I'm still alive. I want to see her again."Raymond was silent for a long moment. Then he descended the remaining stairs and walked toward the front door. I followed, my heart pounding."You thin
She quickly scrambled to her feet. That winning smile she had on earlier? Where has it gone? Her breath came in shallow, sharp pulls now; the arena lights caught the sweat at her temple and made her eyes look smaller. That easy, confident curve of her mouth had folded into a line of concentration a
"Wait," I shouted before they could drag her out of the room. For a split second nothing moved. The guards slowed as if someone had pressed a hand against the world. Raymond's eyes bored into mine and the smirk on his face widened."You want to speak?" he asked, voice soft enough that it should hav
Light slammed into my eyes, harsh as the guards dragged me out of the cell.My wrists stung where the leather had been knotted; my muscles trembled from hunger and grief and the aftershock of standing when I no longer trusted my legs but the ruthless guards didn't care. They shoved me down a corrid
I swallowed hard, my fingers tightening around the towel like it could shield me from her gaze. “Are you… just going to stand there?” I asked, voice higher than I intended.Mackline tilted her head, that same unshakable grin curling her lips. “Relax, just like i said before I have seen more naked b
