Kyra should have died the night her world was reduced to ash. Born into a powerful bloodline of fire witches, she watched her family fall—slaughtered by a king terrified of their magic. Scarred by flames and driven by vengeance, she returns to the kingdom years later, disguised beneath another face and hiding in plain sight as a palace servant. Her mission is simple: learn the king’s secrets and, when the time is right, strike. But fate has other plans. Prince Lucian is nothing like his father--- the king. Cursed as a werewolf, he has hidden his dark secret from the royal court for years. The only cure? A witch’s blood—Kyra’s blood. When Lucian meets Kyra, an unexpected bond ignites between them. He should be her greatest enemy, yet fate twists their paths together. For beneath her servant’s disguise, Kyra is no ordinary girl—she is the last of a fire-witch bloodline, bent on avenging her family by killing the king. When Lucian discovers her secret and her deadly mission, he doesn’t condemn her. Instead, he offers to help her, driven by his hatred for his father… and his growing love for her. But as their alliance deepens, a devastating truth emerges: the only way to end Lucian’s curse is through sacrifice—Kyra’s life or his own. Now, Kyra must face an impossible choice: save herself… or the man she loves.

Kyra's POV Chapter 1 – The Witch Hunt The bells of Kyrrath rang out like war drums in the night. The sky burned red, echoing with cries of the dying. Smoke from burning trees and homes mixed with the sharp stench of blood. Soldiers in black steel armor marched through the city, dragging witches from their homes—ripping them from their families. “Mercy, please..I’m not a witch, I—” “Shut your mouth, you cursed hag! You’ll burn before the moon rises!” Laughter followed, cruel and loud. “Ha! Ha! Ha!” I crouched in the shadows of my room, trembling, as they dragged my mother outside. My father and siblings were already dead. their blood soaked the stone floor beneath me. They poured vervain around the house. The poisonous mist crawled in, choking. My mother, barely conscious, couldn’t fight it. I wrapped cloth around my face, holding my breath as they pulled her toward the fire pit. I wanted to stop them. To burn them all. But even one breath of that poison would kill me. They tied her to the stake. Raised the torches. “No,” I whispered. I tried to run out, but a hand grabbed my arm. “No, Kyra!” Laura hissed. Blood streaked her face, but she was alive. “If you go out there, they’ll kill you too.” “But my mother- ” My voice cracked. Tears blurred everything as flames lit the sky. She screamed. Then...silence. Just like that, she was gone. My family, gone. I clenched my fists until blood dripped from my palms. “Kyra, I know it’s hard,” Laura whispered. “But we have to go. If we die here, so does our revenge. We survive. Or it’s over.” She was right. I was the last of the Flameborne. I would not let them snuff me out. Not tonight. We ran through the woods, feet pounding against the earth. My lungs burned. The vervain was still in me, I could feel it. But I didn’t stop. We found a half-collapsed cottage, hidden deep in the trees. “Let’s just… rest here,” Laura panted. “A few minutes. I can’t think.” "We can't stay long" I whispered, glancing nervously back the way we'd come." The soldiers could be close". "Just a few minutes" she said between gulps of air. " I don't think I can take another step right now". " Fine. just a few minutes" I said reluctantly, my voice trembling. Smoke still clung to my skin. My mind wouldn’t stop replaying it, my family, the screams, the fire. All because of him. King Zareth. Tyrant of Kyrrath. His decree had sealed our fate: burn every witch and their families. Even those who had never done harm. My mother. My aunt. Me. They called us monsters. But they were the ones with fire and steel. A sound broke the silence. Boots on dead leaves. My stomach dropped. “Aye! I know they’re out here,” a soldier’s voice cut through the woods. “Most of them inhaled the vervain. They won’t get far.” “Check the other side,” another barked. “I’ll take this way.” Laura and I froze. “What do we do?” I whispered. “I-I don’t know…” she wiped her brow, shaking. “We sneak out the back. Quietly. Then we run.” “But, what if they’re everywhere?” “Then we move like shadows. No noise. No mistakes. Or we’re dead.” I nodded, swallowing my fear. “Okay. Let’s go.” We crept to the back door. It gave a faint groan but we slipped out. And ran. Until— “Ahhh!” Laura screamed. She collapsed, her leg caught in a steel trap. Blood gushed from the wound. “Laura!” I dropped beside her, trying to pry it open. “Sir! I hear something!” A soldier’s voice cut through the trees. “Laura, no. We have to move!” I reached for my magic, but nothing came. The vervain still clung to me. “Not now,” I whispered. “Please…” “Try yours,” I begged. “I… I can’t,” she rasped. “It’s too strong.” “Laura, please!” I cried. “They’re coming!” She grabbed my hand. “Go, Kyra. You have to. I can’t run.” “No. I’m not leaving you, tears blurred my vision, I'll carry you". I said hooking my arms under her, trying to lift her. “If you carry me, they’ll catch us both,” she said, firm despite her pain. “One of us survives. It has to be you. Don’t let them end the Flameborne.” I sobbed, shaking my head. “I can’t…” “You can. And you will.” Her eyes locked on mine. “Don’t look back.” I stood, my heart breaking. “Goodbye, Laura,” I whispered. And I ran. Branches clawed at me. My lungs burned. I didn’t stop. I didn’t look back. Then... A scream. Laura’s scream. And silence. They had killed her.Chapter 39: A Heart laid BareZarreth let out a bitter scoff. “What the hell?” he snarled. Darian’s eyes widened in shock. “Wh—what? We all heard the groan, right? How is this possible?” His voice stuttered as he took the chain, his fingers tracing the faint, rust-colored streaks of blood. An eyebrow arched on Zarreth’s face. A twisted sense of relief warred with his disappointment. They hadn’t caught the beast, but at least his secrets remained buried. “There’s nothing here. Close the damn wall,” he commanded, his gaze flicking down toward the cave where the building housing the Witch’s gemstones lay hidden. “But father—” “Do not oppose me!” Zarreth’s voice cut through the air, sharp as a blade. “We will conduct a proper investigation later. But for now, close this damn wall.” Darian raked his hands through his hair, a wave of confusion and frustration washing over him. This was his chance to catch the faceless man from his vision, and it was slipping away. “Your Majesty, we mu
Chapter 38: Whispers of Stone Lucian lay beside Kyra, his gaze tracing the delicate lines of her face in quiet admiration. His fingers gently grazed her skin before he tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear. A wide, effortless smile spread across his face. Then… he noticed a change. A subtle shift in the hue of his own skin. His fingers began to elongate, slowly twisting into sharp, menacing claws. His eyes darted to the window, where the full moon hung heavy and bright in the night sky. "Shit,"he muttered. In a flash, he reached for the hidden chains and leaped through the open window, vanishing into the darkness. --- I woke to the rays of the moonlight piercing my eyes. I looked around and found myself in Lucian's room. A shy smile spread across my face as I remembered what happened earlier. But then I noticed the silence. The space beside me was empty. Confusion etched across my face as I saw the window was wide open, the curtains blowing in the cold breeze. My heart
Chapter 37: The Storm I moved through the deserted halls, noticing the absent guards. Then I remembered—the king had summoned everyone for a meeting. This was my chance. I slipped silently into Lucian's room. He was asleep, his breathing even. A faint smile touched my lips. When I pressed a soft kiss to his cheek, a slow smirk spread across his face. "You're here," he murmured, pushing himself upright. "I feel so useless just lying here," he said with a frustrated chuckle. "You have to play the part until we figure out who is trying to kill you," I replied firmly. "Well, There's so much I need to tell you," I said, settling on the edge of his bed. "Tell me," he urged. I took a deep breath. "Your father has returned." Lucian's eyes widened. "Truly? Thank the gods," he whispered, a genuine light sparkling in his gaze. If only he knew his father didn't care for him as he believed. "And... Darian promoted me to chief maid," I added. Lucian's eyes widened in surpris
Chapter 36: A Throne in peril "I... I came to check on Prince Lucian," I admitted. A gut feeling told me she already suspected there was something between Lucian and me. She shot me a strange glance, then stepped forward. "You came to see Lucian? Why? I thought you had finally come to your senses," she said. My eyes widened in shock. So, she did know about Lucian and me. I heaved a long, heavy sigh. "So you already know,"I said firmly, staring straight at her. "Yes, I love Lucian. And he loves me, too." She stared at me for a moment, then let out a bitter scoff. "Kyra,Kyra. I thought you were smarter than this. You're not a child. I'm sure you know you and Lucian can't be together, or do I need to write it down for you?" I shook my head. "No,you don't need to do any of that. I know Lucian and I are from different worlds, but we love each other. And that's what matters," I said, my gaze locked with hers. A faint, dismissive smile played on her lips. "Stop being
Chapter 35: Whispers in the dark I hurried back to the quarters, my head spinning with different thoughts. First, Morgan's strange speech, and now I had to deal with Irene. With a long, heavy sigh, I finally drifted off to sleep. "Kyra. Kyra... Wake up." A strange voice called me from my sleep. I woke and looked around, everyone was still asleep. My chest tightened. "Kyra, wake up and head over to the garden. Now," the voice insisted, more firmly this time. Rubbing my eyes, still half-asleep, I stood and made my way toward the garden. I glanced around, trying to locate the source of the voice. "Go deeper into the garden, to where you heard that howl," it instructed. My heart froze. What was going on? "Who are you? What do you want from me?" I asked. "Stop asking questions and follow my instructions. If you want answers, obey me," the voice replied, sharp as steel. I swallowed hard and continued forward until I reached the end of the garden, where a wall of greene
Chapter 34: Stranger in the shadows "Thank you very much for hiring me, ma'am. I promise you won't regret it," Irene said, her eyes sparkling with gratitude. "It's fine. The girls will show you to your corner," I replied. She gave a faint nod. I headed back outside, but I glanced at her one more time. Her aura was heavy,as if she were no ordinary being. There was something strange about her, something I couldn't quite place. --- Queen Alicia and Darain were seated in the hall, their expressions unreadable. "I feel there's someone lurking in the shadows, right here in this palace, who has been trying to kill the king," Darain said, flicking his fingers. Alicia dropped her goblet and straightened her robe. "So those girls who were thrown into the dungeon weren't the ones who poisoned the king?"she asked. Darain's gaze darkened. "I don't think so,Mother. Those bitches don't look like they have the balls or any reason at all to do it." Alicia leaned forward, her gaze darkening.
