The relief was immediate the moment the hatch on Icaan's ship shut behind us both. Icaan didn't take the leash and collar off me right away, but he disconnected it from him so he could install the water canister he'd come back with.
I was still standing by the door when he came back.
"Okay, there's clearly something bothering you. Out with it," he said.
I frowned, having thought about it all the way back. I wasn't sure I'd wanted to say what it was, but he clearly wasn't going to let it go.

Suddenly there was clear space ahead of me and I sat back, my shoulders and arms aching from the tension. Almost immediately Icaan flicked the ship onto autopilot."Nice flying," he said. We sat down to eat lunch together, and again I'd prepared us something. It was yet another attempt of mine to make myself seem worth keeping, and Icaan moaned in delight as soon as he tucked into the food."You can definitely handle food well," he replied. Tired, and not sure what to do with myself, I continued to sit in the gunner's seat on Icaan's ship and tried to work out how I could get Icaan to talk more. The minutes ticked by, our ship beginning to inch ahead after some more rerouting of power from me, and some very impressive flying from Icaan. I'd opted to help him in the end, and see if I could win myself any more favor, but the truth was, if he hadn't been towing my ship we'd have been long gone."Let me power up the engine on my ship and at least vaguely steer it in the right direction.""You can't.
