HOLLY

There was a crack in the wall. Not big enough for Holly to squeeze through and escape from the dungeon, but big enough for a cold wind to come whistling through the opening and chill Holly's bones.

Holly had never been in the dungeon before. She'd been in plenty of trouble over her life but the Alpha tended towards flash point punishments that happened immediately. There had never been any reason for her to be detained longer than an hour.

And now here she was, awaiting her execution.

Holly slumped back against the cold stones. Her shackles jangled as she adjusted to try to get more comfortable. It didn't work. The little cell they'd shoved her in was cold and damp and about the size of a pantry. There was no bed or cot, only a pile of unfortunate smelling blankets in the corner she refused to touch. She was going to catch a chill at this rate.

Holly scoffed. She'd catch a chill just in time for her execution.

She drew her knees up to her chest and laid her chin on them. Wrapped her arms around them in a loose embrace. She thought she must look very sorry and pathetic but she couldn't bring herself to care. There was no one to witness her pity party down here.

She didn't want to die.

Sure, she had said she'd weather any consequences thrown at her. But that was assuming she'd actually manage to accomplish her task.

Those bratty princes were still alive and so was the King.

Holly groaned and thumped her head against the wall behind her. This was not how it was supposed to go.

Maybe she'd been a little overzealous. A little impulsive even. But she had really truly believed that she would be able to pull it off.

She could see it in her mind's eye now. The princes turning blue, choking as the poison swept through their system. That golden prince falling, foaming at the mouth. How it should have been.

A door opened down the hall and shattered her day dream. Holly leaned forward, straining to hear the murmured words. She was the only one in the dungeon so they were most definitely here for her. But was this it? Was this the final walk? Or were they just bringing her more moldy bread to pick at?

A set of footsteps, no, two sets, approached her cell. She squinted against the light of their lantern. Her eyes had long ago adjusted to the dark. Two tall figures stood in front of her cell door. The thick oak gave away nothing but she could see both of their dark forms through the barred window at the top of the door.

They didn't open it, instead just watched her. She couldn't see their faces, but she had an inkling of who they might be.

“What do you want?” she growled at the princes.

A smokey laugh came from the one on the left. Cyrus then.

“We want you, little omega,” he said.

She didn't like how he said that. She didn't like how he said anything, but especially that. It sounded like he had something planned, something up his sleeve that was going to make her angry.

“What?” she asked deadpan. She had limited time left. She didn't want to play games with filthy rich boys.

“Oh, you didn't hear,” he hummed, “we own you now.”

“What?!”

“Yep. You're ours, little killer. We bargained for your life. In exchange for you not being killed you'll be our pet. You're welcome, by the way.”

“I will not,” she scoffed.

“Yes, you will,” he said with unerring certainty. “And you're going to want to listen to what we have in store for you.”

She was silent for a long moment as she juggled the idea of playing with them or just shutting them out. Eventually she decided there wasn't much else she could do. If she wanted any answers he could provide she would have to lower herself to playing games with Cyrus.

“Fine,” she snapped, “What do you have in store for me?”

“You're coming with us to the capital tomorrow. Once we are out of this godforsaken pack we'll give you more details but suffice to say we'll be putting your unique skill set to use.”

She really didn't like the sound of that.

“And if I refuse?” she asked

“Simple. We'll kill you. Like I should have out in those woods.”

She froze. He sounded so casual about it but the way he spoke about it was with a hundred percent surety. They would kill her if she didn't do whatever it was they wanted

“I see I've given you something to chew on. We'll talk later,” he paused and then “how about another kiss for the road?” He said, the gloating in his voice clear.

“I'd rather die,” Holly hissed.

“Say that after the lashing you'll get in the morning.” Cyrus snapped, and strode away. The other shadow hovered for a moment before leaving as well.

CYRUS Cyrus toed the hard packed dirt of the Ashland Pack ceremonial grounds. The morning sun was a spear of light in the sky, The pin prick of light was doing little to nothing to warm the chilled masses that had gathered for the girl's punishment. No, not the girl. Holly. He'd learnt her name from one of the passing omegas last night after he had stormed out of the dungeon in a huff. Not that he'd admit to his brothers that he'd been acting huffily. Even when they called him on it.He didn't know what but something about that girl ruffled all of his feathers. And now here he was watching her corporal punishment. He should be enthused but he felt nothing but dread. He didn't actually want her to be hurt. This was just the only way he could think to keep her from getting killed If he'd been given a week he surely could have come up with something better but on the spot this was the best he could do. Four lashings. She'd survive. But she'd hate them for it.Nevertheless, as long as s

Chapter TenLUCAS“What the fuck, Cyrus? Lashes?!”The door had barely closed behind them before Sorin was on Cyrus, pushing his brother against a wall with a dangerous gleam in his eye. Cyrus’s head gave a hard thunk where it bounced against the wood of the door but he didn’t seem bothered. Instead he just shot Sorin a smug smile that only served to engage him further.Sorin growled, eyes flashing. Lucas could tell his wolf was close to the surface. The display was making his own wolf antsy and on edge. The last thing they needed was a brawl between them. Especially in foreign territory where anyone could see. They fought like cats and dogs, had done so since they were pups, but never in public where someone could see. In public they always backed each other up and they always always were on the same page. That’s what made Cy’s actions with this girl, this omega, so stunning. Lucas wasn’t ready to throw down with Cyrus over her, not yet at least, but he didn’t understand what Cy was

LUCASLucas stared at the girl's limp form. Her dark hair covered her face where it had slammed against the tiled floor. No one had even stepped forward to catch her when she fell. Lucas had tried, so had Sorin, but they’d both been too far to make it in time. They were faster than the average wolf, but not that fast.Lucas's stomach turned sourly. This boondocks pack was awful. The omegas he'd been flirting with had all been so eager to get out of here and no wonder. This place sucked the light right out of you. He’d never seen such quick retribution over something that could so easily have been an accident. How could a pack treat one of their own so rottenly on just the suspicion of a mistake. They didn't even give her a chance to say her piece before a wolf three times her size knocked her out. It was ludicrous.Based on what Cyrus had told him about a possible assasination attempt it probably wasn’t an accident. But still. And now Cy seemed to be playing at something larger. If he

HOLLYFuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.Holly stared in horror at the mess of wine and berries on the floor, seeping away from her like the blood in her face.Fuck. Shit. Hell. “YOU WOLFLESS PIECE OF SHIT. LOOK AT WHAT YOU'VE DONE!”She looked up and met the eyes of her furious Alpha. He was half out of his chair and spitting with anger. She began to stutter an apology, hoping he was just angry about the mess. That he didn't notice what exactly was in the jug.She wasn't that lucky.A gasp sounded behind her and her shoulders tightened up to her ears. Don't say it don't say it don't-“Those berries are mistletoe!”Goddess dammit. Holly glanced over her shoulder at the female beta who'd announced to the whole room her plan. It was Veronica. Of fucking course it was.Veronica was always trying to stir shit. She loved to make the omegas’ lives hell, most of all Holly. “She tried to kill the King!” Veronica screeched, like she just had to make sure that everyone in the room made the connect

CYRUSLucas was late. That wasn't unusual. But what was unusual was the frenetic energy radiating through Cyrus's entire body. He prided himself on being cool and collected but he felt like he'd been bit by a live wire. He was practically bouncing with nerves. And Lucas still hadn't arrived. He'd be punished horribly by their uncle for his tardiness. But it wasn't even that. He knew as well as Cyrus did that Sorin hated these dinners and he always made sure to be there for him as a buffer. Cyrus wasn't any good as a buffer. He'd still try though.“What did Luc say he was doing before dinner?” He asked Sorin, leaning over his untouched chicken. It was dry. This Pack's chef paled in comparison to the chefs at the castle.Sorin shot him a disgruntled look. “He didn't say anything. He just fucked off with the first piece of tail he spotted.”Cyrus huffed a laugh. That sounded like Lucas alright. He was always after some girl or other. It was a coping mechanism, Cyrus knew. Lucas couldn't
