Late afternoon sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains of the guest room. Cassie stood before the full length mirror, adjusting the delicate strap of her floor length dark green dress. The gown hugged her frame with simple elegance, falling smoothly to the floor without unnecessary glitter or heavy fabric. Her hair was styled in soft waves over her shoulders, and her makeup was minimal, accentuating her natural features.

Her mother stepped into the room, pausing at the threshold with a gentle gasp. "Cassie... you look absolutely gorgeous."

Cassie turned, offering a small, grateful smile. "Thanks, Mom. You look incredible too."

Veronica wore a dusty rose gown that gave her a quiet, dignified presence. "I just want tonight to go smoothly," Veronica murmured, smoothing her hands over her skirt. "Garrett said the entire board will be there."

"It will go fine," Cassie reassured her softly. "We just need to stand tall and get through the night."

When they walked down the grand floating staircase into the front foyer, Garrett Grey was waiting near the main entrance. He wore a crisp black tuxedo, adjusting his cufflinks. As he looked up and saw Veronica and Cassie descending, his face softened with genuine approval.

Beside him stood Alex.

Alex wore a dark tailored suit with a black tie, his hair styled neatly back. He looked broad, sharp, and intimidatingly regal. When his eyes landed on Cassie, he froze for a fraction of a second. His eyes swept over her from head to toe, taking in the emerald dress and her posture. For the first time since they met, his usual cold smirk vanished completely, replaced by a sudden, heavy stillness.

"You both look wonderful," Garrett said, stepping forward to offer Veronica his arm. "The drivers are waiting outside."

As they all moved toward the front doors, the narrow exit caused a sudden bottleneck. Cassie turned to make space for her mother, and in the quiet rush, she bumped squarely into Alex's side.

Her shoulder collided with his chest. The solid heat of his body made her gasp softly, and her heel wobbled slightly on the slick marble floor. Alex's arm moved on instinct, his large hand gripping her waist firmly to steady her before she could lose her balance.

For two heartbeats, neither of them moved. The touch of his hand burned right through the thin fabric of her dress. Cassie looked up, her breath catching in her throat as she met his gaze inches away. His eyes were dark, intense, and unreadable.

Cassie immediately pulled back, smoothing her skirt with tight, deliberate movements. "Excuse me," she said, her voice clipped.

Alex let his hand drop back to his side, his throat moving as he swallowed. "Watch your step," he replied quietly, his tone surprisingly devoid of sharp malice.

Garrett turned back near the front steps, pointing toward two sleek black luxury sedans parked in the driveway, followed by two SUV escort vehicles. "Veronica, my dear, come with me in the lead car. Alex, you and Cassie take the second vehicle right behind us. We will enter the venue together as a family convoy."

Cassie opened her mouth to ask if she could sit up front, but Garrett had already guided her mother into the back seat of the first car. The driver closed the door, pulling out slowly down the long stone driveway.

Alex stepped forward, holding the door of the second sedan open for her. Cassie kept her head held high, sliding into the soft leather interior. Alex climbed in right beside her, closing the door behind him.

The heavy car door shut with a quiet thud, sealing them inside the quiet back seat. The engine purred smoothly as the vehicle fell into line behind the lead car.

The silence in the vehicle was thick and suffocating. Cassie kept her gaze fixed firmly out the tinted window, watching the estate grounds fade into the evening streets. She could feel Alex's overwhelming presence beside her, the subtle scent of his clean cologne filling the small space.

"You look different tonight," Alex spoke first, his deep voice cutting through the quiet hum of the car.

Cassie did not turn her head. "I dressed up because your father asked us to."

"That is not what I mean," Alex said, leaning back against the seat, resting his arm on the center divider near her elbow. "Most people in your shoes would try too hard. I like the way you carry yourself ."

Cassie turned her head slowly, looking him dead in the eye and said, "pardon" I am here because my mother deserves peace and please I'm not interested in any form conversation right now .

Alex looked at her for a long moment, studying the firm angle of her jaw. "And fashion school? You are really going to work your way through it".

Cassie's eyes narrowed slightly. I never asked for any sort of help from you, so...

Alex stared at her, the sharp hostility from their first meeting completely gone. In its place was a heavy, magnetic curiosity. He let out a low breath, looking away toward his own window as the city lights flashed across his face. "We will see, Cassie."

Twenty minutes later, the convoy pulled up to the grand entrance of a high end hotel downtown.

A red carpet stretched from the curb to the massive glass doors. Valets opened the car doors, and as Cassie stepped out, a barrage of camera flashes exploded in her face. Reporters called out Garrett's name, their microphones reaching forward over the polished velvet ropes.

Garrett waited near the entrance, extending his arm to Veronica. He glanced back, motioning for Alex and Cassie to walk right behind them.

Alex stepped close to Cassie's side as they navigated through the flashing lights. He did not touch her, but his shoulder hovered inches from hers, an unspoken shield separating her from the pressing crowd of photographers.

Inside, the ballroom was massive, decorated with high crystal chandeliers and filled with hundreds of guests in expensive gowns and dark suits. Waiters carrying trays of champagne moved through the crowd.

Garrett immediately led Veronica into the center of the room, introducing her to senior board members and major investors. Cassie stood slightly behind them, offering polite nods whenever Garrett introduced her as his new stepdaughter. She handled the wealthy crowd with quiet grace, her posture straight and calm, completely unfazed by the display of status around her.

Across the ballroom, Alex stood near a high cocktail table, holding a glass of dark liquor. He was surrounded by two young corporate executives trying to engage him in business talk, but his eyes barely paid attention to them. His gaze kept drifting across the room, tracking Cassie as she stood beside his father.

He watched the way she carried herself, noting how she listened politely without fake smiles or desperate attempts to fit in. She was completely different from other socialites he knew. She was real, grounded, and fiercely independent.

The loud chatter, clinking glasses, and constant social pressure started to weigh on Cassie. Her head thumping slightly from the bright lights, she quietly excused herself from her mother's side.

She spotted a set of heavy glass double doors near the back of the ballroom. Pushing them open softly, she stepped out into the cool night air of a large outdoor balcony.

The terrace was dimly lit, overlooking the glittering city skyline below. The noise of the party inside died down into a soft hum behind the thick glass. Cassie walked over to the stone railing, wrapping her arms around herself as she inhaled a deep breath of the crisp night air, letting her shoulders finally relax.

The heavy glass door slid open behind her.

Cassie turned around, expecting a waiter or a lost guest. Instead, Alex stepped out onto the terrace, closing the door behind him. He looked at her through the soft shadows of the balcony, his dark suit blending into the night as he walked slowly toward where she stood.

  • Cassie’s Secret Deal   Behind Closed Doors

The heavy double doors of the private study clicked shut behind them, cutting off the vast, dark hallway of the estate. The room was bathed in the soft, warm glow of a single brass desk lamp, casting long shadows across the floorboards.Alex let go of her wrist, walking straight toward his desk. He pulled out her phone, staring at the dark screen with a lethal focus that made the room feel tight and airless."Alex, please," Cassie gasped, her voice shaking violently as she stepped closer to the desk. "You do not understand what you are doing. I need to handle this on my own. If my mother finds out about this, it will destroy her. She barely survived him the first time. I would rather deal with his threats every day for the rest of my life than let him ruin her peace here.""You are not handling anything on your own," Alex said, his voice flat and stern. "You are being hunted by a criminal, Cassie.""It is my mess!" she cried out, her chest heaving as tears finally spilled over her eye

  • Cassie’s Secret Deal   The Exposed Threat

Cassie pressed her back against the wooden back of the chair, her chest rising and falling in short, uneven breaths. She quickly brought her hands up to her face, using her long sleeves to scrub the wetness from her cheeks and under her eyes. She hated being caught like this. She hated feeling small, weak, and exposed, especially in front of him."I thought everyone was asleep," Cassie said, her voice rough and unsteady. She forced herself to stand up from the table, smoothing down her sweater and keeping her eyes fixed firmly on the dark floorboards between them. "I was just about to head upstairs."She tried to brush past him, taking a wide step toward the arched exit. But Alex moved with effortless, terrifying speed. He stepped directly into her path, his broad frame blocking the moonlight spilling from the hallway and casting a long shadow over her."Do not bother lying to me, Cassie," Alex said, his voice a low, gravelly rumble in the quiet room.Cassie stopped in her tracks, ref

  • Cassie’s Secret Deal   Midnight Shadows

Cassie woke up to a soft, rhythmic knock on her heavy bedroom door, the muffled sound pulling her out of a dark, dreamless sleep. She sat up slowly on the edge of the mattress, her body feeling heavy and exhausted. She had spent the entire late afternoon curled up in the dark, crying until her head throbbed and her eyes burned."Miss Cassie?" the polite voice of the estate chef called out from the hallway. "Dinner is served in the main dining room.""Thank you, I will be right down," Cassie called back, her voice sounding raspy and weak even to her own ears. She waited until the chef's footsteps faded down the hall before pulling herself up from the bed. She walked into the adjacent bathroom and stared at her reflection in the mirror. Her face was pale, her nose was slightly pink, and dark shadows rested under her eyes. She splashed icy water over her face three times, pressing a cool towel against her skin to reduce the swelling. She combed through her hair, pulled on a simple long s

  • Cassie’s Secret Deal   The Secret Terror

Cassie broke eye contact instantly, dropping her gaze back down to her glass as her heart hammered wildly against her ribs. She felt completely exposed, sitting there in the warm afternoon light with her deepest denial crumbling apart. She tried to take a slow breath, forcing her shoulders to stay relaxed so no one at the table would notice the storm crashing inside her chest.Across the low glass table, Liam set his drink down with a loud clatter and leaned back against the wicker sofa cushions. A lazy grin spread across his face as he looked over at Alex, who was still sitting rigid and brooding in his chair."Look at him, Celeste," Liam said with a light chuckle, shaking his head. "The man looks like he is attending a high stakes business meeting instead of enjoying a quiet afternoon at home. I do not think I have seen him crack a real smile all week."Celeste giggled softly, leaning her weight against Alex's arm and resting her cheek right against his shoulder. Her long nails ligh

  • Cassie’s Secret Deal   The Denial

Morning sunlight poured into Cassie's guest room, pulling her out of a restless sleep. She sat up on the edge of the mattress and ran a hand through her hair. The memory of Alex pressing her against the hallway wall the night before rushed right back into her mind, making her pulse jump. She shook her head and pushed the thought away. Since she was currently on a school break with two years left before she finally graduated, she refused to sit around and waste her time. She stood up, opened her laptop, and laid out her sketchbooks on the small wooden desk by the window. If Alex wanted to play games and act like a ghost, she could focus entirely on her fashion designs and keep her mind occupied. The quiet stillness of the house broke when footsteps echoed down the hall. Cassie decided to head downstairs to grab a cup of coffee and clear her head. She walked into the bright and airy dining room where Veronica and Garrett sat together over morning coffee, talking quietly about upcoming p

  • Cassie’s Secret Deal    The Collision

Cassie stepped back inside the brightly lit ballroom, taking a slow breath to calm her nerves. The cold air of the terrace was still fresh on her skin, but she smoothed down her dress and kept her head up. She found her mother standing near Garrett, talking to a small group of investors.Veronica looked over, her face softening when she saw her daughter. "There you are, sweetie. Are you doing okay?""I am fine, Mom," Cassie said, giving a reassuring smile. "Just needed a minute to catch my breath."Garrett checked his watch and gave a warm nod. "It has been a long night, but a good one. I think it is time we head back."As they moved toward the front doors of the hotel, Alex rejoined the group. He walked with a quiet confidence, his dark suit making him stand out in the crowded lobby. His face was a cold mask, but when his eyes landed on Cassie, the heavy look in his eyes told her everything. The moment on the terrace was far from forgotten.Outside, the valets held open the doors to
