Chapter 2

Maris was in a deep slumber on her average sized bed as the sun smiled on planet Earth. Her face was covered in sweat and her sheets were rumpled.

She struggled on the bed like she was fighting. Her head moved from left to right, hinting at a bad dream.

Maris stood in the middle of some naked men with the body of half a human and half a wolf beside her. She was confused. Was she still in a nightmare? Hadn't she been saved by some blue eyed god?

"Stop!" She screamed as two men clutched both her wrist and forcefully laid her on a wooden table. "Help me!"

Abruptly, she inhaled a puff of smoke. It filled her lungs and made her cough. She opened her mouth to suck in a deep breath, but was stabbed in the gut by an unknown force–she screamed.

That was all she needed to wake up.

Maris sat up, breathing heavily and scanning the entire room. The moment she realized it was a bad dream, she heaved a sigh of relief and slumped back on the bed with both her eyes shut. She reached up a hand to her forehead and massaged her temples.

Maris pinched the bridge of her nose and made a mental note to change her cotton bed spread to something lighter. She could feel just how soaked in sweat her bed spread was beneath her back.

The screen of the Samsung Galaxy beside her pillow lit up and began to ring–it was her secretary. As soon as her eyes caught the caller ID, she groaned before taking the call.

"Morning, Tracy." She answered, feeling a little sore in the jaw.

"Ma'am, you have two clients waiting for you." She announced then reduced the volume of her voice. "One seems to be going bananas."

"I'll be there in a minute."

With that, the call ended and Maris groaned. She laid on her stomach and screamed into her pillow. Suddenly, there was a sharp pain in her head and she sat up, reaching up a hand to nurse the place.

A frown creased her brows the moment her eyes caught something else. It was a red bruise on her wrist, appearing like she had been clutched roughly–she rubbed on it and frowned deeper, trying to figure out what it was that was on her wrist.

After much thought and racking of her brain, she shrugged the worry off and jumped out of her bed to get ready for work.

She walked passed her mirror with a grey towel secured around her chest and instantly reversed to take a gander at her butt.

"Oh." She pushed out her butt and struck a pose for an invisible camera. "They are finally growing." She referred to her butt cheeks and rushed into the bathroom.

Maris turned off the shower and took a step forward, but something happened. She almost slipped, but she was lucky enough to have gripped the necklace she hung around the shower head.

"Darn it!" She swore out loud when she still landed on her butt with a spoilt necklace.

She got to her feet and rinsed her legs once again before stretching and walking out of the bathroom, making a mental note to get a less slippery slippers. She felt funny in her stomach, like some entity was living in it. Perhaps, her period was on it's way.

Maris drove out in a portable Honda and halted in front of the building she called a working place.

Aura, check. Her subconscious listed as she raised her head high and bounced in her heels.

Coffee, check.

She grabbed a hot cup of coffee and tapped her fingers on it for a bit, waiting for it to cool off.

"You said I have a two clients?" She asked the moment she approached her secretary.

"Yes, ma'am. One already left because he was tired of waiting." The brunette spoke with her eyes glued to the record she was going through. "Oh, he didn't leave a note or-"

"Hold on." Maris cut her short, by holding a hand up to her face and rushing over to the balcony rail to see who the person walking passed the building was.

A line formed above her eye brows. How did she know someone was walking passed her building?

She squinted her eyes at his back and tried to make out who he was, but didn't get any luck so she just rested her elbows on the rail instead and stared at her cup of coffee.

Instantly, he stopped and her heart picked up it's pace in anticipation to see the face of who had captured her spirit in some type of way or was she just exaggerating?

He spun slowly and their eyes locked. She felt as if he could see through her soul and she instantly became weak.

What's happening?

Her subconscious asked when she found it difficult to tear the eye contact. His nose and lips were covered under a handkerchief and she recognized the pearls he possessed–his eyes.

They mirrored the blue nail polish she had on. He turned and walked away and she was released from whatever paralysis she was having.

She heaved a sigh of relief and clutched her chest. She solely wondered if she was safe.

"Ma'am?" A soft hand gripped her shoulder and she jerked with a small scream. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you."

"It's fine." Maris nodded and urged her to say what she had tapped her for.

"The other client is waiting."

Maris adjusted her chiffon top and nodded. "Wait, who's that?"

She pointed her index finger at the spot she had seen a familiar set of blue eyes, but it was empty.

"Who?" Betty asked and Maris shockingly folded her palm on her chest.

"He was right there..." She trailed off, then raised the cup to sip from it. "Ouch!"

She jolted and quickly removed the cup from her mouth when it had burnt her tongue and lips.

There goes my taste buds!

There was a pallid look on Maris' face by the time she strode deeper into the place that was dimly lit by a light, reflected from metres away. The discoloration on her face meant one thing–she was uncomfortable and something dark was lurking in this room, which pricked at her skin, causing her to swallow hard. Eyes scanning the place that looked like an ice cave, she was mesmerized amidst uneasiness. She led them, following the blue light with Dracula by her side. She could hear just how his heart was beating in anticipation."Maris." Egon called and she froze in her tracks, taking her time to glance over her shoulder. "Come, I have something to show you."Maris chanced a glance at the devil's displeased demeanor. He wore a mask of irritation as he watched Egon whisk her away to a darker path on the right."Where are you going?" Dracula and Logan asked, distaste laced in their words as they quickly shared a look of hat

"Why should I trust you?" Dracula gave Egon a long skeptical look with both his eyes squinted."Because it's fact. I mean, why do you think the devil made it a forbidden place and doesn't allow us sirens and tritons, owners of the land to visit there?" Egon questioned, making a lot of sense. "Because he doesn't want anyone to get a hold of his weakness."Dracula hummed, stroking his chin lightly and thinking deep about what Egon had just said."Think about how powerful you'll be if you get a hold of the Crystal. Give us Maris and we'd take you there." Egon tried to strike a deal, but Dracula shook his head in dismay."No, I'm not letting you have Maris just like that. What if you're lying?" Dracula's brows knitted into a frown as he pierced his eyes into that of Egon's."We'll take you there ourselves then." Egon offered and Dracula gave it a long thought before accepting. They journeyed together again, chatteri

Cold fear settled in her stomach when she locked gazes with Dracula. Darkness sat on his head like a crown and caused Maris to stop breathing for a minute. His face had a stoic expression on it with dead eyes. He held his index finger to his lips and swiped his thumb on his neck, gesturing for her to keep shut or die.Well, what a zinger. Dracula was breaching the agreement he had with her people for the sake of his own selfish reasons. He pressed his palm harder to her lips and dragged her quietly out of the tent, into the cold night. Bats flew over them and black birds stood on the branches of the tall trees surrounding them.At the drop of a hat, he whisked Maris away and deeper into the forest, carrying her bridal style. Maris had seen enough this season and she would give anything just to be free and normal again."There he is." Dick pointed at Dracula enthusiastically when he had arrived. "Tie her, she's a fighte

MarisMaris' breathing accelerated, so did her heart beat. Her muscles tensed and she vibrated, palms balled into fists. The sight of Dracula gripping Logan's throat set her soul on fire.Abruptly, she broke the chain around her wrist, turned and grasped the neck of the vampire that was refraining her from going over to Dracula."Dracula!" Her voice sounded like a whistle, causing the vampires to whine, hands covering their ears. "Leave him alone or I'll kill him!"Dracula dryly looked at her like he was bored to death–saying, "Really?"His brows arched and Maris had a firm grip on the vampire's neck who gasped for air. Her eyes turned eerily black. The strength in her multiplied as she gritted her teeth and was slowly raising the vampire with his neck.Dracula wasn't in anyway bothered. He continued to tighten his grip, closing up Logan's windpipe. The fact it didn't make Dracula flinch made her fr

Dracula"Who are you?" Dracula stepped forward, pushing Lucy behind him to safety, his fangs slowly shooting out."My name is Egon Ajax Kayden and I am a Triton, fill in leader of the sirens." He announced, flames burning in his eyes as he set his staff down. "You have what belongs to us!"Dracula scrunched up his face and glanced around him for anything he might have taken from the siren kingdom. He hadn't even been there before.Maris was excited, she could feel a connection with the man. Could he be her brother or father? But this man was too young to be her dad."No, I don't." Dracula shrugged, interlocking fingers with Lucy in an attempt to walk out, but the Triton stopped him by holding out his staff to Dracula's chest."Yes, you do. You have one of our kind and we heard her cry for help." He stated, still keeping his cool."Wait, aren't sirens just women?" Dracula frowned. "I thought the males got

Maris~~Azazel's dungeon."Help me, I need to get out of this place." Maris sobbed, tears trailing down her cheeks. With her back against the bars, she slid down to the floor and hugged her knees to her chest."I just want everything to go back to normal, I want Logan." She wailed, earning a pitiful look from Lucy."I wish there was a way to help you, but my fate is even worse than yours." Lucy sighed, resting her head on the wall.Maris sat up, remembering something her mother had told her when she was alive. She pulled off both her earrings and laid them in her palms. The earrings had the same symbol on her wrist and her mother's face flashed in her head."Whenever you're in trouble, cry to this or hold it and scream help." Her mother instructed, pinning the earrings to her ears. "And you'll be saved."Maris snapped back to reality and began to cry, feeling the root of bitterness in the depth
