The sleeping Luna

Alec’s POV

I sat in a chair watching her as she slept, she had been asleep for fourteen hours now and I had barely left her side, I had called the doctor the moment I returned home with her, she had a very high fever since she had been exposed to the rain for so long, she had been shaking so badly but the doctor had assured me that she will be fine.

The sounds of gentle footsteps disturbed me from my thoughts, I did not have to look that Alana had entered the room, I felt her presence as strongly as I felt my own, I kept my eyes on Brianne’s sleeping form.

“You should be resting” her soft voice purred from behind me and a few seconds later, I felt her warm hands on my shoulders.

“I know” was all I said but I still kept my eyes on my Brianne.

A soft sigh escaped her lips and then her hands left my shoulders and she walked to stand before me, her warm hands touched my chin and lifted my head to look at her.

Her white hair was tied in a loose bun on top of her head, her pale skin glowed as though the light of the moon flowed in her veins, she was wearing a white night dress, her warm blue eyes looked at me as though she was worried about me and I knew she was.

“You really need to rest Alec, I am sure you are exhausted, you need to rest or else you will collapse and I can’t have that” she said, her fingers slowly brushed against my face.

“I do not want to leave her alone, I will hate for her to wake up and find herself alone in an unfamiliar place” I said as I lifted my hand and gently placed it on hers and then gave it a little squeeze and I removed it from my face.

“Even if she wakes up and sees you here, you will still be a strange face to her, she remembers nothing of your time together so it will be useless for you to keep sitting here like this” Alana said, her brows furrowed a little but her face remained gentle.

Her words sent a stab of pain into my heart, she was not wrong, Brianne had no memory of me anymore, Jason had made sure of that when he tried to kill me two years ago.

I pushed away all those thoughts, they did not matter now, I had found Brianne again and that was what was important to me, not Jason and all his scheming.

“Go to bed Alana, I will get some rest soon, I promise” I said to her with a smile.

She looked like she wanted to disagree with me or perhaps argue for a while, she said nothing for what seemed like a long time and then she leaned forward and placed a kiss on my forehead “Goodnight Alec” she whispered and then pulled away from me, the smell of roses following her as she left the room.

My eyes drifted back to Brianne on the bed, she looked tired even in her sleep, I hated to think of the life she must have lived for the past two years.

She made a sound on the bed and I stood up, quickly moving to her bedside, she looked like she was having some sort of nightmare, I held her hand hoping to calm her down, her fidgeting reduced and then her eyes sprang open, she looked everywhere until her eyes fell on me, I saw the fear immediately register on her face, she sat up quickly, pulling her hand away from mine.

“You!” she said, I could hear the fear in her voice as she spoke.

“Brianne you need to calm down, you have not fully recovered” I said.

“Why do you keep calling me Brianne? I am not Brianne, I am Sandra. I am not the person you are looking for, please let me go, I do not want anything to do with you or your brother, you are both some sort of creeps and you scare the hell out of me, please let me go” she said, she was crying by now.

“I am not going to hurt you, I promise, I am trying to keep you safe” I said trying to calm her down.

“I can be safe on my own, I don’t need you or your freak of a brother, I don’t even know who you are for heaven’s sake” she said.

Her words cut deep into my soul and more than she will ever know, I wanted to get my hands on Jason and slowly tear him apart.

“Let me go please, I will not tell anyone about you people, I will forget everything I have seen, I swear” she pleaded.

A sigh escaped my lips “I am sorry Brianne but I can’t let you go, this is the only place that is safe”

A dry laugh escaped her lips “You are just the same aren’t you? Those were the exact same words Jason kept saying to me and now his so called brother is saying the same thing, what do you people want with me?” she said.

My anger sparked to life at once “Do not compare me to him again, I am nothing like him” I said angrily, I regretted shouting to her immediately because I saw her shrink back in fear.

I ran my fingers through my hair in frustration “I will let you rest for now. We will speak when you are calmer, you must be very confused right now, we will talk tomorrow” I said, I could not speak to her when she was like this and another truth was that, there was no how I could kept looking at her and not try to touch her, touching her now will only complicate the situation further.

“I do not want to rest, I just want to get away from you people, whatever it is that you people are. I don’t want to be near you people, please just let me go” she said.

Against my better judgement, I leaned forward, closer to her, she tried moving away from me but my hand moved to hold her face quickly, my touch was gentle on her skin, her familiar scent of strawberries assaulted my senses, I could feel her trembling underneath my fingers.

My eyes hungrily drank in her face, her beautiful brown eyes that looked like dark chocolate, her long straight nose and her plump red lips, lips that I still remembered how they felt against my own, lips that even now, I wanted to capture with mine and kiss her until all her worries and confusion disappeared into oblivion and the name she will remember for all eternity will be mine.

But by some miracle and a great deal of self-restraint, I only placed a kiss on her forehead and whispered “Sleep Brianne, you are tired and you need rest” then I pulled away from her.

I watched as her eyes started to flutter close and her body began to relax, I held her and gently lay her on the bed, she was asleep immediately.

My connection to her was still as strong as ever but for some reason, her connection to Jason still remained, that was the only explanation for her not being able to remember me but that was something that could be fixed soon enough, for now she needed to rest and so did I, I was already feeling the exhaustion creeping in on me.

I looked at her sleeping form and leaned down to place another kiss on her forehead “Goodnight and peaceful dreams my beloved Luna” I said before pulling away and leaving the room.
