"Good morning Miss Diane" the secretary greeted her respectively as she walked into the office hurriedly.
She nodded in reply without glancing at the other woman. She doesn't have time to waste, she had intended to skip work today because of what happened between her and Michael but later changed her mind.
She has important work related issues to attend to than wallowing in her stupidity. She doesn't want her relationship to get in the way of work. The company is more important than her pathetic love life.
Diane broods as she arranges the documents she needs for the morning's meeting.
The meeting is very important and she can't afford to mess it up, situations like this are always handled by Michael but she can't bear staying in the same space as him right now and she decided to go for the meeting all by herself even though it wasn't a good idea.
After giving a series of instructions to the secretary and what to tell Michael if he asks about her even though she was sure he won't ask. Diane left the company for the meeting.
After almost ten minutes' drive she arrived at a stylish exclusive restaurant, situated amid the busy city. It doesn't give the feelings of a classy place from the outside but getting inside was like entering a new world.
The place was quiet and breathtaking, it was a fancy restaurant that one wouldn't mind having a dinner there all alone while staring at the busy street.
She was directed into the inner part of the restaurant after giving the hostess her name.
She followed behind the older woman and was brought into a room.
It was richly decorated just like the rest of the restaurant.
"Good morning Mr Jeremy, I'm sorry for keeping you waiting" Diane greeted with courtesy before sitting across the man that looked like he was frozen in place if not for a single finger that was tapping slowly on the table.
"I'm sorry for being late" Diane said again after the man said nothing, she hoped he wasn't angry at her or something. She really wishes she doesn't mess up this meeting but the man not saying a single word was making it hard for her.
"It's fine" he replied suddenly in a husky voice, Diane felt relief and decided to waste no time and discuss the main reason for the meeting.
"Are you..paying attention to what I have been saying?" Diane asked in mild frustration after realizing that he had been staring straight at her for some time now.
"Yes I am" he replied emotionlessly, further infuriating Diane.
"Do you know it's rude to stare at someone this long?" Diane said suddenly after exhausting her patience.
The question hung in the hair creating an awkward atmosphere but he stopped staring and they proceeded with the meeting.
Everything went well and the brief exchange was almost like a dream to Diane after they shook hands at the ending of the meeting.
She left the place feeling a certain sense of loss, the man left an unintended mark on her. The way he stared at her opened the door to some emotions she had no idea she possessed before.
She was about to start the car when a phone buzzed loudly in her handbag.
It definitely wasn't her phone because she kept it in silence, she picked it up hurriedly before realizing it belonged to the man at the hospital.
Rhea gave the phone to her this morning on her way to work, she pondered for a minute before picking the call.
"Hello," she said softly.
But got no reply.
It was rude to pick someone else's call but she did it out of curiosity anyways.
After ending the call, her own phone started lighting up indicating an incoming call.
"Hello" she said carefully into the phone given that the number wasn't saved on her phone.
There was no response from the other side and she was about to end the call when the caller finally spoke.
"Where have you been?, And why have you been ignoring my calls." The voice that drifted into her ear ruined her mood.
"And when is it my duty to pick your call?, where I have been is also none of your concern" Diane replied curtly feeling sour.
Silence followed her brief reply and made her feel bad for reacting that way.
She ended the call and drove to the office, she was sure he was there now, and she hadn't intended to ignore his call despite what he did to her because their relationship isn't over yet.
He cheated but she is willing to forgive him if he apologizes.
The secretary hurriedly approaches her as she was about to enter the CEO's office and where she spends most of her time despite having her own office.
"What is it? Diane asked, feeling confused.
" umm..Mr Michael has a visitor and he is currently busy" The secretary said slowly with discomfort laced with nervousness.
"If he is in a meeting, that is fine. I just want to pick a document and leave and this isn't the first time I'm interrupting his meeting and you know that". Diane said in a careful but strong voice as a realization was starting to hit her.
" Did he ask you to stop me from coming inside? Diane asked, her voice shaking slightly, the other woman dropped her head in affirmation to the question.
She also knew it would be difficult stopping Miss Diane from entering the Ceo's office but she doesn't want to lose her job.
"I'm sorry" the secretary apologized softly, feeling torn between the two people. She had thought she heard him wrong when he gave the instruction and he repeated himself before she knew she didn't hear him wrong.
It's just unusual of him to say that but she follows his instructions with no question.
"Go back to your seat" Diane commanded softly after deciding on what to do.
"Miss.." The secretary was about to argue but a single killing glare was all it took to get acting straight.
Without argument she returned to her seat while crying inside.
Diane braced herself before pushing the door open without knocking and she immediately wished she never did.
The initially planned lunch that was supposed to happen among a few people ended up being a small party. Adding to the fact that it was the weekend, unexpected guests came filling up the large dining room of the large villa. The house belongs to Jeremy's parents, he also lived there when he was little before he left after high school."I thought you said your parent invited us over why then are these people here?" Diane whispered into Jeremy's ear as she looked skeptically at the pot-bellied man that just sat down not far from her."Listen everyone"Jeremy's Dad's voice rang out and was clear getting everyone's attention. The lunch was just about to start and they all seemed as confused as everyone present."I have invited everyone here because I have an important announcement to make. Once the last person arrives I will do so. Meanwhile, enjoy your meal". He concluded with a rarely-seen smile. If Jeremy hadn't known his father very well he would believe he might be forcing the smile b
At the opening of the door, Rhea brought down the iron chair on the head of the man while shaking with fear. A wave of relief passed over her as he went down in a heap. Bolting through the door, a long shrill of terror escaped her mouth as she bump into someone. It was dark and hard for her to see. The person held her in a strong grip before whispering hurriedly. "Shush!, it's me". Not believing her ears Rhea went into a phase of shock from disbelief. The bodyguard that had followed Benjamin turned on a flashlight putting some light into the darkness. "Rhea, can you hear me?". Benjamin shook her. Realizing she wasn't dreaming Rhea's lower lips shook slightly as she fought back tears. Hugging him tightly like he was going to disappear in the next second. "We don't have enough time, let's get out of here," Benjamin said lifting Rhea in his arms. "Bring him along," Benjamin said referring to Mark who was out cold on the floor. "How did you find me?" Rhea asked in a choked voi
Benjamin held his head in pain, debris from the bottle falling off.His lips tightened in annoyance. Before he could react fully to the attack, Mark rushed at him, toppling him over. They take turns turning each other over, at the sound of snapping bones Benjamin had overpowered Mark."You have made the worst mistake you could ever think of," Benjamin declared breathlessly in a coarse voice.Picking up his phone he hurriedly dialed a number."I need you to come somewhere right now, I will send the address". Benjamin said into the phone.Mark remained on the floor like he was lifeless. His breath comes in shallow intake.Yes, he has officially screwed up."I told you I won't leave until I get what I want, you should have remained in prison. Why have you come out?".Benjamin asked while rubbing the spot the bottle had hit him. His fingertips become stained with blood.'Shit!'.Benjamin continues to pace around the room where they currently are, looking around the room. He picked up a lo
Diane wasn't expecting the arms that went around her in an affectionate hug the moment she stepped out of her car."What are you doing here?" Diane asked while chuckling."I asked you to call but you never did, and I told you that I can't spend a day without you. Have you forgotten that?"."I'm sorry, I forgot to call. I wanted you to miss me a bit". Diane replied leading the way into the house."I intended to call once I have rested"."Well, I'm here now". "And you can see that I am fine, can you go back now?". Not believing his ears, Jeremy asked."Are you chasing me away?""Actually my curiosity brought me here, what was your mom's reaction?"Amongst many things she wasn't surprised, just worried"."That's nice but there is a problem"."What problem?""My parents want to see the two of us this weekend, on Saturday precisely". Jeremy's face reflects his thoughts matching that of Diane."Why had they invited us over?" Diane asked worrying her lower lip."Dan left early today, or d
"Is it Micheal?" Diane's mom asked in a voice filled with apprehension.Diane could feel her mom's fear as she stare down at the ring that occupy her middle finger."No, it's someone else". She replied, smiling as her face relaxed in relief."Who is it then? What is his name? What does he do?".Rosalind could not help the curiosity that overcame her.The last time she had set her eyes on her daughter she had been broken, she will not be happy to witness that again but God knows she is happy for her."His name is Jeremy, I work for him.You will know all you want to know when you meet him". "Sweetheart, are you sure about him?" Rosalind's voice shook slightly as she asked the question.Diane release a shaky breathe, she knew what her mom is scared of. She is also scared but the trust she has in Jeremy made her smile reassuringly at her."I'm very sure"."Congratulations dear, I'm so happy for you". "Thank you, Rosalind". Diane replied, getting a burst of loud laughter out of her.~
Diane chuckled as she listened to Jeremy's grumpy voice from the phone. He sounded like a mistreated kid."Why don't you want me to go with you? don't you want me to meet her?" His voice shows how unhappy he is."Of course, you will meet her very soon. I just have some things to discuss with her" Diane continued in a reassuring voice."When will you be back?"."if I leave early I should be back before night"."Are you sure you will be fine?".Diane almost belts out in laughter at his question, she knows he is concerned but she just finds it excessive."Are you worried about me because you will miss me?"."I'm more worried about you sending someone to the hospital over there".His words rendered Diane short of a few seconds before she found her voice again."Jeremy!""I'm sorry, are you okay by the way?"."I'm good, you promised to let me know how Micheal was doing after checking on him"."How is he now?"."He is doing okay, I checked on him last night"."Enough about him, I am about t
