Imogene’s POV
That voice, I hated that voice, and I dreaded the day I would meet her again after five years had passed. She was the root of my problem, the very reason my marriage had crashed.
I sighed deeply and felt Avery holding my hands to soothe me before I turned around.
“Alpha Imogene, it's good to meet you again.” Luna Celine had a plastic smile faltering on her face.
“Just when I thought I had seen it all.” I scoffed and rolled my eyes.
“Forgive that my son had been very rude, he doesn't know how to treat a wife he had missed for five years.” Her sweet tongue sang as she kept looking from Xavier to myself.
I knew an old woman's problem…. grand children. They were almost all they wished for.
So I turned to face Avery.
“Babe, I think you should take Xavier to the car, I'll be with you shortly.” I told him and gave him the eye signal which he nodded to.
“Alright darling.” Then he turned to the guards. “Don't let anyone breathe the same air as my wife. You… go pay the bills.” He ordered and made to leave when Celine’s voice stopped him as she stepped towards them.
“Can I at least speak to my grandson before you take him away?” Luna Celine asked shamelessly and my face curled in disgust, she had the effrontery.
“Don't you dare… don't….. you…. dare touch my son before you lose your arms.” I growled, making the whole shop vibrate as my fangs sprang out.
“Easy, Alpha. I don't mean any harm, I just want to…” Luna Celine said, trying to use her sweet tongue to convince me but the death glare in my eyes which I was sure were now red shut her up halfway.
“Take him away.” I barked.
“Mommy, are you angry?” My innocent five year old asked, he had obviously been shaken by my loud growl, I felt all the anger drain from me.
“No, baby. Mommy does not want some bad people to touch you, okay. I'll see you in the car.” I smiled sweetly at him and motioned Avery to make him away which he did immediately.
I turned back to Luna Celine and Orion but both of them had their eyes on Xavier even as Avery walked away from us with him
“Hello! I'm here.” I snapped my fingers and they both turned back to me. “What were we talking about again?” I asked with an evil smile on my face.
“Do you have something to say to me, Luna Celine?” I asked her and she shrugged.
“We know we've worked you, Imogene, but that was in the past, you should've forgiven and forgotten all about that by now. Orion is still your husband, you both vowed for better and for worse… but now…”
“A vow that you helped us break? You speak of forgiveness, what word is that? Is it a foreign word? Cause I don't think I've heard it before, and I have come to the conclusion that you have nothing to say.”
“Forgive us, Imogene. I know you have a big heart, you always have. Don't let this come between us and spoil the relationship we would've had with our son, my grandson. Please, consider…”
“Dear mother in law ….” I called and I could see a small smile play on her face as she turned back to look at Orion.
“Yes, Imogene. That's exactly what I am to you.” She said excitedly.
“Listen attentively, the next time you mention that Xavier is your grandson, public or privately, I promise to cut off your tongue.” I said in a very slow and quiet tone while my eyes glared at her.
She looked shocked and confused for a moment, not quite understanding if I was the same person she always knew.
For a moment, she looked like she wanted to flare up and give me an outburst but immediately it came down and her voice was lower than before.
“I'm sorry, I'll not say that again.” She whispered and I nodded.
“Good. Now, do you perhaps want to tell your son after five years that I did not steal your godforsaken cheap diamond or stupid gold necklace, whatever it was?”
Luna Celine was taken back by my rawness as she looked down in embarrassment and Orion on the other hand had a look of surprise on his face for a minute, then he composed himself.
“I know, Imogene. I know you didn't steal it, I found that out later.”
“Oh, you did? Good, at the very least, my name has been cleared from stealing that cheap family heirloom of yours.”
“Imogene, that was a mistake that will never happen again, we take full responsibility for it. Please, don't let this little child live without a father because of our mistakes…. Don't let…”
“Luna Celine…” I cut her sharply because I was tired of listening to the nonsense she was spewing from here mouth.
“Listen and listen well…. First of all, you and your family members must add Alpha to my name, I won't correct that again. Secondly …”
“Yes, Alpha. We will make sure of that.” She responded, cutting me off in the process.
“Shut up and listen, don't cut me off for any reason.” I snapped immediately and she nodded.
“Good! And of course this can never happen again, you know why? Because that would mean coming down to your level, an act I don't intend on ever doing, so that opportunity is lost. And thirdly….”
I sighed deeply with a smile on my face.
“My baby has a father, okay? You cannot force your son on him as a father just because your barren daughter in law has refused to give you a child. I'm sure you remember when I was the barren one, now, here you are begging to be part of the life of that same barren woman.”
“That was a mistake, I promise you. We didn't mean that.”
“Of course everything was a mistake. Getting married to you, Orion was a mistake as well, one I plan on correcting. I mean, I have already started.” I finalized it with a smile.
“I would love to excuse myself from this negative arena before I become afflicted.” I said and began walking away.
“Alpha Imo…”
“And… remember to say hi to your barren wife for me, you can tell her that I have finally left her in that society of barren women.” I giggled and walked away from them with my head held up high.
I knew their eyes were following me and I made sure to make their view and stare worth it as I cat walked gracefully out of their sight with my guards following closely behind.
Immediately I stepped out of the mall, I sighed in relief as I increased my steps towards the car.
I opened the door to find Avery playing with Xavier, I loved that they looked good together.
“Hey, are you okay? That looks like it took a toll on you.” Avery asked with so much concern and I smiled at him.
“It's not a surprise it did. I saw it coming just not here.”
“Mommy!” Xavier called and my attentioned turned to him.
“Yes baby. Hope you got everything you wanted from the mall.” I asked him and he nodded.
“That's good. And where is the Rubix cube I wanted to buy?” I asked in realization that I had dropped it in my anger.
“Here. I got you.” Avery said, showing me two packs.
“Oh!” I breathed in relief. “Thank you.” I whispered to him and turned to the driver. “Can we leave already?”
“Yes ma'am. The diver responded and began driving. “I thought I didn't come with an entourage, where did all those guards come out from?” I asked as I relaxed into the seat and Avery laughed.
“You know your dad.” He laughed and that explained it all.
“Mommy? Mommy?” Xavier called again and I sighed and rolled my eyes, not again.
“Yes baby.” My attention was back to him.
“Mommy, is that strange man my father? I heard the old woman say so.”
Just kill me. What the hell was I going to tell a five year old?
Arizona’s POV I thought surely it would be swift, Imogene sentencing one or both of them to death… at least a stripping of rank. She declared them traitors and ran out of here like she was going to incinerate them as soon as she laid eyes on them. I had grown rather irritated with Sophia and Celine’s crying. Such pitiful fools. I refused to let myself feel sorry for them.I loved him.Loved… that was because watching him look up at Imogene with longing in his eyes, I know fighting to keep what I thought we had would be fighting a losing battle. Not with the kind of power Imogene wields now and of course… a son. A cute little boy who looks just like him, what father wouldn’t want a relationship with him? I could have had that with him. A son, a daughter or more. But I let him talk me into so many abortions.Would things have been different if I had had a son for him despite the rules? Would he have saved that look for me? Would I still have had his mother’s favor? My eyes are draw
Orion’s POV“Move!” A guard barks at us as we’re escorted from the chambers to the dungeon where we will spend the night and await our fate tomorrow. The dungeon is located at the farthest end of the Supreme Alpha’s palace. It is a towering building that is neither inviting nor cheery on the outside, talk more of the inside.I turn to look at my mother. She’s neither crying nor whimpering now. Her head is still bent low, her walk almost a limp now. Her shoulders low like she has the weight of the world on them. She is exhausted and looks like she’s aged a decade.I can’t wait to get to the dungeon so she can rest. I’m tempted to blame Arizona but I can’t. I brought this on myself. I should have known that stepping away from her to bear her shame alone when Imogene asked her to apologize to Avery would cost me.I should have gone after her into the woods but I didn’t because I was too occupied with thoughts of Imogene, trying to curry favor and get on her good side. Arizona isn’t
Sophia’s POV“Sophia, she has probably retired for the night. It’s been a long day and if I know Imogene, she just wants to go hold her son till she falls asleep.” Avery said in a soft voice which was obvious he didn't want to annoy me.“But I have to see her, Avery, I have to! I won’t leave until I do. Hell, I won’t be able to sleep tonight anyway, might as well spend the night here. You either take me to her or I’ll go alone. One way or another Avery, I must see her tonight.” I say this determinedly as I pace on the terrace of the palace. Everyone is gone now, retired for the night. But not me and Avery. And the palace guards.Avery is trying to convince me to go home and rest for tomorrow when my family’s fate will be decided. But I can’t… even if I go home I will neither sleep nor rest. I have to see Imogene tonight, I have to beg her for their lives. Imogene had remained in the chamber for a couple more minutes with her father before retiring for the night. I know this becaus
Imogene’s POVMy eyes are blazing daggers. I have already decapitated them more times than I care to count in my head. How dare they. How dare they kidnap and keep my son. What was their plan exactly? To keep me away from him? After everything Luna Celine did to me while I was married to her son, she dares to kidnap my child!I don’t wait for Orion to recover from the shock of his beloved wife betraying him.“Traitors” The council hall which had burst into a buzz of whispers after Arizona stepped forward became deathly silent. Orion’s gaze has returned to me. “Imoge—”CRACK! The chair hits the wall with a deafening crack, the wood exploding on impact—sharp shards hitting the floor with an echo that reverbreted through the chamber.“You will address me as Supreme Alpha! Or I will rip your head from your shoulders!!” I growl, my wolf fangs coming out. I am bent forward on my seat, growling, my chest heaving, eyes flashing. I can tell everyone in the room is surprised by my outbur
Orion's POVThe second I opened that door and saw him—Xavier—sitting there cross-legged on my bed, playing quietly with a set of wooden toys, my heart stopped. My son.Alive.Unharmed.Right here, in my home.A jolt of panic shot through my chest so violently, I almost stumbled back. My mother stood beside me, her hands clasped tightly in front of her. She looked pale, eyes wide with fear, mouth pressed into a thin line.I turned to her, and with a voice barely above a whisper, I called her in shock. "Mum?"She looked at me with tears already forming. "I'm sorry.""Sorry?" I hissed, my voice was rising now and I couldn't fathom the emotions that were gnarling at my insides.I clenched my fists as the weight of what she'd done drenched me like rain."Mum, what is this? Do you even realize what you've done? You've made me look like a traitor. You've destroyed my reputation. You made me lie to everyone, including Imogene, and all you can say is sorry?"Her lip trembled. "I didn’t mean f
Imogene’s POVThe moment Orion went to make a call after the strategy, I knew something wasn't right. Why did it have to be after they had all agreed to start combing houses by daybreak.Something was wrong—terribly wrong. The shift in the atmosphere, the silence in the room before they all began speaking again gave me a restlessness I couldn't fathom. My eyes fluttered open, and I laid on the bed looking at the ceiling wondering what my heart was trying to tell me until I heard the new voice.Arizona.My heartbeat faltered, then picked up a new speed, expecting.I turned my head in the direction of the door and listened quietly. If they thought I was resting—resting while my son was missing, then they were up for a surprise .I forced myself to sit up, slow and stubborn. Pain kissed my sides, but I didn’t stop.“Supreme Alpha!” a maid gasped, rushing to my side. Another followed. Hands tried to steady me, but I threw off the cover.“I need to get up,” I said, my voice more breath tha
