ALEXANDER

The hall was so quiet that even a mortal could have heard the faint scrape of cloth against wood, the uneven breaths caught in throats. With Lycan hearing, the silence pressed sharper, every sound magnified, brittle as glass.

The air itself seemed weighted, pressing down on every shoulder until backs bent and eyes lowered. They all knew what it meant when I summoned them like this. I never wasted their time with pleasantries. I only called the pack to the throne room when something had already gone wrong or when something even worse was about to.

Tonight, it was the latter.

I sat in my father’s throne, the towering seat carved from heavy wood and iron was cold beneath my palms. I had despised this thing as a child. Even now, its stiff angles dug into my arms, a reminder of the tyrant who had sat here before me. But I used it anyway. Because every time I sat here, the pack was reminded that he was gone, and I was not.

My jaw clenched. I hated surprises. I hated miscalculation

ALEXANDERThe smell of stale smoke, cheap beer, and piss soaked into wood that hadn’t been scrubbed in years was what hit first. The air was thick, humid, buzzing with flies circling empty glasses left on tables. If I thought the outside was bad, this was a lot worse. And I knew there was no way I would have ever been here.My eyes drifted up to the creaking ceiling fan. It was on its last leg from the sound of it. There was grime on every surface, a stickiness under my boots that tugged when I walked. I wondered just how people were still coming and walking out of the place like everything was normal.Claude wrinkled his nose, muttering under his breath, “What the hell are we doing in a place like this?”“This is the only place he would agree to meet us. It’s a neutral ground.” Killian didn’t look at him, just kept moving toward a table in the corner. He moved like he belonged anywhere, even in a shithole like this.“Couldn’t he have found a cleaner neutral ground?” I asked, stepping

ALEXANDER“Go and take a shower, you stink.” Killian scrunched his face, pointing to the door. Claude who was fixing himself another drink nodded in agreement.I had an argument on the tip of my tongue but a single whiff of my pits told me they were right. I walked out of the office. I guess the small ray of hope I needed to snap out of whatever dark depression I’d been in the past week was a step in the right direction. That being the one place I would get to Alina’s killers. My shower was quick, even though I knew I needed more than that. I wasn’t getting ready for a fashion show. If anything, I was definitely going to come back bloody and dirtier than I was right then. Not taking a moment to wipe my hair or anything, I pull on a black t-shirt and jeans. The round neck was already starting to get damp because of the water in my hair. When I returned to the office, I found them still sitting in the same position, mid laugh about something I knew wouldn’t make any damn sense.“Let’s g

ALEXANDERThe sky was dark and the house was quiet when I finally came back to it. After making the vow to get rid of the people who did this to Alina, I passed out.Bubbling bloodlust made me call an emergency meeting in the pack hall. We were going to war and my people needed to know it. The silence in the hall is too loud. So quiet but I could barely hear myself over the thudding of my heart in my chest. I couldn’t remember the last time I was like this. So out of touch with everything. Now, addressing the pack felt like a chore I would rather pass on to literally anyone than do myself. The reminder that Alina was in the crowd the last time we did this made my heart stutter a little.I cleared my throat and reminded myself I was an alpha first. And these people risk their lives at every point for me. They deserved a leader that would be present and stand for them. Just like they would for me.“I-I…” the scent of blood filled my nostrils, forcing my eyes wide.A loud scream broke o

ALEXANDERThe burn of the liquor as it went down my throat did nothing to stop the turbulent thoughts running through my mind. I’ve been here for over an hour attempting to drink my sorrows away. But all I got was empty bottles with my mind still as sharp as before I started. Probably even worse now.The clink of the glass made my eyes lazily travel to where Claude was slumped on the sofa. He resembled a deer caught in headlights with his wide eyes and parted mouth, like he was going to say something but he hasn’t spoken a word since the ‘fuck’ he uttered after the doctor confirmed Alina died with my child in her womb.My heir. My mate. My woman. All fucking gone!!!My hand moved before my brain could catch up. Claude’s loud scream and the sound of shattering glass told me what I just did.I ignored his profanities, instead trying to steady my breathing. I needed to think! I couldn’t fucking think!I pushed off the chair, standing to my feet in one go. The carpet bunches, causing the

ALEXANDERThe door banged shut and not even a second later, I found Claude standing in front of him, his face a mask of annoyance with little hints of gentleness.“You’re seriously not going to just sit here, Alexander. You have a pack to run.” He said the words he has been speaking for the past week.It didn’t matter how much I ignored him or yelled at him to get the fuck out, he always comes back like he doesn’t have anything better to do. If it bothers him so damn much, he could run the back for all I fucking cared. After calling my name multiple times, he found a place to sit on the bed.“This is really what you want to do?” I could hear the frustration in his voice, I just couldn’t bring myself to care. “Lying down and moping isn’t going to bring Alina back. But if you get off your ass, you might be able to find her.”“And what good will that do?!” I snapped, I was tired of hearing him talk about finding her. Like it was going to help the fact that she is dead. That I killed her

ALEXANDER Fuck! I should have seen this coming. I should have fucking known sending Callum wasn’t the end of this. It was a trap and I fell right into it. The entire hall breaks out in chaos, but I wanted to get Alina to safety first. I’ll kill every last fucking one of them after that. But I know if I leave this hall, then I am taking the danger with me. I am the one they want and she is just going to be a casualty. But if they touch even a fucking hair on her body, then I’m going to destroy the entire fucking group and whoever is behind this. My target was that one man with the dagger. I saw the imprint of it in his suit. At first, I thought he was just horrible at disguises but then I later realised he wanted me to know it was there. This was all fucking planned. They had to have a contact close to me. Only a few people knew I was coming here. My security and Claude. And I know they won’t give out that information even if it’ll cost them their lives. Or could it be C
