Thane's POV

The sound of thunder and lightning didn't cease for a whole night. I could barely sleep despite the heavy downpour. There were lightning strikes all over the palace, and my fear was if it'd ever happen to me.

I tried figuring out what was happening, but I had no luck. I wondered why I even tried in the first place. I was stuck for the whole night, and luckily, my room was preserved.

Lincoln was the first person I spoke to the next morning. He was panting so hard, he doubled over to catch his breath and calm down.

“Did Scarlett get my letter?” I asked before he could even stop panting.

“Yes… yes… she got it.” He said, slowly regaining his composure. When he did, he raised his head and looked at me , shaking his head.

“What's going on? What has happened?” I asked.

“It's unconfirmed, but the King attacked Prince Franklin's Palace last night.” He said, and my heart skipped a beat. My chest tightened at his words, and I wasn't sure how to feel. “The King went with an army.”

I walked round, looking for any book that'd say a thing or two about a demon king. I caught an old book I had read with Scarlett when she used to sneak in to see me. I sighed reading it. It somehow felt like I was reliving memoirs that should normally haunt me. I shook my head to come out of my own head. I kept walking round the tall shelves, jumping up and holding the shelf for support. I stopped in front of one part, and my eyes caught a title that intrigued me. “The Demon King, and the human he desires.” The title read. I just observed it from where I was, wondering about what I'd get from the book. “It works now!” Jessica's voice rang through the house. I hurriedly grabbed the book, and I left to see her.
