Scarlett's POV

The library was closed by the time I got there. I sent Zion a text to meet me at the library.

“Damn, how did you get here so fast?” I asked, and he chuckled.

“You're my only friend. So, I'm always ready to chill with you.” He shrugged, and I chuckled.

We found a way to sneak into the library. I switched on a few of the lights. I made sure they were the ones that I'd easily be able to switch off in case of an unexpected circumstance.

I dropped the first book on the table, and it made a loud noise. I hit my hand on it to attract Zion’s attention.

“So, I lied.” I said, and he frowned, wrinkling his face.

“About what?” He asked.

“Several things.” I shrugged. “But the main thing now is that the beast actually exists and it's not my history assignment.”

Zion only nodded calmly. He wasn't shocked like I expected him to be. He was taking it way better than I would have. He looked surprised, but not as surprised as I wanted him to be.

“You knew?!” I asked, feeling betrayed.

“Yeah.” Zion shrugged.

“How?!”

“History class?” He scoffed. “You don't do History. You sent me the courses you're offering, and History isn't one of them.”

“I was just seeing how long it'd take you to tell me the truth.”

“Oh.”

“Goddamn, you need to get creative with the lies you tell.”

“Whatever.” I said, rolling my eyes.

“Well then, you have it right there.” I sighed, and he nodded.

“The beast is real?” Zion asked, and I nodded.

“And I need your help to save him.” I muttered.

“Okay. What do you need?”

“The families that have the ability to draw from people's pain.” I said, and we got to work.

We spent almost two hours in the library, checking family records and other historical records. Every name we found, we wrote on a piece of paper.

“So, we have the Smiths, the Vargrs, the Wests , the Kravens, and the Sutherlands.” I muttered, checking out all the names.

“What if there are other families and we don't have them here?” Zion asked a very important question.

“Well, as of now, we are only going to hope that his family's name is here, if not, we'll find some other way out.” I said, and he nodded, yawning.

“Alright.” I muttered, yawning and stretching. “I think we're both tired.”

“Yeah, should we retire for tonight?” Zion asked.

“I just need to get a book about the history of every notable family.”

“You have it already.” Zion hissed. “We took it the last time, yeah?”

I replied to the innumerable messages Michelle had sent me. She was apparently worried sick.

We left the library like we were never there.

***

It was time for the travel already. It was the third day of my cramps, and the blood flow had reduced greatly. There was relatively no pain also.

Thane didn't sleep in the room the previous night, and according to Zion, it had something to do with the competition.

Whilst I was preparing to leave, Thane walked in, growling and yawning. He jumped on his bed without saying a word to me.

I had packed a very huge back compared to what Thane was carrying along.

“Are you a lady?” He scoffed, mocking me. “Even ladies don't carry bags this big.” His voice was croaky, and if I were in love with him, that'd have made me needy.

“Whatever.” I rolled my eyes at him, considerably lessening the things I was taking along since it was just a three-day trip.

Thane and I got ready at the same time. I spent a lot of time trimming my hair and making myself ready for the trip. I had pepper spray in my bag, just in case Alpha Harry was going to move mad.

We headed out of the room with our bags. I said my goodbyes to Zion before leaving.

We stood outside the gates, waiting for goddess knows what! We were pretty close to Lunaris Academy, and I was almost feeling nostalgic. Staring at their gates had me weighing the pros and cons of being in Clawstone.

It was dirtier with the boys, but it was also more fun. The best thing about being in their school was seeing an infinite number of abs on a daily basis.

“Why are we still here?” Simon, one of the contestants, asked, shaking his head.

“Well, you're going for a competition.” Mr Harry said, and we all looked at him as if to ask the next most important question, “So?”

“And so, you'll need to go with female counterparts.” He said, and the atmosphere became one of joy. The boys were literally grinning from ear to ear at the thought of having fun with the ladies.

“Since the ladies are also going, and they're taking the most brilliant ones…” I thought to myself as the gates into the Lunaris Academy gave way. “Does that mean that…”

“Michelle!” I screamed as soon as I caught sight of her. I hurriedly ran over to hug her. She met me halfway and we hugged. I could only hope that I hadn't exposed myself in anyway.

“Girl, I've missed you.” Michelle hugged me again. She was the only junior, and the others were newbies, so they most likely hadn't seen me with her.

“It's Seth on this trip, and when we're alone, I'm going to do things to you.” I said, grabbing her butt playfully.

“Oh girl, I won't give you the opportunity to mess with my chances of being with any of these hot nerds.” Michelle muttered, and we laughed.

It was then that I looked back to see Thane and Rose hugging.

“That's your roommate, right?” Michelle asked.

“Yeah,” I nodded, breathing heavily, “and that's his girlfriend.”

We boarded the bus that'd drive us to the North, and we sat in twos. Mr Harry addressed us, but nobody really listened to him. We had the exact number of boys as we had girls, so everyone was either making a move, or making a move.

Mr Harry particularly stared at me for a while, in a failed effort to intimidate me.

“That's the bitch that wants to fuck your ass?” She asked, and I scoffed.

“Yeah, that's him.” I muttered.

“Well, the only person fucking you this weekend is me.” She giggled.

This might just be better than I had planned.

Scarlett's POV It had been a week since the incident with Franklin. Life was just normal, and I was most times burying my head in books to figure out a cure for Franklin's condition. Alpha Harry had stopped disturbing me, although his gaze would linger, and he would sometimes lick his lips. As for Thane… we had been pretty cool. Our little casual arrangement was perfect. I was getting better at having sex, if there's anything like that. We would make out or have sex in the evening, and I would leave at night to see Franklin. Rose had stopped coming for whatever reason, but I couldn't quite place my hands on it. I never also asked.“So, tomorrow, Lunaris Academy will arrive, and you'll finally introduce me to Michelle.” Zion said, unexpectedly excited about the combined sports fest. I haven't caught a break since he saw her picture on my phone a few days ago.“I already told you that I will.” I said for the millionth time. “You're handsome and nerdy, so you're like halfway through

Scarlett's POV“Is this a usual thing?” I asked as the growls and snarls drew closer. Fear gripped me, but there was nothing I could do. “Sometimes.” Franklin shrugged. “Expecially after full moons, when I leave a litter of dead animals all over the forest, they always try to eliminate me.” “And why do they keep coming back when it has never worked?” I asked.“Because they've actually killed me several times, but they always forget that I can't die. Maybe they're just not intelligent enough.” Franklin said, and that was even more shocking. I stayed rooted in the spot, almost praying that the Earth would open up and swallow me. Franklin slowly turned, and I was hoping that he'd really call it a prank like every other time. “What?” He asked.“They can kill you, and you won't die?” I asked, and he shrugged.“It comes with the curse.” He said, walking round with his huge body. He grabbed a piece of metal, and I could already smell the goriness of what was to happen. “You really don't

Scarlett's POV I followed behind Alpha Harry, cursing under my breath. He closed the door immediately we walked into his office, and then he pinned me against the wall, choking my neck. “Why are you testing me?” He growled, and his eyes darkened. I had to start hitting his hand so he'd realise that I was choking already. Still, he didn't leave me, letting me wriggle under his sturdy arms. He finally left me, and I was all over the ground, wheezing and coughing. I was scratching my neck as my body demanded. I could feel tears pricking against the corners of my eyes, and all I wanted was to wriggle free from his oppression.“You're so angry that you'll kill me because I don't want to fuck you?” I asked, shaking my head in disbelief. “Are you that deprived of love?” “You wouldn't speak to me in that manner, else I'll make your life a living hell.” He growled at me.“No, you wouldn't.” I responded, rubbing my neck gently. “And I really hate being threatened.” I muttered. “You should

Franklin's POV I barely held on to my consciousness after stabbing myself with a sharp stick. I wasn't sure what happened after. The next morning, I checked every part of the forest just to be sure I didn't kill Scarlett. When I was done searching, I lurked close to the Academy, but she didn't show up. Not once did I see her all through the hours I spent there. I eventually gave up, and made my way back to the house. Why did I even think she'd understand anything about me in the first place? Why would she come back after all I had put her through? I could have killed her. “Why didn't she listen to me?!?” I blurted out my thoughts. “If she had just left the numerous times I begged her to, we definitely wouldn't be having this problem.” I hissed, kicking a whole tree to the ground. I looked down at the roots, and it only fell easily because it had been hurt before. I kept pacing round the room, and no matter the amount of things I tried, I couldn't get Scarlett off my mind. She w

Scarlett's POV I was troubled by what I had probably just discovered. Franklin could be an illegitimate child, or worse still, his father could be the one that cursed him. The only question was why? And which of my thoughts was right. I parted ways with Michelle, and when I walked into the room, my phone rang. I suddenly remembered how Alpha Harry had threatened to do some harm if I didn't show up at his lodge. It was Michelle calling. Thane wasn't in the room, and my best guess was that he was having an after party with the officials. Afterall, he organised all the events that happened for the whole four days. “Girl, I just watched the video you sent me.” She said, with her mouth still wide open. “He was already undressing.”“Just make sure you keep it safe for me.” I chuckled dryly, slumping into my bed. “I will.” Michelle said, rolling her eyes. “Your mom came by today again.” She muttered, and my eyeballs widened. “To do what?!” I asked, almost snapping at Michelle. “Beg me

Scarlett's POV It was already evening, and I had been engrossed in the book all day. I only stopped for a while to speak with Michelle over the phone. I also ate during that time. When it was time for the dinner and awards ceremony, I got dressed in a suit. Thane didn't come home the whole day, and I was a little worried about him. At the ceremony, I saw him speaking with the registrar and Alpha Harry. I felt calmer. I sighted Zion walking towards me, and I smiled as he sat beside me. “So, how's it going?” Zion asked, and I shrugged.“I feel the intense urge to run out of the Academy to check up on Franklin.” I sighed. “He was badly hurt when I last left him.”“Why do I sense a but coming?” “But I'm scared of losing my life.” I said. “As you should be.” Zion muttered.“Because what if he decides to kill me? Or do something even worse to me?” “I don't believe he'd do that.” Zion said, sounding very convinced. “Well, have you started reading your book?” I asked, and he nodded at
