Scarlett's POV
My heart thumped continuously. For a while, I was speechless. I was also motionless. I felt my chest pressing down on me, like it wanted to cave in. I held Michelle for support, suddenly feeling the pangs of urgency. “Thane, leave now.” I said with an ordering voice. “What? I…” Thane tried to argue until Michelle shut him up. “Get the fuck out. I need to talk to him.” Michelle said. Thane shrugged and left the room almost immediately without causing a ruckus. Michelle checked again to make sure he wasn't lurking outside , or trying to eavesdrop. “Okay, what do we do?” Michelle asked, locking the door behind us. I was having difficulty breathing already. I had to hold on to the wall for support. “We have to be fast because she's literally outside.” “There's really nothing I can do.” I sighed. “If she came here because she knows I'm here, do you really think I'd escape?” “It's my mother for fuck's sake.” I hissed, shaking my head. I was beginning to regret not listening to Franklin. Maybe if I had just stayed with him, I'd have found a cure already, and the world would be a good place. “She came with just a guard.” Michelle said. “I think it's just a courtesy visit since we're here.” “I mean, she actually has to explain what happened to the wife the North was already supposed to have.” I said, and Michelle nodded. “Are you sure that I have to walk outside this room and show my face?” I asked, calming down gently. “Can't I just skip or call in sick?” “Scarlett, we'd have to try.” Michelle muttered. “It's Nightfall, and she just wants to say hi.” “Let's hope she's not looking at everyone one after the other.” “Worst case scenario is if she finds me, what do we do then?” I asked, and Michelle shook her head. “I'll find a way to break you out before you make it to the Northern Palace, and I'll ship you off to the farthest place on the Earth. I promise.” Michelle said, and I nodded. There was a soft knock on the door almost immediately. Alpha Harry's stench followed almost immediately. “Seth and Michelle, kindly drop whatever you're doing, and come to the pool side, we have an important guest.” He ordered. “We're on our way.” Michelle said. My breathing shuddered, and then I took a deep breath to calm down. “Okay, just in case this goes awry, I'll need you to run to the forest behind Clawstone Academy, call Franklin's name until he shows up, and tell him that his mate has been kidnapped.” I said, as that was the easiest solution. “Okay then.” Michelle shrugs. “It sounds very logical actually.” “Let's go then.” I whispered . I slowly walked out, calculating the possibilities of what could happen. We walked out of the room , and I saw my mother. She was standing just a few feet away from me. We stared at each other from where I walked till I was standing with the others, and she didn't utter a word. I was shocked that she hadn't already requested my capture. “You must be the wonder boy that won us the competition.” She smiled at me, and then walked over to where I stood. She looked at me again, stretched her hand forward and we shook hands. “You make sure you keep making your parents proud.” She added, and I was really hoping that it was a coded way of speaking. “Thank you ma'am.” I said with the most masculine voice I could muster. She walked away, and kept talking to other people. At that moment, my heart broke. It'd have been better if she had recognised me, and then outed me. Instead, she saw me, and didn't even know that it was her daughter. All she saw was a wonder boy with plaited hair. He looks exactly like her daughter, and probably even has the same hair color and eye color as she does. Or did she just let me be? But no, she walked by, and moved to the next person. She spent a lot of time talking to Thane, since he was the team's captain. I looked at Michelle with a confused and broken heart, but she was only happy I wasn't discovered. “You guys take care, I have important business to attend to.” She said, and then left. I ran back to the room almost immediately. I could not cry, I was only shocked. I was shocked that I was so insignificant that she couldn't tell that it was her daughter from a mile away. “You're mad that she didn't recognise you, right?” Michllle asked, and I nodded. “What happens next, Scarlett?” Michelle asked, and I gently raised my head to look at her. “What happens after? Will you go back to your parents and have them marry you off to someone else? Or you'll run away and start a new life?” Her question was very valid. Afterall, I couldn't stay in Clawstone forever. “I'll think about that, but let this madness die down first.” I sighed. “Well, if you're ever interested, I can hook you up with my aunt for the time being, you'll do whatever it is you wish to do, till you're back on your feet.” Michelle said. I pulled her close and hugged her. “Thank you.” I whispered. She laid beside me, and not once did I move my head from her huge melons. I kept them there till I slept off. The next morning, we were out by dawn. I sat with Michelle throughout the drive. We exchanged sweaters also, just to smell each other a little longer. She's the sister I never had. Well, if sisters kiss sometimes. Thane and I shot glances at each other every now and then, but it was nothing really serious. I was sure he was going to question me again, but it was when I wasn't really sure about. Maybe in the grand scheme of things, I'm not important. I'm just the girl whose face her mother can forget, or the roommate that should desperately be expelled. Maybe I am no one. “Bitch, you are someone!” Michelle said out of the blue. “Can you hear my thoughts now?” I scoffed. “I'm your best friend, I know how you fucking think.” Michelle rolled her eyes. “You're my best friend, and you mean the world to me.” “And I'm sure to Franklin, you also mean the world.” “You aren't no one. You are someone.” Okay? Really?Franklin's POV “Franklin… let me speak, please.” Scarlett begged, but I was still silent. I was fuming in pain, feeling stupid for letting my guard down so easily. The stench of satisfied horniness was all over her, and she didn't do it all by herself. She had help, from someone that smelled like lavender oil, or at least used a lot of it. “What do you want to say?” I growled, feeling my head ache intensely. “You should go and be with the person that you have sex with so much that I can't smell anything else off you!” “You're being unfair.” Scarlett muttered. A tear dropped from her eyes, and my heart broke even more. “I… I… I…” I stuttered. “What was I really expecting?” “I am a beast!” I growled, slamming the table. “I can't offer you anything!” “Franklin… please.” “I will probably die in a few months, and none of these would matter.” I muttered, feeling my eyes starting to hurt. It felt like nails were constantly ha
Scarlett's POV It had been a week since the incident with Franklin. Life was just normal, and I was most times burying my head in books to figure out a cure for Franklin's condition. Alpha Harry had stopped disturbing me, although his gaze would linger, and he would sometimes lick his lips. As for Thane… we had been pretty cool. Our little casual arrangement was perfect. I was getting better at having sex, if there's anything like that. We would make out or have sex in the evening, and I would leave at night to see Franklin. Rose had stopped coming for whatever reason, but I couldn't quite place my hands on it. I never also asked.“So, tomorrow, Lunaris Academy will arrive, and you'll finally introduce me to Michelle.” Zion said, unexpectedly excited about the combined sports fest. I haven't caught a break since he saw her picture on my phone a few days ago.“I already told you that I will.” I said for the millionth time. “You're handsome and nerdy, so you're like halfway through
Scarlett's POV“Is this a usual thing?” I asked as the growls and snarls drew closer. Fear gripped me, but there was nothing I could do. “Sometimes.” Franklin shrugged. “Expecially after full moons, when I leave a litter of dead animals all over the forest, they always try to eliminate me.” “And why do they keep coming back when it has never worked?” I asked.“Because they've actually killed me several times, but they always forget that I can't die. Maybe they're just not intelligent enough.” Franklin said, and that was even more shocking. I stayed rooted in the spot, almost praying that the Earth would open up and swallow me. Franklin slowly turned, and I was hoping that he'd really call it a prank like every other time. “What?” He asked.“They can kill you, and you won't die?” I asked, and he shrugged.“It comes with the curse.” He said, walking round with his huge body. He grabbed a piece of metal, and I could already smell the goriness of what was to happen. “You really don't
Scarlett's POV I followed behind Alpha Harry, cursing under my breath. He closed the door immediately we walked into his office, and then he pinned me against the wall, choking my neck. “Why are you testing me?” He growled, and his eyes darkened. I had to start hitting his hand so he'd realise that I was choking already. Still, he didn't leave me, letting me wriggle under his sturdy arms. He finally left me, and I was all over the ground, wheezing and coughing. I was scratching my neck as my body demanded. I could feel tears pricking against the corners of my eyes, and all I wanted was to wriggle free from his oppression.“You're so angry that you'll kill me because I don't want to fuck you?” I asked, shaking my head in disbelief. “Are you that deprived of love?” “You wouldn't speak to me in that manner, else I'll make your life a living hell.” He growled at me.“No, you wouldn't.” I responded, rubbing my neck gently. “And I really hate being threatened.” I muttered. “You should
Franklin's POV I barely held on to my consciousness after stabbing myself with a sharp stick. I wasn't sure what happened after. The next morning, I checked every part of the forest just to be sure I didn't kill Scarlett. When I was done searching, I lurked close to the Academy, but she didn't show up. Not once did I see her all through the hours I spent there. I eventually gave up, and made my way back to the house. Why did I even think she'd understand anything about me in the first place? Why would she come back after all I had put her through? I could have killed her. “Why didn't she listen to me?!?” I blurted out my thoughts. “If she had just left the numerous times I begged her to, we definitely wouldn't be having this problem.” I hissed, kicking a whole tree to the ground. I looked down at the roots, and it only fell easily because it had been hurt before. I kept pacing round the room, and no matter the amount of things I tried, I couldn't get Scarlett off my mind. She w
Scarlett's POV I was troubled by what I had probably just discovered. Franklin could be an illegitimate child, or worse still, his father could be the one that cursed him. The only question was why? And which of my thoughts was right. I parted ways with Michelle, and when I walked into the room, my phone rang. I suddenly remembered how Alpha Harry had threatened to do some harm if I didn't show up at his lodge. It was Michelle calling. Thane wasn't in the room, and my best guess was that he was having an after party with the officials. Afterall, he organised all the events that happened for the whole four days. “Girl, I just watched the video you sent me.” She said, with her mouth still wide open. “He was already undressing.”“Just make sure you keep it safe for me.” I chuckled dryly, slumping into my bed. “I will.” Michelle said, rolling her eyes. “Your mom came by today again.” She muttered, and my eyeballs widened. “To do what?!” I asked, almost snapping at Michelle. “Beg me
