Jade’s pov

“Jade,What are you doing here this late?”Alpha Luca asks.

I stand there at his office door looking at him. It’s been 3 days since his been by the ranch. And he looks like complete shit.

Alpha Luca is everything you read about werewolves. His 6’5 and built like a god. Has the most amazing hazel eyes, you have ever seen. Then you throw in a dark beard and perfectly cut short hair. I swear, when we go out even with his mate hanging off of his arm every girl stops.

“Well you look like shit. Luca. I’m here because you need to sign this paper work for the sell of Adair. They will be here tomorrow to pick him up. Where is Hannah? Why do you look so tired?”I say with concern.

Luca waves me in. As he walks back to his desk to sit down. I look around and his office is a mess. Honestly I’m a little concerned. His like ocd level 1000.

“She is out of town with my mother to a gala. She will be back in a few days. I’m sorry we have had a few attacks on some local packs down south and noone can figure out why.” Luca says.

I hand him the folder. “Well, sir you need to get a shower and some sleep. I’m sure you and the other alphas will figure it out. you are the smartest and strongest wolf I know. They would be stupid to come here! So I know you and the pack are safe. Hannah wouldn’t want you to stress this out.” I tell him with concern.

He signs the paperwork and we sit and talk for a little while about the ranch the last few days. I assure him I have it under control.

I wouldn’t have this ranch if he didn’t believe in me. He was my investor when I bought him the idea.

400 acres, 200 heads of cattle, and a breeding horse farm. Most people thought I was crazy to start it in Alabama. But not Luca, he supported me. Gave me 1.2 million to get it started. Now, we gross double that in profits each year.

We walk to the truck. I turn around and look at him and give him a hug. “Get some rest, Luca I’ll call you tomorrow after they pick him up.” I say.

I jump in my truck and head home. Luca and I have known each other for 20 years and been in business with each other for 15. I’ve known about him being a werewolf since the start of our friendship. most of the indigenous clans around me are. I’ve been to his mating ceremony and our kids have grown up together. Unfortunately, I’m from a northern tribe out in the flat lands of Montana. We are horse people.not wolves. But I have a special connection with animals.

As I drive home I notice it’s so quiet yet it’s a full moon. Typically the I’d see deer and at least a few critters running across the road. I just hear the hum of my truck. I look down at the radio and turn the sound up a little. But when I look up there is a wolf. I slam on the brakes. And hear a thud!

I grab my phone and call Luca! I know I’m only about a mile past his territory. I swear i just killed a pack member

Luca answers groggily, “what’s up?”

“Luca” I scream!

“I just hit a wolf! Omg I think it’s a pack member! Get here fast I’m about a mile past the territory.” I say as I jump out of the truck.

I didn’t think.I set the phone on my seat. I rush around to look for the wolf. no one is there. I run to the back seat to grab a flash light. they might be under the truck.

But I hear Luca screaming in the phone. Something about don’t get out,

But it’s to late. I hear twigs breaking behind me. I turn around and see 3 big brown wolves walking out in the road. They are mangy,not like Lucas pack.

It hits me. This is not what it seems. I yell at them to get back. I swear they laugh at me in wolf form. They are growling and slobbering. like rabid dogs. I try to get to the front seat but it’s too late. One grabs my leg. One gets my shoulder. The third one shifts back to his human form.

“What do we have here? I could use a new slave.”He reaches to grab me. But I fight back. The other wolves bite down harder. I scream in pain.

“Don’t you touch me! I’ll kill each of you. I scream.

He laughs in my face and says, “You are a weak human you aint gonna kill anyone.” And reaches for me again but this time with claws and slices my chest open. “Too bad I wanted to play with you but a slow death is all you will get tonight.”

He looks up and I see fear in his eyes. The other two wolves let me go and start to back away.

Unfortunately I’ve lost a lot of blood and start to see black as I hit the ground. but I can hear fighting. As I lay there, I can feel my life slipping away.

I hear luca telling me to hold on. And I try. I have a son,a family, I can’t leave them. I try to fight but the darkness takes over.

Next thing I know I’m waking up in a hospital. Luca and Hannah are sleeping on a couch at the far end of the room. I hear the heart monitor grow faster as I start to remember what happened. I look down and I don’t even see a bandage or scar on my chest.

“Jade, it’s okay, clam down, you are ok. look at me.” I hear Hannah talking softly,

I look at her. And ask “how. “ That’s all I can say.

She hands me a glass of water. “Drink sweetheart, I’ll explain everything.” she says.

I look back at Luca. I see guilt and worry. He looks like his aged 10 years.

I take a sip of the water.

“You were attacked by rouges. You were dying, Luca had to make a choice to save your life or let you die in his arms.” Hannah says.

I didnt say anything. I just looked at him then to Hannah.

“He gave you Wolf blood. Alpha wolf blood.”she says.

I looked at her. Pain in her eyes told me everything. I’ve known Luca for so long. I know his pack. how humans who are mated to a werewolf have a choice to turn into a wolf by drinking the alphas blood and their mates blood mixed together. But you have to have a mate or the shift would kill you. It’s their moons goddess way of keeping order.

I look at her and said “no. I don’t have a mate the shift will kill me.” I look at him and tell him “you just extended my death.” as I start to sob.

Luca jumps up. “I’m sorry Jade I didn’t know what else to do! I couldn’t let you die in my arms.”
