Xavier:

I’m afraid I might have ruined things with Charlotte.

I desperately want to fix this and let her know how sorry I am, but there is no way I can do that.

It had been almost thirty-six hours since I last saw her. I asked her maid to check in with her each time since I am the one she does not want to see but she always refuses to open up.

I keep thinking of different ways to make this up to her but there was no way I could do anything with her locked up in her room.

“I should have never hidden this from her!” I stated, pacing around the room when I heard a knock on the door. “Maybe things would be different if I had just shown it to her the minute I found out.”

“Now is not a good time, Alessandro,” I said. “Reschedule whatever I have to do today.”

“It’s Charlotte,” The voice replied.

At first, I couldn't believe she was there but after opening the door, I realized it was really her.

She looked really tired and from the eye bags on her face, it was so obvious that she ha

Charlotte: “Come in with me,” I said, trying my best to act composed. I then walked out of the car and stared at the orphanage building which looked so old. I could hear sounds of children crying but everything just did not bring back any memories. The building, the architecture, and everything I could see reminded me of nothing. “Are you ready to go in?” Xavier asked, startling me. “Yes,” I replied, nodding my head. I knew whatever I was about to see or hear about my real parents could not surpass the pain and agony I felt at my former pack. As we walked towards the gate of the orphanage home, Xavier kept staring and I could tell he was worried. “I’m fine, stop staring,” I said, knocking on the gate. After a while, a man who looked like he was in his mid-thirties came out. “Good morning, I need to see someone inside,” I said politely. “We are not taking visitors right now, come back next week,” The man replied rudely, trying to walk back inside. His actions instantly pis

Charlotte: I was happy Xavier brought up the topic of finding my real parents. I had also thought about it but couldn't talk to him because I was still angry. “How did I end up in an orphanage home,” I muttered, lying on the bed. The question kept running through my mind and for some reason, it scared me. I was glad Xavier offered to come as the real reason I insisted on going by myself was to know the exact truth about what happened to me. I could leave it to Xavier but I just do not trust him to tell me the complete truth. I knew I had to sleep immediately to wake up for the journey which was the next morning but I was still finding it hard to sleep. This had been going on since I found out about the adoption. I always found it difficult to sleep and when I finally do sleep, all I see is Lydia’s evil face mocking me for being a bastard and a failure. “I cannot wait to see the look on her face when I finally have my revenge on her,” I said to myself. I didn't know how the

Xavier: After Charlotte left, all I could think about was her and our conversation. Her sudden quest for revenge bothered me a lot. I began to wonder whether I did the right thing by trying to help her with it. If anything goes wrong in the process or she gets hurt, it will all be my fault because I could have stopped her but I didn’t. Despite everything she went through in Ashton’s pack, she had never talked to me about taking revenge. This made me realize the adoption must have hurt her so much. I wanted to badly explain myself to her, hold her in my arms, and assure her everything was going to be okay. “I should do it,” I stated, after minutes of contemplating. I rushed towards the door but just before I could open up, I heard a knock on the door. “Is she back again?” I muttered to myself, instantly opening the door. I was surprised to see Alessandro instead and wondered why he was there since I had no meetings or work to attend. “You look upset,” He said, staring at

Charlotte: For a minute, I could not comprehend what I was reading. I continued to glance through the papers but soon felt an overwhelming sense of dread as I realized what I was really reading. I paused a bit and looked up at Xavier for clarity, but the look on his face told me all I needed to know. This was exactly what I thought it was. “Adoption papers with my name on them,” I muttered, still trying to make sense of what I was reading. “This has to be a mix up right? There is no way this is real.” “Listen to me, Charlotte,” Xavier replied trying to divert from the real question but I was just not having it. “Explain this to me, Xavier. I do not understand,” I asked in a calm tone, still hoping this was all a misunderstanding. “You were adopted, Charlotte. I also think might have something to do with how your foster parent treated you. They treated Lydia better because she is the biological daughter,” He replied, walking closer to me. “Stop! Do not move closer,” I yelled, s

Xavier: “Does she know something?” I thought to myself, staring into Charlotte's eyes filled with doubt and anger. “Don’t you dare lie to me again, Xavier!” She warned. “I want only the truth.” Seeing how furious she was, I figured this must be about her being adopted. It meant she had found out the truth but how? “Look Charlotte, I am so sorry for hiding it away from you like this, I wanted to tell you but I just didn’t know how you were going to react,” I muttered. “I know, Xavier. But you should have at least told me the rival soldiers were from Ashton’s pack. It felt more scary to hear it from your meeting earlier with your pack soldiers,” She replied but this time with a much lower voice. “Ashton’s pack,” I thought to myself, feeling relieved. Charlotte was not talking about the adoption but was instead talking about the fight earlier. “I’m sorry, Charlotte,” I said. “It’s fine, I am just so worried that the whole fight might have something to do with me,” She replied,

Charlotte: “Ashton’s pack was the rival pack!” I exclaimed in shock from the hidden spot where I had been watching Xavier have a meeting with his soldiers. After he left my room earlier, I was so sure he was hiding something from me but I didn’t think much of it until I almost walked into the meeting while trying to get myself some water from the kitchen. At first, I instantly turned back and tried to return to my room, but a part of me wanted to stay and listen. I am so glad I did because if I had not heard this, Xavier would have never told me about it. “He outrightly lied right to my face,” I muttered. If Xavier could lie so well with a straight face, I wondered how many times he had done it in the past and what else he must be keeping from me. I also knew he was doing this to protect me and keep me from worrying about Ashton but this was not helping at all. Hearing it like this just makes me more worried about the situation. As I watched the soldiers disperse, I began

Ashton rushed out as soon as he sighted them from the balcony. “Hey guys, how did it go —-“ he paused, talking as he saw many of them wounded. “Alpha,” one of the men stuttered. “We…. We were overpowered because the alpha of the pack came directly at us with a sword.” He explained. “So…. Just Xavier against all of you and he won?” Ashton asked angrily. “Ye… Yes boss. It was not an easy fight and we tried so hard to —-“ Another of them tried to explain but Ashton cut him short. “Shut up, you cowards.” Ashton snapped. “I had so many of you go there because I wanted victory or nothing. You guys are just too useless, just this little assignment, you messed things up.” He fumed. The soldiers were quiet as they could sense the anger in Ashton’s voice. They knew that trying to explain themselves or calm him down will worsen the situati

Xavier I felt so relieved about the fact that Charlotte was okay. She was on my mind all the while I was outside, and I just hope that she did not see all of the blood splash. “Are you sure you are okay?” I asked her again. “Ye… Yeah, I am fine” she replied coldly. “But what exactly happened though?” She asked me. I paused for a while as I didn’t know what to say. I didn't think I should be exposing Charlotte to what happened today. “It’s nothing serious, charlotte.” I said, trying to wave the situation away. “Don’t worry, It has been taken care of.” I assured her. Charlotte stood there and just stared at me. I knew there was something on her mind about the fight but u pretended not to know because I didn’t want her to worry about anything. “So, what were you up to the short time I was away?” I asked her, trying to move on to another conversation. But Charlotte wasn’t having it. “Xavier,” she called me. “Yes,” I replied, hoping that she would mention something
