I dropped the hairdryer on the nightstand and caught Leah before she could limp away. I lowered her gently on the bed.

Kneeling, I raised her foot. My frustration boiled with each shard I picked out.

She didn't make a sound as I cleaned her injury like she was now numb to pain.

"Don't do this to yourself, Leah." My voice was soft as I cleaned her wounds. "If you need to hurt someone, hurt me instead."

She turned her head away from me, staring at the ceiling.

I kissed the top of her foot after wrapping it. She jerked it away and tried to stand. I grabbed her wrist and pulled her back down.

"I'll tie you to the fucking bed if you walk on that foot," I threatened.

She struggled a little more and when she saw it was futile she gave up and lay down.

The servant girl leah was close with knocked and came in with a broom.

Leah's stomach growled loudly. I glanced at her. "I'll go get you something to eat."
