Kevin’s POV

I lazily watched Jonathan parking the car in parking lot of council office, while I was eyeing this masterpiece of architect.

‘I understand that you and Carl want to explode this building but please consider huge amounts of money of all packs that have been spent on it, we worked hard to earn it. Have mercy brother’ Jonathan said playfully, I narrowed my eyes at him and sighed annoyingly.

‘Why the hell do we all packs waste our money on them? We should have burnt them instead’ I said bitterly. I never liked the idea of having a council, but it wasn’t our decision, it was taken by our great grandfathers, and they thought to have a neutral office, who can act as source of justice, equality between packs, keeping them distant from any war and not letting any pack go in danger.

Since then, we all packs are bound to give a certain amount of money to run the operations of council. Well, it was still fine with me, I always thought that I was giving charity on behalf of my pack, but then again, this council has to act like my dad and worry about my lonely life and my pack not having their Luna.

Like seriously!

Last year Bryan, one of council members contacted me and showed concern over why I have not found any mate yet, I should expand my search and look into other packs, maybe she belongs to other pack. Well, he was right, but it isn’t like I didn’t find my mate, I did. It was four years ago when I found my mate, I was twenty five at that time and she was three years younger, she was from other pack and came to visit her aunt in Shadow Moon Pack, that’s how I found her, but I was rejected instantly.

When I declared to her that she was my mate, she swiftly rejected, didn’t even take a time to think and when I confronted her on her act, she nonchalantly informed me about her boyfriend, she was becoming his chosen mate. It was heart breaking moment, some jerk was prioritized over me, I was fated mate, an Alpha but my mate rejected me. Since than I have no interest in mate thing, no trust in mate bond and I was doing fine in my life.

My whole focus was on prospering my pack, I had worked hard all these years to make my pack the wealthiest and most developed pack.

When I received Bryan call for first time, I ignored him, but when he called frequently pressurizing me to look for the mate, I let him know that I was rejected and have no intention to go on any search of my mate again, besides I am not sure if there is chance to find a second chance mate. I have heard people get lucky, but I have no hope for me.

After he heard my story, there was a silence for a month and I came into peace, glad that he had understood and won’t pester on me, but I was wrong, after a month, I didn’t receive his call, instead I was informed by my patrol team about his visit to the pack.

Shocked, I approve of letting him in and at that time I came to know of his true intentions. He wanted me to choose his daughter Iris as my chosen mate, my mind blew at his advice, and I refused him on the spot.

First thing I will never go for the chosen mate until it becomes the matter of do or die for me, or Carl and I would feel the need of our mate and failed to find the fated, then I could consider but still the chances of it our lowest.

After my meeting with Bryan, he did not contact me for six months and I didn’t care, but after six months I received the letter from council showing concern about my pack being run without their Luna, although it was from administration office, but I had gut feeling that it was all Bryan’s doing. I wrote them response that it isn’t an important issue, and my pack is running fine, but they didn’t accept it and pressured me to find the mate.

It was frustrating, they wanted me to go on hunt to find my Luna. Well, issue dragged and last and final letter I received was to make choice between taking chosen mate or leaving my Alpha position.

Damn, I will give up my Alpha position, I have worked hard to serve my pack, and it is all my efforts that my pack is renowned and respected.

‘Come on’ Kevin, don’t you want to go inside?’ I might have drifted off to my thoughts because Jonathan was standing outside, waving for me to come out too. Thinking the consequences of my decision which I am going to make in front of the council today, soured my face, but I composed myself and exited from the car.

‘We both know, we have to give face to these old men’s.’ I groaned in irritation.

‘Are you sure about your decision?’ Jonathan, my friend, cousin and beta asked worried. When I let him know of my decision, he wasn’t happy, even called me fool but when he heard the next option I have, he shut his mouth and gave in quietly.

‘I am, unless you want me to step down from my position’ He punched me on shoulders.

‘Don’t say rubbish. We will muster up the courage to accept Iris as our Luna, despite her reputation isn’t so good, but only for your sake’ I hummed and walked towards the entrance.

‘By the way, did you find the person who sent us that parcel’ I asked randomly, seeing the building I couldn’t ignore the package which I had received a week ago, it was after I had received the letter from council to make the final decision.

At once I thought of using it as my escape from this mess, but when I gave it a thorough understanding I realized blowing up about this could bring me and the person who sent to me in danger, also an issue will surround all the packs in the region, and honestly I wasn’t sure if it could be bad or good.

I gave up and locked the document in the drawer of my working desk, assigning the task to Jonathan to find out who had sent this to us, I must learn the objective of the person behind sending it to me and specifically me, why that person chose me for this. I had questions but couldn’t get any answers, until I found out who had sent it.

We were asked to wait in the waiting room until I was called, groaning inwardly I slumped down on the couch. Carl has not been talking to me since I had taken the decision to go for chosen mate. He isn’t waiting for a mate like me, we both have lost hope of genuine and true love from our mate; however, he was worried that how we would face her if we ever found our fated mate, he doesn’t want to go chosen mate.

He was right though, but my reasons are solid, hence we both were not on good terms since then. I rethink the consequences of choosing Iris as my mate today, I will be taking her with me to the pack and will mark her as well. The worst I am expecting is the frequent involvement of Bryan but that’s my pack and I know how to put people in limits.

I narrowed my eyes at Jonathan, he was playing game on his phone whereas I was tapping my shoes on the floor waiting for the call, I want to get through this as soon as possible.

‘Kevin!’ I was jolted from inside, and it was none other than Carl’s doing.

‘What happened?’ how come he broke the silence treatment to me.

‘Mate! Our Mate is here, she is coming here, I can sense her’ my eyes widened.

‘Our mate? Here? What is she doing here?’ I might have muttered loudly as Jonathan was beside me in second.

‘What you find your mate? Fated mate?’ I nodded at him and he lips stretched with a broad smile.

‘I don’t know, Carl says she is coming here’ our eyes glued to the door frame, if he is right, she would enter from here any minute, and it didn’t take her long, hardly a minute passed and we saw a woman, she was followed by a man. My brows knitted, she seemed close to him, the smile on her face while talking to him jealous me, my eyes intently fixed on her, and I watched her stopping abruptly.

‘What happened Luna?’ the woman’s eyes snapped at me, I could see the shock and horror in them as if she couldn’t believe it, she shook her head and turned to leave, my ears caught the words left by the man with her.

‘Luna?’ I was left puzzled and looked at Jonathan.

‘Am I rejected again?’ Words left my mouth involuntarily, I quickly came into senses, I must follow her.

‘Jonathan, find out what brought her here, I am going after her’ Carl and I were excited, I couldn’t believe I was granted a second chance mate, but why did she run and what was about this Luna calling.
