‘Luna?’
‘Huh?’ I was startled and blinked my eyes before looking at Steven, my beta.
‘We have arrived,” he informed to me gently and with respect, he has been loyal with me all this time and had been a great support for me. I pressed my lips and forced a smile, giving him a firm nod and turned my head to look out the two story building, built on large area of land.
A cold sigh escaped, it was my first time coming to the council’s office. This big office never interferes in operational matters of any pack, they give no damn on how Alpha and Luna are running their pack, but they become active the moment they learn about any crime, or bribery, or threat looming over any pack.
Most of the time they are playing a role of peace maker and keeping the track of packs, if they are running fine and smooth or need assistance from them. They couldn’t be reached by any ordinary member easily, they only communicated with Alpha and Luna’s of the pack, in White Stone Pack, it was Tyler who always attended meetings and seminars conducted by them.
And when I am standing here in the parking of this office, who has the authority on every pack of this region, it wasn’t for attending any meeting or seminar, instead it was to prove my innocence.
‘Aren’t you going in? You have thirty minutes before your hearing starts.’ Steven seems concerned and annoyed; I don’t blame him. Yesterday, I was going through same emotions, in fact mine were worst.
Yesterday afternoon, a letter was delivered to our pack house address, it was meant for me and was from administration office of council. It was a first communication I received from council after the death of my mate. I tear the envelope and begin reading the printed words on it. As my eyes were following the lines, I had scowl on my face, Steven and Ryan were already there, we were discussing the currently ongoing issue in our pack and were looking for the resolution when we received it.
‘Have they gone mad?’ I muttered in annoyance, Steven took it from me to read, he had worked closely with Tyler and accompanied him in council meetings occasionally. He was surprised too after reading it.
‘They’re accusing you of murdering Tyler?’ Ryan reacted promptly.
‘How can they do that, we all know he died because of heart attack and doctors couldn’t save him. If they call it murder, than they should have summoned Caroline, she was his doctor’ there was deep silence before Steven responded to him.
‘They are blaming Luna for poisoning him and its not just suspicion, they are claiming to have evidence against her’ I leaned back on chair and closed my eyes, I had sudden headache and pressed my fingers on the temples.
‘When have they called me?’ I asked feeling weary, I couldn’t jerk off my last meeting with Albert and now as his words were making sense to me my body has gotten tensed.
‘Tomorrow, at ten in morning’ I hummed, which meant I had to leave at dawn so that I could reach their on time.
‘Steven, you’ll come with me. Wrap it up, we’ll discuss this matter tomorrow, after coming back from council’ I felt like my energy was drained and I could not work anymore. Staying close to me for eleven years, because of their roles of supporting Tyler, they understand me very well and without objecting or trying consoling me, they left quietly, giving me space to think.
As the door closed, leaving me alone in this room, I exhaled a frustrating sigh and opened the top drawer of my desk, in it was a small frame, mine and Tyler’s picture. It was very first picture of ours, when I was nineteen years old and he twenty, that day we found out about each other being mates and gladly accepted our bond, marking each other and since than I had lived a happiest life, with him and our son Zachary, I was not prepared for life’s brutal blow, when one day he complained about not feeling well and called off his work to take a rest but soon his condition worsen and we had to take him to pack clinic, where Caroline, pack doctor took him in emergency but after the wait of two hours I was informed about the loss of my mate.
If it wasn’t for Zachary and the pack, to which my mate has given his sweat and blood to make it prosper, I might have chose to hide in loneliness unless death would have welcomed me but I had to hide my pain, my grief of losing the love of my life and my biggest supporter and force the smile on my face for the sake of our son and our pack.
It has been two months since I lost him, and the same time I am having conflict with Albert, the elder of the pack. My one reason of taking charge of pack matters, acting as Alpha and Luna, was him, it was next day after his death when Albert visited me and suggested to let him run the pack until Zachary shifts and becomes eligible to be the Alpha. I wasn’t a person who understand politics, and complications, or hidden agenda of clever people, Tyler always kept me saved from it, but I knew he hated this man, because of his selfish nature and because of him, I had to push the mourning of my mate aside and take charge of the pack right away.
Things haven’t been easy since that day, and I have been struggling daily, if it wasn’t for support from Steven and Ryan I might have lost too early, they are acting as my strength till today. However, Albert did not stop, and he comes twice or thrice a week, trying his best to persuade me to give up this position and let him rule, he will take care of the pack until Zachary is ready.
These two months had taught me a lot; I have now learnt to suspect people’s intentions while they talk and just like that, I understood Albert just wanted to get rid of me and my son but without dirtying his hand. He wants me to get down so pack members give him respect and consider it as a debt on them that he came as their savior.
In our last encounter, I had gotten very harsh with him, most of time I ignore him by saying, I’ll think about it, but in our last meet up I threatened him with banishing and in response he warned me of consequences to show him my power. He vows to make me regret and now thinking about the letter I had received, I think he had succeeded.
I was regretting getting harsh on him, I have no doubt this is his doing. Council does not interfere from its own and being elder of pack he has advantage to contact to them directly and accusing me of killing Tyler. Regretting the past act is foolish now, we can’t undo it, but how am I going to prove my innocence at council tomorrow? It was a big challenge for me. I traced my finger on Tyler’s picture, only if he was alive, a tear fell from the corner of my eyes and I hugged the picture. There isn’t any day when I have not missed him.
Kevin POV‘No, I didn’t’ she swiftly reacted and blurted out.‘I didn’t kill him; he died because of heart attack’ she said tiredly, tears rolling down on her cheeks. Through our mate bond I could feel her grief and pain, and instantly regretted accusing her, I should have asked her instead about why she is here, it would have been better. While I was listening her listing down the reasons why I should reject her, Jonathan mind linked me, informing me the reason of her presence, she was summoned by council for poisoning her husband and I didn’t hesitate to ask her, for a moment I believed on council’s accusation but the sorrow I am feeling right now, her emotions passing in me, I am feeling bad for her.She had crouched down on her knees, silently weeping, maybe missing her died mate, when I, her second chance mate was standing right beside her, but she doesn’t care, she even was trying her best to persuade me to reject her.My mind wasn’t working right now, as if it had fogged, my em
Savannah’s POVMy heart was racing, I didn’t look back in horror of being followed, Steven was calling me from behind, I stopped once I was out of this building and standing in the small park around. I was panting, my eyes teary, I didn’t believe when Anna called out to me and informed me about the mate, I thought she was missing Bruce, Tyler’s wolf but she strongly repeated that she isn’t talking about Tyler or Bruce, she was hinting about her second mate that is present in the council. As I followed the direction she was pointing at, my breath hitched, because our eyes got locked the moment I raised my head, it was like he already knew I was coming and he was waiting for me to show up. The exchange of our gaze confirmed me that Anna was right, I was granted another mate, but it couldn’t be possible, it’s wrong, so so wrong.I spun on my heels and started to run.‘Luna? Are you alright? Why run so suddenly?’ Steven rested his hand on my shoulder asking worried but before I could tell
Kevin’s POVI lazily watched Jonathan parking the car in parking lot of council office, while I was eyeing this masterpiece of architect.‘I understand that you and Carl want to explode this building but please consider huge amounts of money of all packs that have been spent on it, we worked hard to earn it. Have mercy brother’ Jonathan said playfully, I narrowed my eyes at him and sighed annoyingly.‘Why the hell do we all packs waste our money on them? We should have burnt them instead’ I said bitterly. I never liked the idea of having a council, but it wasn’t our decision, it was taken by our great grandfathers, and they thought to have a neutral office, who can act as source of justice, equality between packs, keeping them distant from any war and not letting any pack go in danger.Since then, we all packs are bound to give a certain amount of money to run the operations of council. Well, it was still fine with me, I always thought that I was giving charity on behalf of my pack, b
