‘No, I didn’t’ she swiftly reacted and blurted out.

‘I didn’t kill him; he died because of heart attack’ she said tiredly, tears rolling down on her cheeks. Through our mate bond I could feel her grief and pain, and instantly regretted accusing her, I should have asked her instead about why she is here, it would have been better.

While I was listening her listing down the reasons why I should reject her, Jonathan mind linked me, informing me the reason of her presence, she was summoned by council for poisoning her husband and I didn’t hesitate to ask her, for a moment I believed on council’s accusation but the sorrow I am feeling right now, her emotions passing in me, I am feeling bad for her.

She had crouched down on her knees, silently weeping, maybe missing her died mate, when I, her second chance mate was standing right beside her, but she doesn’t care, she even was trying her best to persuade me to reject her.

My mind wasn’t working right now, as if it had fogged, my emotions were getting mixed.

I might have got angry and reacted very badly, it has happened twice that my fated mate doesn’t want me but her scenario is different and I had to give her exception, but my complain was genuine, why I must be paired with woman who doesn’t want me, or already have someone to whom they have poured all their emotions, love and care and has no room for another person in that portion of love and care.

‘I didn’t kill him, he was my mate, the love of my life.’ She whimpered, I felt a sharp pain in my heart, al though her love for that man was right, he was her mate, fated mate and she has every right to love him, but it is difficult to tolerate when I am her mate now, I was kind of hating myself right now, the mate bond and my male ego was asking for attention, excitement and acceptance but at the same time this mate bond and my heart was pushing me to console her and provide her emotional support despite the fact she was clearly stating that she has no space in her life for me.

Groaning inwardly, I exhaled a deep sigh and rolled my eyes, than ignoring everything, pushing my internal fight on side, I knelt, feeling pity for her. It must have been difficult for her to see her mate dying in front if her and to live without him, managing the pack affairs alone while raising a kid as well. She has gone through a lot in little span of life, she is still young and I can understand why she has been granted a second mate.

Thinking of it, our case is so alike, the difference I think is of accepting the challenge, she seems afraid of taking risks and I am risk lover.

‘I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to blame you, it was shocking news for me too and I reacted spontaneously’ I rested my hand on her shoulder, trying to give her a comfort, she raised her head and I suck my breath, she was beautiful, I gulped. A sudden urge to save her ignited in me, to protect her from evil and bad people.

‘Do you have something to prove your innocence?’ she shook her head sadly.

‘They claim to have medical reports, I might have called the doctor on charge of his treatment, but she has gone on vacation and isn’t available in the pack, besides, I couldn’t reach her as well’ I sighed, it doesn’t fit well, she has been targeted after proper planning, but question is who it might be.

‘What will you do then? You’ve come here just to listen the punishment?’ I couldn’t keep myself calm, she shouldn’t have come here if she hadn’t had anything to prove herself, what was she thinking.

‘I don’t know what I will do, I can’t afford to get punishment, my pack, pack members and specially my son, everyone’s future is at stake’ she murmured, looking in daze. I eyed her, she doesn’t seem to be aware of dealing politics, well, honestly, I am not good either, recalling how Bryan trapped me and made me fall in his trap aches my heart, but now I have a fated mate, and doesn’t need to go for chosen mate. My eyes fell on her intently.

‘What brought you here?’ I was debating on how to start this matter, but luckily, she gave me the reason.

‘I hadn’t found my mate all this time and council was worried that my pack cannot be run without Luna anymore, so I must choose a mate today in front of them’ her eyes fixed on mine.

‘I am sorry, you have to go through this’ she felt pity for me, I smiled, a genuine and broad smile.

‘Don’t feel sorry. Council can’t force me to choose the mate anymore’ her brow knitted.

‘How?’ I pursed my lips, is she really stupid or acting as one.

‘Because, I have found my fated mate’ I put emphasis on every word, my intense gaze puzzled her, she squirms under my gaze, after realizing what I meant by my previous words.

‘But I told you my problems, we cannot be mates, I would never suggest you to accept me and go for this mate bond’ I chuckled, she is cute in her own way, according to her she was trying to save me from getting into mess, when she has no idea that my life will be a mess if I reject her and go for Iris.

‘Thanks for being so considerate, but Savannah, I don’t want to reject you and will suggest you too to not act recklessly or in fear. We are mates and must embrace this sacred relation between us.’

‘But’ I raised my hand to stop her and continued.

‘I understand your responsibility, love with your ex-mate and worries for your son. At the same time, I expect you to understand my situation as well. I need a mate, I don’t want to chose Iris as my mate, but I don’t have any other option, if we reject each other and I am not in favor of this’ I said firmly, I have made up my mind I am not letting her go, for things she is concerned, I can help her get through it.

‘No, this can’t be done. I already have too many things to do and can’t afford to get myself tangled in more’ she refused instantly, I sighed.

‘You don’t have to worry about Luna duties of my pack; I won’t burden you with them’ she stood up, ready to leave.

‘You don’t understand, Albert is already after my pack and wants to become Alpha. If I agree to be your Luna, he will get another reason to use it against me, he has already made my case worse in the council, I have no grounds to stand already, but what you are saying will take away the last hope of surviving from me as well.’ She snapped, I could see the stubbornness in her eyes, she was loyal to her pack, and ex-mate.

‘What do you mean by this? Who is this Albert now?’ I asked confused, why she doesn’t tell me everything once.

‘He is elder of our pack and is after the Alpha position, and I am confident that the accusation of killing Tyler is his doing and I am afraid what else he has gathered against me to use today, accepting you as mate will give him a solid reason to remove me and give him the right to manage the pack.’

Things were complicated from her side; I had to admit.

‘So, it is better for both of us to reject each other, you can go for chosen mate for the sake of your pack, and I will reject you for the sake of mine’
