Melanie's POV

“Definitely crazy,” Selene muttered beside me as she tore her gaze away from him.

I did the same, nudging her shoulder lightly before we headed toward Ethan.

One of the kids tossed a red ball a little too hard, and it rolled across the ground, only to be stopped by a stubborn blade of mowed grass.

I bent down, picked it up, and handed it back to the boy. “Alright, playtime’s over, little warriors. Go home. Come back tomorrow.”

They scattered immediately, like someone pressed a secret button that activated their ‘run’ mode.

Ethan let out a low grumble, looking straight at me, “They were enjoying themselves. Why did you have to send them off?”

“You’re welcome,” I shot back without missing a beat.

He rolled his eyes and rose to his feet, dusting off his pants.But instead of responding to me, his attention shifted past my shoulder, directly toward Selene.
