Chapter Nine

“I got you this.” Ken said, after waking me up from my sleep in his car. We were parked in the yard of his mansion. He handed me a small box and I looked at him with my brows furrowed.

“What’s in it?” I asked him.

“Open it.”

I tilted the box and opened it to reveal a phone. A smartphone. The shiny black object looked like it was worth a fortune.

“Ken. It’s a phone.” I said like he didn’t already know. “It must’ve cost a lot.”

“Not really.” Of course, he would say that. I bet he could buy anything he wanted and not feel a dent in his pocket.

“Thank you. It’s really beautiful.” I switched on the device and admired the different pictures that flashed before settling on one image. The image of a landscape. It looked plain, but the colors caught my attention.

“I saved my number in there. Mom’s and dad’s is in there as well.” He said and I nodded.

I walked into the house still admiring my new gadget when I noticed there were people around the compound.
