After Kurai asked Hoshino to draw him his past, he and Cai Kang left the room leaving her to her work.

"You know, you may not like what you hear." Cai Kang said.

Kurai shrugged. "I heard worse. The worst thing I could hear is that my mom is dead."

"And if she's not?"

Kurai is mentally unsure and his expressions do not escape Cai Kang.

"I don't know." he admits before finding the others.

They are all training in the courtyard. Upon noticing them, they stopped.

"That went on longer than expected." Xianliang said before smirking. "The locals said that you two became quite strong. We saw you fly earlier. What other moves did you get?"

"You really wanna try?"

Xianliang nodded excitedly. Cai Kang then motion him to come forward. Xianliang ran towards him to make the first move but the the ground protrude and grabbed him by the ankles, letting him fall on the ground.

"What the?" he saw his feet are stuck. Effortlessly, he broke through and free

There are lots of kanji and not all of them have their own chinese character equivalent or translation. Also, Kurai is a bit uneducated so it's natural he doesn't know and so do some Japanese people. There is an actual legend I heard as a kid that a ghost of a king had a kid with a commoner woman. I was really grossed out by it. Talismans with red ink are usually written in cinnabar or animal blood usually chickens. No joke. My ancestor wrote many of those when he was still alive. Daren* means sir in chinese.
