1. Haunted house

A grey pick up truck halted metres away from a 10 foot tall rotten old gate. It had cobwebs and all kind of nasty stuff on it as it guarded a one storey tall house behind it.

The house was a perfect example of a haunted house. It had cobwebs literally everywhere. The windows that were shut close. The roof. Everywhere!

Five teenagers were seated inside the truck - three guys and two girls - who were there for one thing. Adventure.

"Okay, guys. We're here." Mark, the guy in the driver seat turned and spoke to the rest sitting in the back seat.

"Alright, let's do this!" His girlfriend, Sadie, sang immediately after.

"Let's go!" Peter, one of the guys sitting in the back seat held the car door beside him and was about to push it open-

"Wait!"

"Ugghh!" They all whined and sank back deep in their seats, "Of course, she must have something to say!" Mark complained frustratingly.

"I'm just worried about us! I have a really bad feeling about this." Nelly, the second girl who had stopped them earlier stated her claim.

He turned to where she sat at the right side of the car, "When have you never ever worried about us? When have you never ever had a bad feeling? About anything?" Demonstrating every word with his hand.

"Dude, chill out." Luke, the third guy and final person, spoke.

"Then talk to your girlfriend, man." He faced the steering wheel afterwards.

Luke faced to his girlfriend, "Nelly, we would be fine. It's just a harmless house. We would be in and out of it before you know it"

"And it sure would be fun." Peter added with a wide grin on his tilted face looking at her from behind Luke.

She still looked wary but nodded still.

"Alright now, let's go?" Mark asked, looking behind from his shoulder.

"Can we... can we go in pairs first?" Nelly still tried to bring up a way for them to be sure it's safe going in there, "I mean, two people can go in first to check and see if it is safe." Her lips formed a thin line after she brought forth those words from her mouth because the look she got from her pairs were just...

"Guys, let's just think about it. It's a great idea." Luke shot up, supporting her.

Of course! He was her boyfriend anyways.

"Fine. Sadie and I would go first. You can stay here with your girlfriend! While we go check if it's safe and when we come back with what you two need to know, we can all go in, right?" Mark asked both of them as a matter-of-fact.

"Yes." Luke answered him nonchalantly.

"Err... is anybody forgetting something? Or someone?" Peter butted in.

"What's that?" Mark looked at him through the rear view mirror.

Sadie had opened the front passenger's door where she sat and was outside now.

"You guys really forgot about me?!" He shot up playfully, somewhat surprised.

Mark and Luke paused and looked at him.

"Oh, you stay with them." Mark shooed him, waving his hand very close to his face before opening the door and alighting from the car to go join his girlfriend who was now standing in front of the gate and backing the car.

"You really forgot about me!" He was now fully surprised.

Mark slightly turned while still walking and placed his fore finger on his lips telling him to keep quiet.

Peter scoffed and pouted at his gesture.

How could they forget him?

Mark had reached Sadie as the car was parked farther away from the gate.

They had been planning this for a long long while. They all wanted to go on an adventure that no one had ever embarked on - well, since they were born - and live to tell the story. Of course.

Mark was the master behind the idea and his friends had agreed, well except Nelly who always brought up reasons why it was a dangerous mission. She was always the 'too careful' and 'always worried' kind. Never living the moment.

"Hey, babe." He nudged her side playfully and smiled as he stood side by side with her, looking at the massive gate and the dark house standing tall behind it.

She returned his smile, turning slightly towards him, "Shall we?" Her right hand was stretched forward towards the premises.

The corner of his lips rose in a sinister smile as one of his brows stood higher than the other whilst his nod.

They each held one side of the gate, "On the count of three." Mark faced her and she nodded.

"One, two..."

"Three!" They pushed at the same time.

The gate made a creaky sound as it opened a little. Big enough for a person to pass through it.

"Damn, that is one gate!" Mark looked up the full length of the gate and Sadie looked down at her hands.

"Eww!" She frowned deeply, still looking at her hands that were now covered in dust, goo and- Goo?

"Ew, ew, ew!!! How did goo get on the gate?!" She started to panic, waving and shaking her hands, anything that could get the stinky goo off her hands.

Mark had looked over at her and went closer the moment he had seen her panicking.

"Hey, calm down. What's wrong?" He spoke in low tones trying his best to pacify her and not make too much noise.

"There's goo on my hands!" She showed him her hands.

"Well, that's just-" He was cut shut by her sudden move. She draped her hands on his shirt and went all the way down till all the goo on her hands were left on his shirt.

"Oh, that worked." She 'hmph'ed, satisfied with her now clean hands.

"When will you guys get pass the gate and then get into the house?" Peter, who was now standing on the edge of the open truck's door with his right hand holding onto the truck's rooftop to stay steady.

"Or is there traffic on the way?" He rose his fingers above his eyes and squinted like he was trying to spot anything stopping them from going inside.

"Or are you guys now afraid?-"

"Just shut up! Okay? We going now. We just had a situation." Mark, whose lower lip had been hanging low in shock of his girlfriend's earlier action had no other choice but to face the blabbermouth and shut him up before he talks his way into him.

"Oh, you mean a make out sith, ay?" His white set of teeth shone in the dark all the way from his stance inside-out of the car.

Mark, who had started to make his way with Sadie through the gate, paused and turned towards the blabbermouth only to see the door shutting hard like some certain someone just ran in, scared of something... or someone.

He chuckled and turned, moving forward and draped his hands on his shirt too. What's gone is gone.

Sadie on the other hand had entered through the gate. Her body felt... okay!

She turned back a little with her thumbs up to show she was okay. Everything felt okay.

Soon enough, Mark joined her as they both turned on their flashlights and walked slowly and steadily towards the house.

From where they were, they could see the windows were covered in... cobwebs. Lots and lots of cobwebs. Sticky mud and dust.

As they approached the porch, they both noticed that the massive front door was sparkling clean.

They climbed up the three steps before walking on the porch and going closer to the door.

They flashed their lights on it. It was a normal dark coloured door with a very fine polishing. It looked new. Like it was just made today.

Weird. This house was supposed to be ages old and rumoured to be a death's home or better said, a trap one gets lost in, so no one came close to it talk less of changing the door. How and why does it look so clean?

Silence reigned as they both took a good measure of time to search and observe the door like they were expecting it to open up itself.

After seeing nothing strange aside for the fancy doorknob, they glanced at each other and again with no words spoken, Mark held the doorknob and turned it.
