AVA'S POINT OF VIEW

I was currently on my way to work.

I flagged down a taxi and got in.

It's my first day at work so I want to make a good first impression.

Although I've been in New York city for about a week now, I've not resumed work fully.

Today's the D-Day.

The day I become a fully independent young woman.

My phone rang loudly, jolting me from my thoughts. I brought my phone out from my pocket and it's no other person than my mother.

"Hello." I said as I picked up the call.

"Ava, are you sure you want to work there?" My mother asked as soon as the call went through.

She has been trying to convince me to come back home.

Despite the fact that she and my father had given me their full approval on coming here to New York city to work, they've not stopped trying to convince me to come back home.

And I've only been here for a week.

I guess that's the burden that comes with being an only child.

Don't get me wrong, I love being an only child but sometimes I wonder what it would be like to have siblings.

Perhaps my parents wouldn't be too focused on me like they are right now.

"Ava." My mother called my name softly, jolting out of my reverie.

"Mother, I'm fine, I love New York." I answered.

"Isn't it cold?" She said in concern.

"I heard it's cold." She said.

"It is but that's how it is everywhere." I tried to make her understand.

"LA is cold too." I tried to argue but I could hear someone snorting in the background.

I didn't need a soothsayer to tell me who it was.

My dad and mom are always together so I knew it was my dad who snorted.

"Ava." He called my name and I sighed heavily.

Here goes the lecture.

"Be a good girl." He began his speech.

"Call us if you need anything."

"We're your parents and you're our only child, if you ever get tired of working there or you want to come home, just call us, we're ready to take care of your needs."

I mimicked every single word my dad said.

Thankfully, I didn't say it out loud.

But he has said these countless times that they now live rent free in my head.

"We're here." The taxi driver said as we stopped in front of a majestic building.

"Thanks." I said as I paid for the fare and got off.

"Mom, dad, I'll be fine." I told them

"I'm not a child anymore, I'm in my twenties." I reminded them.

"Alright alright." They chorused.

"Love you." I said and i hung up.

I stood in front of the big building and sighed heavily.

I was nervous but excited.

And since today's my first day, I dressed the part too.

I entered into the building and went ahead to find my office.

It's time for a new chapter of my life.

Few hours passed and it was time for lunch break.

As I was about to go downstairs to the cafeteria,my intercom rang.

I sighed heavily and picked it up.

It's my first day, I hope I'm not going to work during my lunch break.

However, it wasn't what I was expecting.

"Am I connected to Miss Bennett's office?"

"Yes, you are." I answered.

"There's a man outside asking to see you." The receptionist said.

"A man?" I asked in confusion.

"Yeah." She said.

"His name?" I asked.

"Sean Frazer." She answered.

"Alright, I'll be down in a minute." I said immersion.

I was stunned by what I just heard.

Was it truly Sean Frazer?

The Sean Frazer?

The very man whom I've been in love with for the past few years of my life.

And right now, I'm going to face him?

Oh my goodness.

I sprinted out of my office and took the elevator downstairs.

As I stepped out of the elevator, I could see his tall figure standing there back facing me.

I tried to calm my beating heart as I walked towards him.

I even tried to hide the red hue that was starting to form on my cheeks.

I walked towards him slowly and as if on cue, he turned to face me.

The moment he saw me, he smiled at me, showing all his dentitions.

And in that moment, I forgot how to breath.

This was a man whom I've been in love with since the early days of my childhood.

Even though he is my father's best friend and twice my age, I've never stopped loving him.

Although I try to keep it on the low and I mostly tell myself that it's a little girl crush.

It's a fleeting feeling and it would go soon enough.

"Ava, is that you?" He spoke to me and his voice sounded like a sweet melody, making my kneels buckle.

My breath hitched and i could barely find the words to say.

"Oh my goodness, you're so big now." He said to me as he continued to smile at me.

We were standing right in front of each other and I fought so hard to hide my blush.

However, everything came crashing down when I heard a voice call his name.

"Sean honey, you asked me to wait in the car for you." A woman said as she walked towards us.

I turned to face the direction of the voice and a sigh escaped my lips.

Here's why I can't love Sean.

He's happily married to someone else.
