Chapter 2

Mila was used to pain, but none of all she had passed through could be compared to the one that froze her heart at the moment. Just yesterday, they told her about her replacement as Anya, and today, she has to meet the guy. She was going on a date with a guy she hardly knew.

How can they make her marry a stranger? Someone she never saw or heard about.

Within a blink of an eye, after she was told about her sudden marriage, they gave her a big and well-furnished room in the house, next to Anya’s room.

In the morning she woke up at 5 AM, and wanted to do house chores, but Anita didn’t allow her and, for the first time, she let her sleep till she wanted.

Mila still couldn’t let her head think straight. She was trying to think everything was a prank, not until Anita came in with six shopping bags. Three for clothes, two for heels and one for undies. For fashion, Anita’s taste was great, and all the dresses were gorgeous. And merely looking at the clothes and how they packed them, she could easily tell they were expensive.

“Try them on and let me see how it will look on you.” Anita smiled at Mila. This was the second time in a day she was nice to her, and that was what scared her the most.

‘Maybe she is planning an evil. She is using a trick to lie against me. I stole the clothes.’ Her heart paved the way to different thoughts, and her heart beat faster at its highest rate. If her thoughts were right and Anita’s plan succeeded, her uncle would beat her mercilessly. It wouldn’t be the first time he beat her, but she guessed she might lose her life if he heard she had stolen something.

She looked at Anita, confusedly. She thought everything was still a dream and someone would pinch her before it was too late.

Anita walked closer to her and patted her back. “It’s fine Mila,” she understood how she was feeling. “I am sorry for how we have been behaving to you before now. We have always treated you badly, like you mean nothing,”

She let the crocodile’s tears out of her eyes and wiped them. “And on behalf of your uncle and me, we promised to change for good. We will act like your parents and stand by your side, so you will live a peaceful life and achieve your dream.”

For that minute, Mila forgot all the pain Anita had caused her. It was the first time she had heard such a cute line in five years. She hugged Anita and let tears rush out of her eyes. “Thank you. Moth…”

Anita wrapped her hands around Mila’s body, welcoming. “You want to call me mother, right?”

Mila shook her head. “Yes.”

“It’s fine. You can call me. I am your mother.” Anita agreed, and Mila hugged her more deeply and affectionately.

Anita separated her body from Mila and walked her to the bed. She sat down and Mila sat beside her. “Mila, since we have realized our mistake, that’s why we have found you a good husband that will chase away the pains in your heart,”

“Accept him happily. He belongs to Anya, but we are giving him to you, because you are also precious and deserve something good.” Anita sugar mouthed.

“Anya can have him. I will find another better man.” She declined.

Anita’s eyes turned angrily red because Mila was disobeying her. If not for what happened, she would have given her a hot slap that would make her blind for minutes. Rather, she hugged her. “Mila, you can’t find any better man than Dimitri,”

“Dress up, he will be here in a jiffy.”

“Who?” Mila set her gaze on Anita.

“Maybe Dimitri or his driver.” Anita smiled, comforting her. “Don’t be nervous. Everything will be fine.”

“Okay ma.” Mila nodded.

Anita walked out, and Mila went into the bathroom to have a hot shower. It was the first time she would do that. No matter how cold the weather was, she used cold water.

Marrying Dimitri was something she didn’t want to do, because she eavesdropped on every conversation between his uncle, wife, and Anya. They were plotting her grave while she was alive, but she gave herself hope.

“Maybe this will be my chance to survive…”

She spent thirty minutes in the shower till she slept off.

“Mila!” Anya looked around. She opened the bathroom door and saw her sleeping in the shower. She grinned her teeth in anger, and forgetting things had changed, she wanted to slap her.

“What are you doing?” Anita’s voice stopped her from behind. “Have you forgotten the plan?”

Anya laughed lightly and tapped Mila. “You are running late.”

Mila stood up and wrapped a towel around her body. She went into the room and dressed up in an elegant long white gown that was sweeping the floor.

Anita helped with choosing the golden high heels and Anya did a great job with the makeup she did for her. She layered her neck and hands with a thick powder that didn’t let the scar on them show.

“Now, you are good to go.” Anya smiled.

Mila wanted to stand up, and Anita kneeled down in front of her. “Please, Mila dear, behave yourself there. Act like someone that is trained with money. I know you are bound by poverty, but please mind yourself.” She disgraced her with her words. She was trying to plead with her, but she was used to stoning abusive words, and she couldn’t help.

“Okay ma.” Mila nodded. She stood up and Anya helped her out.

“Byeeeee.” They waved hands at her till she entered the car that Dimitri sent over and the car zoomed off.

“Mum, won’t we regret this?” Anya sought an answer in a low voice. She wasn’t happy that she was losing the guy of her dreams, but her mother had got a bigger fish.

“You will not regret it, Mila will be the one to suffer in your place.” Anita wore an encouraging smile.

“What if she doesn't suffer?”
